((((Hugs)))) ceebeeby. How are things with you?

Glad that you're finding all the advice useful as well. I hope that others are too. I've had a few PMs from people lurking on here, saying how fantastic all the advice is.

Perhaps I should index this thread e.g. first day of freedom p.30-34, bra shopping p.37, legal advice p.52-55, making a will p.74, insomnia cures p.86-91! :o:)

I love this idea - and presumably you could retitle the whole thing "How to save your own life" as that's what you've done.
I'm glad to see you aren't STILL online after the 1.24am post...
hope you have slept a bit.

Bit rubbish to be honest Tay, but trying to hold it together ;). Thanks so much for asking, so lovely that people on here care.

I think that's a brilliant idea about book-marking it. There's heaps of useful ideas on this thread, and you're right Tay about the number of people experiencing similar "struggle" times and it being a useful resource for many.

I'm so inspired when someone manages to overcome a hurdle that it does spur me on to keep going.

Oo-er, I don't have a clock radio so will have to figure out if my phone has a sleep function - I guess the battery would run out eventually lol.

Hmm, a Mon-Fri lodger could be an idea. I'll give it some thought.

Good thinking on 'giving yourself permission not to sleep'. I can do that atm because I don't have to get up for work, and can sleep a bit later if needs be. Before I go back to work, I'll need to establish a good sleep pattern. But for now I'll just focus on the present.

Those daylight alarm clocks look really interesting.

The other thing worth mentioning is reading the thread etc late at night is 'stimulating'. It's really hard, I know (I am guilty of it on difficult nights too) but if really tackling the insomnia its worth setting a 'bed time' and then say twenty minutes before that turn off phone/computer. It's hard, particularly after such huge changes, to not look for 'outside stimulation' to avoid negative introspection......but the alternative is a bit like expecting a car engine to be cool the minute you switch the car off.

A final tip....don't aim for perfection ...with sleep as much as anything else. Allow your self to get it wrong as regards reading mse late at night ;) once in a while. Just make the general trend positive for your health and well being. Maybe, if you are ATM posting after 1 am set a 12:30 deadline, then move it back to a time at which you can comfortably get eight hours sleep and wake in time for work.

As cliched as it is I really do find the hours before midnight seem to be worth more in sleep terms. My timetable is such that I have to be up until 10:30 at least and up again by at least 6:30. Last night I think I didn't long after eleven until five twenty. The five twenty is pretty ideal for me, earlier sleep would have been nicer. If I sleep longer than 7 and a half or eight hours I actually get very groggy. I do when I a, suffering more with my health condition have to sleep extra hours in the day, and the grogginess of the extra sleep is very wearing.

Good luck, you have lots of tips. See which ones work for you, but give each one a fair crack of the whip. Insomnia thrives on our failure to commit to regime and methods IME.....bore into hiding :)

No. I think it's symptomatic of the world we live in - the pressures, the timetables, the materialism, the demands on our energy, the need to be find an identity. Ironically I had difficulty dropping off myself last night. I was tired but didn't crawl between the covers until gone 11.30 then read for half an hour. Half an hour after that I was forced to apply my patented ipod/podcast technique and 5 minutes of Today in Parliament did the trick! This morning though I still feel tired so in need of lots of tea to get going!

  • Tay,

First of all I would say that indexing the thread would help me a great deal! I've been so busy at work I can't keep bloomin' track as there are just TOO many people that care about you to keep up!

Hello everyone. I'm pleased to report a slightly better aleep again last night. I tried to concentrate on my breathing, and repeated 'in... out...' in my mind with each breath. It took ages to drop off, but I slept for seven hours and only woke up once. :)

I was half-joking about indexing the thread :rotfl: but perhaps I should! It would take a while, but would give me something to do when I'm finally back in my own house and staring at the four walls. Maybe I'll do it :) Orlando_Virgin, I'll be sure to include your 'motivational bomb' lol.

ceebeeby - sorry to hear that you're having a hard time. Feel free to talk about it on here or via PM. You're doing well just to hold it together, tbh. Do youhave any support ATM?

Good point about stimulation, lostinrates. I do tend to stay up too late reading this board. I always get to a point when I turn off the phone and try to sleep... but perhaps that point should be earlier. I'll try that.

Tay, you probably are not going to thank me for this....

But as far as your sleep is concerned, you should really be aiming to be in bed by 10pm with NO laptop/TV/anything that will stimulate your brain activity, with a view to winding down and resting so that you are asleep before midnight.

I do realise that there is a certain amount of 'pot' and 'kettle' in the above statement as I am also a night owl. But if you can train yourself to get to sleep early and rise early, you will find that your body will respond to the routine and your sleeping habits will settle down.
