  • I can't remember , sorry . I have my nuchal scan on the 6th Oct, Monday week . I will be 12 weeks exactly and I can't find the letter that came for the scan that had leaflets in it  Just hope my 8 yr old doesn't find it before the scan !
Baby Thomas born 3 months early by emergency section on 21/1/09 weighing 1lb 15ozs .
Thomas came home after 3 months and 2 days in hospital weighing 5lb 15ozs
    Thomas weighed 21lb 4ozs on his 1st birthday , a total weight gain of 18lbs 5ozs !
  • Thank God , I have found them . Just read the leaflets and is says to ask at the scan and when you have your bloods taken as to when you will get the results . I think that the blood results are sent to your midwife though .

Thanks Natalie that helps alot. None of this has been explained to me by my midwife and I do not see her again until 16 weeks. Will the blood test results come through the post do you think? I have been so excited to get to 12 weeks now I feel really nervous about having this scan all of a sudden.

I went private for the nuchal scan and had the blood test about a week before the actual scan, so they gave me the overall risk result there and then (at the time of the scan). If you're having the blood test at the same time as the scan, they might wait to see both results before giving you the overall risk. At the clinic I went to, the results of the scan and blood test both had to be taken into account before they would give you a risk result.

    Hope that makes sense!

Skinty - I am pretty sure that they can't hear the heartbeat until around 16 weeks anyway (some say 12 weeks to hear it but my MW said you can't always find it so early.

My DD2 borrowed a Doppler when she was pregnant last year and I recorded the heartbeat on my phone , so i've just been looking to see what date it was. It was 28/09/2007 so i've worked it out on a pregnancy calendar that she was about 10 weeks pregnant. It was a good strong heartbeat!
Same old same old since 2008

  • I was going to buy a doppler but my midwife said to me not to bother , we don't know what we are looking for and sometimes she said you can hear your baby in distress but be unaware of it etc . She said they are more harm then good .

Hi Guys just came across this and thought it could be helpful
    http://www.babycentre.co.uk/pregnancy/isitsafeto/herb&drugchart/
It reminded me of when I was pg with DS and had been constantly sniffing olbas oil for about 2 weeks before I found out it had juniper in it and could cause m/c
The very best is sometimes what nature gives us for free.

   DD told my great Aunt she's pregnant today, and got a very negative response including who's is it etc.She was with her bf for years and they had planned the baby, now the cantankerous old bat is judging her, and asking her what about her career:mad:
She never had kids herself, and has always been really negative and judgemental about single parents, silly old bag:rolleyes:
SARAH good luck hun, hope you sprog very soon:)
Ahh some people are never happy.
My babys father's mum has told him she wants nothing to do with our baby when it's born
Flukcing looser, it's her loss, the thing is they always go on about 'family' then she acts like a spoilt little biatch.
We didnt concieve in the best circumstances but at the end of the day, the baby hasnt asked to be born has it?
Most of my family cant stand Dan, but not one of them has acted negatively to the baby and they wouldnt.

I think i might be crazy after you relpys about long haul flights, but i have planned (booked in march this year) to go home to New Zealand for one month and on the return flight will be 30 weeks:eek:

I really want go as havent been home for 4 years, I have checked with both the airline and my insurance co and both hve said up to 32 weeks.
    not sure what to do:confused:
if i dont go i think we will lose the £2k for the flights, or does anyone think the insurance compny will take into consideration a claim that says couldnt go as preggers? I could try and get a letter from doc to say unfit to fly, but i really want to go!!!! maybe a good excuse for an upgrade??
    any further opinions?? please???

ps flight is 27 hours with 1 stops

Only you can make the decision , they both say they are happy up to 32 weeks and you will only be 30 weeks when coming home . Ask your midwife what she thinks . One of the other ladies said about just walking lots so ask for an aisle seat as well if you go . Don't those kind of flights have beds on them ?

I had my scan at 12 weeks, blood tests at 16 and the results came in the post about 2 weeks after that. They didnt actually give a percentage or anything like that. It just said low risk although at my last midwife appointment at 30weeks she put the actual results in my folder so maybe I should have had them all along!
