Don't mean to dispute BUT my doctor told me under NO circumstances was I to drive or lift objects such as tins off a shelf (!) for six weeks (and I felt absolutely fine in myself) and I phoned my Car insurance company and they said that I wasn't covered in the event of any accident because of my doctor's advice.

Everyone heals differently but most likely you won't be ready to drive until 4-6 weeks after, although I think not picking up a tin is a bit harsh as you'll be picking up your baby which will weigh much more! my granddad had surgery on his knee recently and just to cover himself when he felt ready to drive he got his physio to write in his notes that they had done some "tests" (checked that he could do an emergency stop etc) and that he was now able to drive so if anything did happen he would be able to show that his notes said he was fine to drive.
    Good luck with section x

Well the actual hospital discharged me and walked me to my car with DD1 , mad isn't it how 1 person can do 1 thing and another told they can't . Just rung my insurance company (RAC) and they said it's ok for me to drive if I have a section this time , which is handy as my school & nursery run is 130 miles a day ! That would take me forever to walk that one :rotfl:
Baby Thomas born 3 months early by emergency section on 21/1/09 weighing 1lb 15ozs .
Thomas came home after 3 months and 2 days in hospital weighing 5lb 15ozs
    Thomas weighed 21lb 4ozs on his 1st birthday , a total weight gain of 18lbs 5ozs !

I know, this was over six years ago but it does make you wonder ... but my doctor was adamant. Had to walk everywhere, lost loads of weight though ...

Well if I walked my 130 miles a day I would be stick thin by the end of the 1st week :p . That is a good thing though walking , helps you tone up and loose weight . Just I am so lazy I have to drive everywhere , can't bear even walking to the corner shop 500 yards away from my house !

I guess it also depends on the individual... some people might for whatever reason have an "easier" c section? less prone to complications?
Or the doctors might just simply have had bad experiences with other patients and are covering themselves in case! Can't say I blame them!
Just remember if your doctor has said you can't drive then you will not be insured! It's not x weeks before you are covered again - it's if the doc says you're NOT allowed to drive then until they say you are good to drive again you shouldn't as your insurance company will more than likely in the event of an accident use it to avoid paying...

As for walking... get a dog! :rotfl: you HAVE to walk then ;) think that's why I have less sniffles these days - loads of fresh air. Now when I'm poorly I'm VERY poorly :rotfl:

Yes, I have just remembered that i had to go back to the Doctors for her to confirm after six weeks that all had healed and i was able to drive ... again this probably depends very much on individual practices

I flew at 6 weeks pregnant with my docs blessing - he just told me to walk about alot to prevent blood clotting! I was scared but he assured me that there would be no problem.
Our dream has come true... :D

hope everyone is well! just had a visit from the midwife to give me my notes and also go through the homebirth, i think everything was covered but it all seems crazy still lol!! has anyone else opted for or had a homebirth? is there anything i need to have or you would reccommend?? also which room are you having/had the baby in??? that was the only thing i never thought about lol!!

my new midwife is lovely and seemed really enthusiastic about the birth, which i never had with last midwife?? she even talked about sweeps and reflexology to start labour off from 38weeks lol!(as usually my girls like to stay put until im induced!)

am only 20 weeks tom but would like everything clear and organised, sorry bout the long post just have so much going around in my head?? well thats me away to finish painting the dining room!
What's for you won't go past you
