Very pleased for you amani. You sound such a lovely person so you deserve all the good fortune you get.

Rachel, don't think I will ever use a credit card again. I have always hated being in debt and had to help out my mum on several occasions when I was young. It put me off debt then. Now we are in massive debt largely because I have invested some credit card money on the Stock Market over the last couple of years and made some losses. Also made profits mind you and need to in future or we will be in debt for years. Two shares currently suspended and if one of them at least doesn't return at some point so I can retrieve some cash I am going to feel very very badly as I have thousands invested in those two shares alone. Keeping everything crossed that the one that has been most recently suspended comes back to the market within two to four months at worst. Beginning to wonder if it won't today :(

Sorry folks. Am not usually anxious and worried.

Newlywed, have a look at this site. They also recommend car auctions and garages. Honest John writes in the Daily Telgraph and doesn't recommend cars or sites unless they are reliable. I used to buy privately but the advantage you get from buying from a reliable garage (Toyota are very good) is the warranty. That alone can save you money on repairs.

    Hope it helps,

Thanks. Nearest garages are 10-15 miles away, anything is worth a try though!

Didn't realise there is an auction about 10 miles away either.

    Good morning all.

Well horrible damp day down here today. Hope it is better where you are.

amani. congrats on your success with Sainsburys bank. It is nice when someone agrees to your DMP :T

EGG agreed mine the other day with my loan account but not yet heard about my credit card. Logged on today and they have charged me interest and late payment fee. Ho Hum. One step forward 2 back with Egg at the moment and from what i have heard about them it will probably be passed onto a DCA shortly.

Not up to much today. OH is doing a boot fair today and i have my DS's today so try to keep everybody busy.

Not much else to report so will catch up with you all later.

    Hi
After realising the extent of my situation I have decided to go on a DMP with CCCS.Did the debt remedy on their website and have an appointment on 4th June.Have cancelled my dd/standing orders with my creditors (HSBC and EGG) and am waiting for the booklet to arrive in the post, so I can then send the letters and token payments off to the creditors. I am so nervous! Can anyone offer any advice on this such as how their DMP has gone etc?
Website said should be paid off in 3 years 5 months time, hopefully sooner though as I have a 2nd job starting in September. I feel so stupid for getting into this state, but I suppose I am doing something about it...

    toasti.

Well done on getting yourself sorted :T

I am with Payplan for my DMP and so far it has gone well.

Have you a ref no for CCCS yet. If you have send a token payment soon with a covering letter explaining the situation to your creditors.

Are any of your creditors connected with you bank account. If they are i would open a new account with someone not related to them. This way your money, wages etc, are safe just in case they get a bit funny. I have EGG as one of my creditors and so far have played ball although the CC has not stopped interest or late payments.

We all feel nervous and if you cannot face phone calls ask for correspondence to be in writing with your covering letter. I did this and have had hardly any calls.

When it is up and running you will wonder why you did not do this a long time ago. I know i do.

All the best and good luck.

    Hi
    Thanks very much.
Yes I have a reference number, rang HSBC and they said to put it in writing so I will do that later today...do I send it to my local branch or not?
The bank account I have now is different to HSBC its with a local building society so that shouldn't be a problem.
I really do not want any phone calls so I will ask them to post me anything. If any calls do occur do I answer and say put it in writing? HSBC have been a bit phone call keen in the past...
One more thing...do I send 3 different cheques to HSBC with a token payment (have overdraft, credit card and loan with them) or can I put it on the same cheque? How much should be offered as a token payment?

    Hi toastie,
I am with CCCS. If you get phone calls just say "I'm contacting CCCS with regard to a Debt Management Plan (give your client number when you have it) and they will be contacting you shortly".

That "should" stop the phone calls for a few days. HSBC only rang me after they heard from CCCS (but I only missed one payment with them). GE Money took 5 times before it sunk in but they have finally stopped phoning. Mint rang once and I told them about the DMP and gave the reference number and never phoned again.

Have just started this month and one has agreed to stop interest temporarily, one has halved my interest immediately, and the other is still asking for payment proposals!! ;)

I found the phone calls have been less distressing since I've answered them and told them about CCCS. Although GE Money did ring me every day and I told them for days in a row about CCCS which they then said was on the records. The last guy said it should have been flagged to stop the phone calls but the other people didn't do it right!! ;)

    I sent token payments of £5 as that's all I had. :o

Post today is GE Money saying they can't stop interest until they hear from CCCS - when the letter 6 days before that from another department says they accept CCCS' proposal and will suspend interest for a temporary period.

Other letter is Mint saying I have 14 days to pay £10k or give proposals. Guess they are ignoring CCCS then??? Will write to them as they haven't acknowledged the payment plan.

Hope everyone else has a quiet weekend from the post and phone calls etc.
