parent craft and antenatal are the same thing here?

I found them to be really usefull :-)

Not sure if here: Parent craft is how to look after your baby and Antenatal covers the pregnancy/birth/feeding and stuff.

Lucifa i was in 9 days:mad: after my first..... so opted for home birth 2nd time, things could not have been better, will also have homebirth with this one.....

    Bargainbird

What happened first time to keep you in 9 days??

Also I am trying to find out as much about home-birth as possible as I am really considering this I am on baby number 3, and although the last two weren't exactly textbook, the midwife has said I am low risk and can have home-birth if I want to.

Dh is a bit unsure, although not completely against it and says he will support whatever I decide. I was wondering what equipment the midwife brings with them to ensure a safe delivery? How far in advance did you have to book it?

My 16wk appointment is next week so I will ask for more info then but is only a short app so don't want to take up too much of her time.

hi ladies hope all is well and all these bumps are behavin!!

I have opted for a home birth this time, booked it at booking in app but think as long as its early on then you wont have a problem! i have app on mon to talk to midwife+checkup and then have 2nd scan on thurs. am really looking forward to it and really hope i can find out the sex so i can buy pink or wash and iron all the blue things i already have lol!

This is baby no 5 and i only went to the parents class with 1st baby, to be honest there are so many different senarios (think i have had them all lol) that i didnt think they helped. As for the bathing feeding etc i was told they could not discharge me unless they went through it all with each baby? think i would be worried if by this time i didnt know what i was doing?? either that or they seen what OH dressed DD1 in on birth of DS1 - a summer dress with a tshirt type vest, wooly tights, pair of wellies and a coat that was 2 sizes too big. i was mortified but they all laughed!

sorry to go on lol! the bump i dont have a bump as such but have put weight on all around look like i have piled it on? thats me 18 weeks now. does that mean a girl in old wives tales? xx
What's for you won't go past you
  • I'm a 2nd tmer and I have said no to parentcraft but I might do the antenatal classes (last time round they were just a few half hour sessions with a midwife) simply because its an opportunity to meet other people expecting at the same time in my area, if you know what I mean.

Same here! I asked the MW at my last appointment in case things have changed in the last 4 years ie is the labour ward still in the same place?! She said she could arrange for me to attend a parentcraft but last time round ours was only a 1 day session so didn't really get much out of it other than looking round labour wards, theatres etc. Decided we'd not worry this time round.

I too found the antenatal classes much more useful, it was run by the health visitor, we had different topics each week eg weaning, sleep patterns/routines etc etc. Also had the opportunity to get baby weighed. The best thing was meeting other mums in the same boat, comparing notes and supporting each other through teething etc!

Good luck on wednesday Keely, look forward to hearing from you once you're a mummy - how exciting! I wore an old nightshirt in labour which un-buttoned down the front so I could undo a few to feed/hold baby close once delivered.

PS Its been interesting reading all the comments/advice re breast feeding so thanks to all! I only managed 16 days last time before getting mastitis and no support whatsoever from docs, HV or breast feeding councillor - got it on a Friday and it seemed that no one worked that day! Have a different MW this time who seems much more positive about things so going to ask for local contacts for groups etc as still willing to try this time round! I'm also not so sure about BF in public but we'll see! I'm more worried about DD and whether she will put up with me spending so much time feeding bubba. Anyone who's done it 2nd time round and can offer any advice? She'll be almost 4 so will sit and listen to stories whilst I'm bf but not sure how long she'll sit still for before getting bored!?

Sorry another mega post for me - just be thankful you don't work in the same office as me, I must drive peeps at work mad! They'll be counting down the next 4 weeks til I go off on maternity leave! Hope everyone else is well x

  • Couple of pregnancy things... My nipples were burning all through church yesterday... No idea why! And morning sickness started good and proper this morning... Thought I might of gotten away with it, was only feeling a little bloaty after meals but have felt so rotten all day today... it's completely taken me back to when I had DD.... Not looking forward to the next couple of months! Have my iced water and snack a jacks close at hand....
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

  • Wow, thanks for that Krystaltips, your advice on breastfeeding is very encouraging! You clarified some of the 'myths' I have about breastfeeding. I think it would be good for me to go to one of the breastfeeding groups before I give birth just to get some support. I don't have any family here (all overseas) and no friends with children so I don't have anyone to really help me out. (Eeek!)
    Thanks so much!

How long have people stayed in hospital before after a normal birth? We had a tour of the labour wards yesterday and before I went I was kinda thinking I really didnt want to stay overnight if I dont have to and now after seeing it I really dont want to. I know I could feel different at the time but Im really not wanting to share a room with other people. Theres 4 beds in one room and the nurses said you need to keep the curtains open at night so they can come in and check on you. I know im probably just being stupid but I can barely sleep when sharing a room with a friend, never mind 3 people I dont even know. Hubby would be happier if I stayed at least one night but we shall need to see about that!

Em, I stayed in for 2 nights after an emergency forceps birth. Poppy was born at 7:47pm so by the time everything was over and we had been left to bond, I wasn't taken to my room until 11ish. I was extremely lucky to be given my own room (think Travel Lodge style!) which I am eternally grateful for. Apparently as I had intervention I should have been on a ward but my MW said I was doing fantastically well  and didn't require constant supervision.

Partners were allowed to visit between 8am and 8pm and visitors for an hour in the afternoon and an hour in the evening. This was perfect for me as the visiting was controlled and they had to leave at certain times. I was shown how to feed Poppy and how to bathe her plus lots of other things happened too such as a paediatrition checked her over and she had a hearing test. Oh, and the Bounty photographer arrived and the Bounty lady with all the goody bags!. I then stayed over that night and was discharged the next day.
