Dmp Mutal Support Thread (Part Two)

HI,
I dont think you should worry at all. I had an OD when I first started my DMP and I didnt include it (even though Payplan knew about it). I arranged to reduce it with my bank directly by £50 a month. It was £500 and it took a while, but got there in the end. Also, about a year ago I needed a new washing machine as mine gave up the ghost BIG TIME! I did not have £300-400 to get a new one, but our electricity company offer 11 months interest free. I phoned payplan about it at the time and they offered to slash my outgoing payments for 3 months in order to save up and get it, but I needed to get it immediately. I did ask them what the consequence would be if I got the interest free credit for the washer as I couldnt wait that long and the monthly payment would come out of my household budget. SHe said she advised against it, but couldnt stop me, if she didnt know about it! So we pretended we had never had that conversation and months on I have got my washer and i paid the remaining balance off (about £200) when I got my charges back. None the wiser......
Still waiting for my complaint letter to be acknowledge from MBNA...... I wish it would hurry up! It has only been since 12th October so I know I am being impatient and someone has to go through the complaint and my file etc etc...... Still got those fingers crossed.....LBM: March, 2005

Hi all
OH and I had our lightbulb moment a couple of weeks ago when I didn't get paid (Thanks Royal Mail!) and had to extend the OD yet again to cover bills.
We went onto CCCS website and signed up for a DMP. Have recieved our initial 'welcome letter' today.
Feeling more positive now and will start filling in the letter to creditors after DS and DD have gone to bed.
I have read some of this thread and found lots of helpful advice so have some idea which of our creditors may be likely to give us hassle so at least we are forewarned.
One question I do have is... on the form we have to fill in, what can we put in the change of circumstance as the reason we are struggling is the increase in interest on minimum payments and the fact that we have finally taken our heads out of the sand:rolleyes: . What could we put that is likely to be accepted by them. Also before lightbulb moment we tried paying off a little extra off credit cards but always ended up taking the money back off the card later in the month and am worried they might think we are having them on, entering into a DMP.
Hope someone can help0 -
Hi and welcome Bonnie
How about something like 'Financially overstretched'. I have heard this used before in these forms.
Good luck on your journey

thanks ym.
I have been a lurker on here for a few weeks now but OH was amazed at such a quick reply:T but i knew someone would know how to put it!
thanks again.0 -
YM is spot on that is the reason I think most people use, you could add in if you have a mortgage rising interest rates cost of living but it all adds up to the same thing really.
Welcome to the brood! I really apprecitate the support in this thread so hope you feel the same in time!0 -
Yes welcome. I am new here too and have been on a DMP for 2 1/2 years. I wish I had known about this site whilst I was setting mine up. Some creditors are well known for not being very nice at all, but acknowledging you have a problem and you need help is nothing to be ashamed of, but proud. Its like going into the lions den and finding out there is just a big !!!!! cat inside. I feel great knowing that I am not alone. I didnt even tell my family I was going on a DMP, but my son and I enjoy a better quality of life now than we ever have and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. We all want things and have gone and got them in the past and trying to live without credit is tough, you just have to remember it was never your money anyway. Even an overdraft is not your money. It is a real sense of pride when you save a little for something, even real beans instead of brand ones (!!!) and you get it with YOUR money. Your sleepless nights (and I bet you have had a few) will soon be a thing of the past.
you will never be the worst off and your health and your family come first, but grabbing back your own life through sorting out your finances is a huge step and one you will never regret......
Good luck xLBM: March, 2005

Well said jillyojolly (love that name!) I couldnt agree more.
Best thing i ever did.
I am thinking of paying off my 3 smallest creditors as a xmas present to myself and my hubby, ballances for the 3 come to around £500 and that would then only leave me with 5 creditors!!
Not bad going down to 5 from 12 in 20 odd months!!
Still thinking about it and need to work out the budget, to see if i can manage it.
Have a good day everyone

hi all,
dh been off so not been around.btw, think that will be on my tombstone.....she was wife, mother, financally overstretched......
and as for the o/d, this is my rock in a crazy world and am on the o/d more than in the black lately.
bad day yesday, dh was relying on a top up from the loan hes had for years to fund the hols and repairs, and they kept sending letters asking if he wanted to top up for the same payment, whichhe used to tear up.as soon as he wanted the letter, they didnt send any, so he foned, big mistake!!!!was ok till they checked credit rating at end and he was declined.
thats cos of my record, same address.....death by association.its so wrong of them cos he always pays, is never late and had a great rating.....unlike mine which is so low, it can be found buried under the grand canyon!!!!!!
these comps shouldnt be able to judge someone on anothers mistakes, should be based on their own record.
so you can imagine how carp i felt all day.has been very philosophical about the whole thing, which in a way has made it worse,,,,and i feel like leaving home for a small country where noone knows me.think i would have got the gist of this money /credit thing by now, after ruining our lives once before.
oh no, as soon as i could get credit again, bring on the loans and credit cards, im my own worst enemy.
you lot have been warned, especially ym......o/d in emergencies(real ones!!) and no cards.xx
must get on .
love ilgd xxPeople bring great joy into our lives..some by arriving, others by leaving.im trying to be one of the former, so please bear with
LOVE ME, LOVE MY NEWFOUNDLAND.:A0 -
Sorry archer85 just noticed you are also with CCCs not payplan.
Hiya Amani
Yep with CCC'sI have recently been speaking with MBNA over the phone ref there short settlement offer. I sent them a letter monday recorded delivery asking for confirmation that are accepting me on this plan.
I am waiting for a reply otherwise there getting no money till i have it all in writing, because they can quite easily turn round and call you a lier !!!
I'm also slowly learning to take all they say with a pinch or salt because they do fobb you off.
My partner is getting the brunt of the creditors wrath especially from Northern rock and first plus. Northern rock have already taken out a CCJ against him so he appealed against it and has had it tranferred to our local court (((((fingers crossed))))
As for first plus, well we are waiting to see what the solicitors have up there sleeves. Note that both creditors have used the same solictors ((eversheds)) watch out for them!!!!
It's going to take abit of time to adjust i think :cool:Couldn't be prouder to be dealing with my debts :T:rotfl:
