It's quiet on here this morning...which is typical because I have baby brain and can't concentrate at work

SB - I reckon I must have a girl if they fry your brain the most - I have been awful!

I don't get weekly emails from mothercare but I do love my babycentre ones (as does my hubby) last week it told me that baby would react to light if I shone a torch on my belly. I told DSS about this at the weekend and he proceeded to 'tease' the baby shining a torch on different parts of my belly and laughing his head off for about half an hour :rotfl:

I have told him that baby will get it's own back soon enough when he won't leave big brother alone for a second!!

AF - my sleeping has been disturbed for ages now, I am just about getting used to it.

Keely - we will be thinking of you. I am looking forward to your report on how wonderful they are at new cross!!

Edited to ask - are the january sales any good for getting the big baby items? (buggy, cot etc)

The pampers emails are good too :o

Midwife's been, bp is still behaving so very pleased about that. She seems to think things may well be happening by themselves, but will def be in hospital wednesday so baby will def be here by the weekend either way.

Im just making a cuppa and going to nibble on a bit of choccy (naughty i know).

How long have people stayed in hospital before after a normal birth? We had a tour of the labour wards yesterday and before I went I was kinda thinking I really didnt want to stay overnight if I dont have to and now after seeing it I really dont want to. I know I could feel different at the time but Im really not wanting to share a room with other people. Theres 4 beds in one room and the nurses said you need to keep the curtains open at night so they can come in and check on you. I know im probably just being stupid but I can barely sleep when sharing a room with a friend, never mind 3 people I dont even know. Hubby would be happier if I stayed at least one night but we shall need to see about that!

Also on the breastfeeding thing. I do plan to do it but really dont want to do it in public ( can you guess Im quite a private person lol ) I dont even want to do it in front of people in my own house. My mums going to be coming to stay for a couple of weeks and I was planning on going to the bedroom to feed. I know its totally natural but to me I dont think I would be comfortable doing it in front of people, especially the inlaws!

I want to know if anyone here has experience of raspberry leaf tea, DOES it work? I am fed up and I am sure I have had a 'show' and the baby has dropped right down, tried s*x, XXX hot sauce in Nandos and so on.

Sarah I'm afraid from what I understand raspberry leaf tea won't help you get labour going, it's meant to tone your uterus to help make contractions more effective once you are in labour.

    Hope things get moving soon.

At my hospital I was told that assuming everything is ok with both you and the baby and it's a vaginal birth then they discharge you after about 6 hours, so potentially you wouldn't need to be in overnight at all.

  • MrsTine - I read somewhere (need to stop reading or start remembering WHERE I actually pick this information up from) that Apple Juice has practically no nutritional value compared to other fruit juices. That's not to say that we can't drink it or that we shouldn't but it is better to drink other juices if you are looking to 'up your good stuff' so to speak!

I went off apple juice after that  (not that I am generally worried about eating good stuff - has been a big downfall of mine!) I am also a bit miffed that practically every smoothie has banana in it - I hate banana and you can really taste it, no matter how many other fruits are included

I know but they just don't taste the same warm/hot :) Warm orange juice?? Eurgh!
Although interestingly Appletiser and their many variants all count as one of your 5 a day :) I don't think normal applejuice does though, not sure why...

How soon did you guys show bumps with your first?

Er, about 28 ish weeks, sorry. But then I am a magic baby hiding person and kind of squidgy anyway which I think can affect things. Having said that Himself would disagree completely and reckons I had a baby bump loooooong before then but it's only in the last week or so people have been brave enough to ask when I'm due! But then I am enormous now!

Eeeek, good luck Keely! I wonder if I'll have mine before yours goes to school? *beam*

Sarahsaver, I've know people who swear that raspberry leaf tea helps make labour quicker but it made me feel sick so I really can't bring myself to drink it!

Emms, our hospital has a six hour policy as well, I think sometimes they'll keep you overnight if it'll benefit you both. My friend did say as well that you won't sleep that first night wherever you are as you'll up be every five minutes staring at/checking on the baby so you might as well be somewhere that there's trained professionals as at home staring at the baby! That kind fo convinced me that wherever I have to spend the first night will be fine (I'd rather be at home as well!) :-)

  • ohhhh...keelykat - so excited for you. amazing that you will have your bundle of joy by the weekend!

mrstine - i too do not have a bump yet, but am 14+3 today. thinking i will start showing soon. did have a bit of a belly anyway so think bubs is hiding behind that at the moment.

MFD - sooo know what you mean about not being able to focus on work. i am the same at the moment, but worse today due to lack of sleep last night!!!! urgent workload doesn't help though!!!!

off for lunch today (although can't say i feel like eating much) with my friend and her bubs.
