This is probably mentioned somewhere, but do you have a degree? If so, you can do a quickie TEFAL course and go and teach English in China/Thailand/Korea/Japan + wherever else for a year. They pay for your accomodation etc and I think you get a menial wage which is just enough to get by on.0

Where are the best places that you've been to?
I love India, I travelled around for three months and it was amazing, I will definitely go back. I went in the monsoon season so next time I will go at a different time.
Singapore and Malaysia were brilliant too, I was there throughout the summer.
In Europe, Prague and Croatia were great to travel round.
These are some of my favourites

I would second this idea, but the better qualification for this is CELTA & you can earn more than enough to live on in some countries. One of my relatives taught in Vietnam for a while & came home from their travels with some spare cash!0 -
Sorry to put a downer on this "holiday" thread, as I cannot offer any advice as I am not a well travelled person.
What I find strange OP is that you are having difficulties staying on your own at the moment and don't feel well enough to return to your job at the moment.
I think that making life changing decisions at the moment would be unwise and that normality is required for the immediate future.
Sorry if this is harsh but I don't think that people who have made big decisions, like you have recently, need or can cope with too many changes.0 -
I actually agree to the point where I think you are going to have to tackle head on why you dont want to be at work at the moment.
Theres a few reasons youve spoken about, the fact that you dont want to be seen to be upset in front of colleagues. Issues with generally feeling like you arent being challenged enough in the job, its well paid but it doesnt challenge you and other issues you've spoken about. And at the moment you are living in a safe bubble, because you have your mum. I can understand why you dont want to be in the house you shared with your ex but you have choices, you can see it to the end of the lease and try and find something else, stay and try and make it yours.
I think the problem with being off work for a spell and Ive been there is the longer you leave it, the harder it can be to go back. But if you leave it too long, its also going to affect you financially as I would imagine they can only pay full sick pay for so long. Its also going to be on your personnel file (and I appreciate its possible to go back and work out a sickness absence in the respect that companies only ask so far back).
But at the moment, I think you are stuck and for your own sake you need to give yourself a push and make strides forward and I understand youve been through an upsetting time and you've also shared some other stuff on here.
But I imagine theres aspects of all our lives that we would like to change and make better. You do have more choices than a lot of people because your job pays you well. You can afford to take a years unpaid leave. And possibly when you do return to work you'll know whether you want to stay there or not.
But for now, I think you need to get that counselling appointment made, get back to your flat if you can and also see people, friends (I know you do see people). And then as the poster above says, make decisions about what you want to do next
And if in the middle of that you want to go away for a few days on your own or with a friend, absolutely fine, it might help you make a decision about where to go from here.0 -
