Maybe, although not sure how he will survive being 4 hours without a playstation!!!

Debating suggesting to OH that he gives me the cash and I go on my own while he looks after the kids :rotfl: Not worth the look it would get from him, let alone the rest of the conversation :p

    Hi all

    First post on this board.

Just started trying to get a DMP in place with CCCS.

Have let creditors know and sent in token payments. Trying to arrange a new bank account at the moment and escape Barclays and then CCCS will get in touch with my creditors.

Been also claiming back my bank charges from Barclays and have had a pretty good offer. Thinking of not holding out for more as have a loan and overdrawn current account with Barclays and don't want to rock the boat as will need them to accept DMP offer.

Quick question...I have arrears on the loan. Will the bank charge refund be used for that by Barclays, or will they pay it back into my current account?

CCCS seem very helpful, and after keeping my head in the sand for too long feel I am finally doing something rather than getting more and more into debt.

For various reasons, I have had to keep this all quiet from my partner and family so finding this board is grand!

    Hi PompeyMark

Well done on posting and sorting out your debts. I also have a DMP with CCCS and they are brilliant.

I reclaimed bank charges from Barclays and they credited into my current a/c and didn't use it to pay off arrears on loan a/c.

Keep us informed of your progress.

    Hi everyone,

Sorry haven't been on for a while, as some of you know I was trying to cure my addiction to the forum by going cold turkey.

Anyway felt I needed write in today after receiving a Default notice from Alliance and Leicester. Thought it was a bit odd because I have two loans with them and the default notice was only for one. Called them up and enquired about this. Was told that although there was an arrangement in place, they can still issue a default notice, and next step would be a charge order on my property!! For those who don't know, my hubby is clueless about my DMP and as long as I can afford the repayments to Payplan, this is the way I want it to stay. You can imagine how heartbroken I was - my house is in joint names and there is no way I could keep up the secret if this went to court.

Anyway, I rang Payplan to see if they could do something, anything, about it. The lady I spoke to, although nice, wasn't very reassuring. She told me that this would be seen as preferential treatment, at which point I asked what was the point of Payplan if they couldn't negotiate on your behalf. She was very reluctant to call them, and she said that if they had made up their mind to pursue a charge order there was very little she could say or do to make them change their minds. Her fatalism turned out to be a blessing in disguise as I decided that I would be able to fight my battle better than she could and I decided to call again, this time asking for a lovely lady that had dealt with my A&L loans at the start of my DMP.

What a difference this made! This time, there was no "Mrs Lonely do you realise you owe us over £9K", no curt answers, no nasty undertones - just a lovely old lady on the end of the phone that listened to me, bothered to actually look into my account details and notice that whilst one of my loans had been put on an arrangement for 6 months, the other had only lasted for a month. She duly rectified this and told me to call again in 6 months time to renew the plan.

Now I can't speak for everyone but I really believe that with DMPs persistance is key. It has worked for me everytime. When I have had a bad conversation with one rep, I usually try again and get a different response (having learnt a little about what they want to hear from the previous call:rotfl: ). The other thing is that people should not hide behind Payplan (or CCCS). Yes, the names do carry weight. And some things they do much better than you could do yourself. However, a lot of people are scared of speaking directly to the creditors (despite being a three-month DMP veteran, I myself was nearly put off calling back). I doubt Payplan would have got to the bottom of the problem as quickly as I did.

I would love to know has anyone else got a loan with A&L? How have they been with you? And does anyone else think it's funny that some creditors go straight for the default whilst others are happy to abstain from registering a default as long as you keep to your payment plan. I think there should be a law to standardise this (as long as it's in our favour ;) )

    Anyway, rant over!

    Thanks HardleyLisa.
I asked because, the first settlement agreement I had from Barclays had my current account number on it. I went back to Barclays with a full list of charges for the last 6 years. The latest settlement agreement I had from Barclays had my loan account number on it.

I am in same boat as Lonely as my partner does not know about this, and we have a property in joint names.

My 2 creditors are Barclays and Argos and both have held off defaults so far, accepted goodwill payments, and given me a couple of weeks to work with CCCS to get offer to them.

    Hi
Things have not got totaly drastic yet, but was getting harder to cover up, and that one of the reasons I have done something and gone for a DMP.

My initial debts that have snowballed related firstly to university and then a previous relationship and associated house sale so not something I wanted to tell my partner about. She is also very good and sensible with money unlike I have been.

I manage to pay my mortgage and joint bills each month, but have started to not be able to afford my personal monthly debts and have been able to keep this to myself.
Have had letters, and any phone calls I have done at work. Make sure no statements , paper work left around etc.

I do feel bad and guilty but guess feel I have let her down and a bit ashamed.
