I've blocked the posts of a few if my friends and relatives because they post inane rubbish - that way I can still have a look at their page if I want but my newsfeed doesn't get clogged up with drivel.

I'm not quite understanding this thing about being obligated to thank posts or photos. Yes it's nice to know that someone likes a particular pic but if they "liked" all of them them then the likes become meaningless. It seems that some people view Facebook as some sort of competition over who is the most popular or needy, and that's just a bit sad...

I use it to stay connected to friends and family, to take part in competitions and to keep up with news and events that I'd otherwise miss out on. I do like following brands that I have an interest in too but I don't post many status updates, only if I have something I really want to share. :)

Ok confession time :o I use facebook and tend to post a lot of jokey/sentimental pics. I'm not concerned about whether my friends 'like' them or not, however it REALLY gets my goat if someone 'shares' them without 'liking' them. That's just rude  I've deleted people who did it regularly, but came a bit unstuck when my own sister did it :rotfl: That put me in a real predicament!!
    I know it's ridiculously childish, but I just can't help it :D

I've only got 100ish friends (I say only as many of my friends have several hundred!) but it's not unusual for the same picture to be posted a lot - anything up to a dozen times in a few instances, 3-6 is really common.
So it could be that when it came up it was a compacted post where it says x, y, z and hippopotamus have shared photo - or it's even come up as an entirely separate load of posts.

So, it's probable you've deleted friends over something they weren't doing.

I read FB most days on my phone and/or PC but I still miss over 50% of posts I'd guess, it drives me up the wall when people assume I've seen a post I've neither liked or commented on. If it's important for a particular person to know something, tell them directly.

I have a few friends set so hardly anything of theirs shows. I like a funny cat picture as much as the next gal, but my friend who shares on average 8 or more religious photo shares and at least as many non-religious, no. Another just often shares photos constantly for several hours. If I left them in I never got to see actual posts. The great thing is you can change it between showing all, most or only important posts or hide from newsfeed entirely, yet keep the person as a FB friend.

Oh I only have notifications of direct messages on my phone, so people can contact me via FB, nothing else. Well, I lie, friend requests and acceptances too :) But no other posts, not even on my wall.

Yes, that's the kind of thing I am talking about.

There have been things in the past that I have posted.

Example: I will post 'husband has got a new job' or 'dog has died'.

I meet up with a friend the following week who asks me how I am. I say 'well my husband has got a new job and my dog has died'. Friend will then look sheepish and say 'Oh I am sorry, I didn't know that!' When they clearly did.

These are normal, rational, educated people who just act odd about FB and pretend they haven't seen it.

It has given me a very different perspective on people!

Sorry OP, I don't get it.

I have a facebook account, I glance at it a few times a day, occasionally post/like/comment and sometimes use it for group e-mailing as its a simple way to get the same info to a lot of people.

I certainly don't spend any time making sure I see every single post every single one of my friends ever makes. Most of them are pretty trivial, and I assume that if there's something important I should know then I'll actually be told, rather than being expected to check facebook constantly just in case!

You can't compare it to real life at all, can you imagine going through a photo album saying 'like, like, like...no, unlike...like like...lol...tag me in that one...'

There are people who are snobby about facebook and act like its beneath them but what you're talking about isn't really an indicator of that attitude.

I use it to keep in touch with my family who live far away. Its quick and easy to message on my laptop whilst im doing chores indoors. I do ring them of course, but me and my sis could natter for hours :D. So on occassions when we are privately talking on facebook we just say were off to do something and pop in and out. Its really good for that, as im quicker on the laptop than txting and she doesnt like using her mobile. I very rarely post and rarely read whats on my wall, im not interested. That part seems all a bit fake, as im not interested in so and so's daughter doing her first poo in a potty!!! geez!!! which yes has been posted on my wall.
Edited just to say, my privacy is locked down too. And i deleted a lot of school friends, who i did add when there seemed to be all this reunion stuff going on. I havnt spoke to them for 32 years so why would i now. One guy that was in my school asked me for a coffee, i said yes as im single, not knowing he was married as i dont go on his pages. I deleted him pretty quickly. I can see where it can be missued.

It'll do that even if 5 people have posted it, all will get the notification ;)

By the way all/most of my profile is friends only. A few pics are friends of friends. I find it worrying when people leave everything, often including phone numbers, location and WHEN THEY'RE ON HOLIDAY AND LEAVING AN EMPTY HOUSE public.

Oh, I do comps on mine too. And twitter :D

I use it but only have a few friends. I also use the local buying and selling pages - cheaper than ebay.
