  • Shopaholic - firstly I am sorry because I have no idea how far along you are in relation to me :o but I am 17+4 today.

I broke down today and called my midwife...the pain was getting really bad again and I had to stand up halfway through a meeting because I couldn't stand it anymore. Made me feel like I was playing the pregnancy card (just me and 12 men in this meeting!!) which is not me at all.

Bascially the midwife said that it is unlikely to be pregnancy related (as in a pregnancy complication) but that all of the bones and stuff down there are softening up so it could be caused by the pregnancy IYSWIM. MW suggested taking paracetamol if the pain gets too bad (but you don't want to keep doing that do you) and getting a gym ball to sit on to improve my posture. Apparently Tesco direct are doing gym balls for about £10 so I am going to give it a try. Finally MW said if it carries on then I should go and see the doctor.

MW was lovely, despite my reservations. Not too sure about sitting on a gym ball at work! But if it relieves the pain then I may look into one of those kneeling chairs or something...

Oh bless you, that sounds much worse than I been getting, I hope you feel better soon.
I will still def mention it to the midwife, it did start around the same time as my back ache and I'm 26 +4 weeks now and really huge so i just put it down to the weight of the pregnancy!
I'll give the gym ball a try though, I already have one so at least I can show OH I am gettin some use from it and it wasn't another useless purchase! :T:T

Technically there isn't anything stopping you... but you really really have to check with the individual airlines and find out their policy. Some might require you to have a medical certificate no less than 24 hours old from hospital saying that you are fit to fly. Most airlines with this will let you travel up to 35 weeks.
My personal concern is that you are on a flight for 8+ hours! That means you have GOT to get up and move around very very very often! I would also speak to your local maternity ward and ask for some of their sexy stockings... these are horrid white things which have a hole under the ball of your feet (don't ask me why I haven't a clue) but they are used if you are bedridden for a while to help prevent bloodclots (can you tell who was stuck in bed for a while this week in hospital  ) although they still encourage you to move around if you can.
You will have an increased risk of bloodclots because you are pregnant AND you are flying AND it's a longhaul flight then followed by a shorter flight.

My personal view is that at that point in time I wouldn't embark on a long haul flight, there is a good reason for why airlines ground their flight attendants the second they find out they are pregnant! Short haul I might be willing to do but not long haul... but that is a personal choice :)
I just wouldn't be prepared to risk the bloodclots or anything happening to Bean :)

  • I have my 12 weeks scan on Thursday which I am really looking forward to. I will be 12 + 4 and am also having the Nuchal Fold Scan combined with the blood tests. Has anyone had these tests and know how long you normally wait for the results?

    Hi all

Just thought I would let you know that Bio Oil is currently on 3 for 2 in Boots. The smallest size (60ml I think) is £8.99. If you don't want to buy three (and at 37 weeks pregnant I didn't!) Savers has the same size for £6.99.

I've used it since I found out I was pregnant and no stretch marks yet (touch wood!).
    Go your own way..

  • I am still here, the bump is still here, and my Mum, who came up LAST MONDAY to help with the baby, is still here. When i said to her 'what are you going to do cos they will not induce til 9th Oct, what if the baby ios that late?' she said 'well whet do you want me to do' .She has a job !!!!!!. If that happens and she stauys to 'help with the baby' she will have been here 5 weeks  and the 'helping out' is a matter of debate  I didnt say what i feel like which is 'go home please you are stressing the kids and me, and come back when there actually IS a baby' i said 'i don't know'
What a wimp i feel like!
Flying - i flew to new York when i was 22 wks pg with DD and i just walked around as much as poss. Then again I would not have gone were it not for the fact that I had won the holiday! if you 'have' to fly then keep mobile and dring plenty. Also in the USA they didn't make me walk thru the metal detector thingies cos they said they must not put pg women through cos theres a risk to the baby. Here in the UK they dont give a monkey's!

SEVERAL people phoned/texted/stopped me in the street to enquire re babysaver's imminent arrival. GRRR and someone texted OH this morning. I really feel like hiding in a cave and giving birth on my own and not telling anyone. Why do FRIENDS and FAMILY think I would NOT tell them

They will tell you your results of the scan there and then , they normally give you 2 sets of figures , for example , 1st set just based on your age 1 in 50 then 2nd set is the adjusted results which then combine the results of the scan , say 1 in 500 . Then within the week you should get the 3rd and final figure which is based on the 2 above and the results of the blood test , this figure being the actual final result , say 1 in 1000 .
So say those figures are true and based on me my final scan & blood result would be I have a 1 in 1000 chance of a Down's baby . Hope this makes sense
Baby Thomas born 3 months early by emergency section on 21/1/09 weighing 1lb 15ozs .
Thomas came home after 3 months and 2 days in hospital weighing 5lb 15ozs
    Thomas weighed 21lb 4ozs on his 1st birthday , a total weight gain of 18lbs 5ozs !

That's a good offer ! I am lucky that I don't get stretch marks but do use it for a tiny scar on my daughters face .

  • Thanks Natalie that helps alot. None of this has been explained to me by my midwife and I do not see her again until 16 weeks. Will the blood test results come through the post do you think? I have been so excited to get to 12 weeks now I feel really nervous about having this scan all of a sudden.
