aww thanks, you guys/girls seem so positive and welcoming. That is very reassuring, I am feeling so sick and anxious about it all, and for the first time in life actually *worried* about money. It's a weird feeling, usually I've just done what I want / bought what I've wanted / not think about how things cost and that's obviously what's got me in this fine mess.
Thanks for your advice. I have a debt going out on the 10th, not sure whether to stop the direct debit and write to them as I haven't yet received my pack from CCCS, is the web number you get initially the same as the reference number? Shall I just say that I've seeked advice and offer a token payment?
Thanks for bearing with me, I really feel sick and worried. Agh.
But at the same time positive about finally taking steps to sort it out. The thought of being debt free in 4 and half years time, and being in a position to get a property on my own / treat myself etc etc is really good. And I know deep down if I didn't do anything about it I would be in a worse position, if not impossible, in 4 and a half years time.
Any other top tips?!

Good morning,
I hope everyone is ok.
Emmey - I am in the same boat as you. I finally realised that I had to do something about my money situation recently and am in the process of starting a DMP with Payplan after the helpful advice here. I too felt sick and worried, it's horrible but as each day passes I feel better as I know that I am finally doing something about it.
I have my first phone call with my caseworker tomorrow lunchtime to go through my DMP with me. So far they have been brilliant, I have had numerous phonecalls etc just reassuring me and going through my budget etc and I am going to be paying them £787 per month towards my debts.
I will be posting tomorrow after my phonecall with my caseworker so hopefully might be able to answer a few questions for you as I too am not sure re token payments, cancelling direct debits etc. I have a list of questions to ask tomorrow.
Anyhow, sorry for long post. Good luck in your DMP!
Take care x0 -
I have my Phone call with Payplan today to go through my debts and stuff.
Im having a nightmare, i got a ministatement out of my bank on saturday and it showed my Mortgage going out, albeit OD but as long as it was paid the mortgage I dont care. But no they bounched it monday morning and now I havnt got enough to pay it nowI have £500 and not £980 i need.
They took my loan which i didnt want to pay I was just going to make a token gesture
I change bank accounts next month which will make things better, and i can cancel my DD for my bank. but it doesnt help me this month.
I have no money what so ever0 -
Hi S - chicky.
Let me know how you get on with your phonecall today. Is it your initial call? They are really lovely and I have been nothing but informed about everything that is going on so far. They always leave messages, contact names and also numbers to call them back on.
Sorry to hear about your nightmare re mortgage, is your loan with the bank that your current account is with? I am concerned about this too as I am with Halifax and have two loans with them which I just know despite all correspondece etc they are just going to keep on taking from my current account which will have no money in it and they charge me 1. for making the payment without sufficient funds and 2. charge me for going over my overdraft limit. But I am hoping if this does happen I will be able to complain with Payplan and get the charges reimbursed...will try my hardest!
Is there anyone that could help you out with the mortgage whilst you start up DMP? I would at the least phone the mortgage company and tell them that you have issue with bank and offer them the 500. Better to let them know.
Let us know how you get on today.0 -
sorting it... good to hear from you and good luck with your phonecall, surfer chick you too!
hope it goes well, i will look for your updates
just waiting for my bits & pieces in the post, I realised I had made a mistake with my salary, and put down I earnt more than I do so have emailed them to rectify what I said! I have applied for a fresh bank account too, so am just waiting to hear if I've been accepted for that too.
Feeling a bit down in the dumps but hopefully making a positive move by starting all this
speak to you soon, hope it goes well

Hello everyone
YM Enjoy your break from MSE. Like you I decided to just lurk now and again because it was beginning to take over my life. So much so my 7 year old daughter thought I was emailing my boyfriend - not good when she told OH :rotfl: :rotfl: Luckily he thought it was funny. You will be missed :A
Well not much happening with me. Citi Cards sold my debt to Cabot Financial who started charging me interest   Phoned them and they said they would stop the interest but wouldn't refund any interest already charged.
Good luck to any newbies (and regulars of course) on their DFW journey.
Take care

Hi surfer_chicky,
Ah thats great news - you're making the first step and you'll reap the benefits long term!
Yep you can still claim bank charges back (once they finally get their act together - i received my standard 'we believe our charges are fair' letter from Natwest this morning grrrrr). If you have any charges on credit cards / catalgues crack on with those0 -

I feel the same way -I've just called Payplan. although I don't have full details of amounts repayable YET and don't have full details of I&E (lost my internet login details). they were very nice.
I've got an appt on sunday to go through a full financial assessment. Whew
Now I need you guys to firstly kick me up the A^S£ to open the letters from the DCAs and then hold my hand while I feel sicker than I do now...total debt at lightbulb 18th April 2007:idea: £42367.60:eek: DFW Nerd No 725. DFW longhauler no 8. Official DMP mutal support club member no 62.0
