    Hi
I use it, but to be honest.....its more me being a nosy Muppet!! I don't post much but will comment or like posts. my profile is private and only have friends and family as 'friends'. I like to keep up to date with my friends children and seeing their progress as I only go back 'home' once every couple of months and as most of my friends are stay at home mums they are often online. I am trying for our first baby so I am sure it will come in useful in the future for advice at 3am!!!!

I also have many friends in New Zealand and America from when I lived in those countries and it is great for keeping in touch.

I can see why it is less popular now, but I do not understand twitter that everyone has moved to! Maybe, at 31, I will have to admit, I am getting old!!!!!!
Proud mummy to an amazing 8 year old!

I will put another example forwards. I have family and friends across 3 continents and that is one of the main reasons I use FB.

All these family members encourage me to use FB to put photos of our little boy growing up.

I post these photos. They obviously view them, save them, print them out, or whatever.

Nobody 'likes' or comments on them though. Don't get me wrong, I am not hedonistic, I am not seeking rewards for putting these photos up but if I don't get an acknowledgment I will stop doing it.

If I stop doing it, I get emails / phone calls asking why I am not sharing my life, lol!

I just find it all a bit odd. To the extent, I have been looking at the psychology of it all.

    yes, i agree, thats odd.

There no rule you have to "like" or comment on everything people post on facebook. You shouldnt feel the need to? Do you think there is some facebook etiquette that dictates you must like or comment.

I am bit disdainful of facebook i use to communicate with a select few but hate the games that come with it where you have have to ask (annoy) people with requests for levels and coins.

I know of a few people that say they don't go on, its not true. If I send them on msg on facebook, they open it rather sharpish to see what it is. I think its daft myself.

I'll be honest, I have a 'friend' on my Facebook who to look at his wall you would think he never uses it but he is my husbands best friend and when they converse on the phone he'll comment to my husband about the things i post. Recently the best friends brother has added me too. I think ive met him three times.:rotfl:

Only a few weeks ago on Valentines day i made a post on my Facebook 'Oh what a suprise no Valentine card again!' which went back to my husband. :D:D:D

Yes Facebook has its uses. ;)

I use FB a lot but have never played any of the games. I keep up with friends overseas, I have little rants or moans, I post pictures and enjoy seeing others. I've never felt obliged to 'like' nor been bothered if people don't 'like' mine. But a friend who's lived the last 20 years overseas recently married - I've never met her husband but he added me as a friend and 'likes' pretty much everything I post...his wife (my real friend) rarely does...different people have different ways of using it. i don't get that hung up - to me a 'like' is no big deal either way.
I have some friends who seem to live their whole lives on FB, literally going on first thing to say good morning to everyone and narrate on her breakfast, and finishes by annoucing she's off to bed, with hundreds of posts in between. I hope somebody will shoot me if I ever get to that stage!

I use it a lot, but only to view, I rarely post, except if it is something I know my friends will be interested in. I don't have people on there who I dislike or have nothing in common with. My profile is set to friends only. I use the chat feature to chat to my eldest son who has just moved out!

I hate posts which give the minutiae of life, much like blog by the average person, we all do chores, we all make dinner, I am not interested in hearing about you doing it.

I am also uneasy about parents who post every detail of their child online. I have a friend in Aus who has posted literally thousands of pics of her son. And I think those who post that they are off on holiday/at the airport etc are really silly. Post when you get back, but don't let everybody know your house is empty for x weeks.

And I don't play games, so wish people would stop asking me to!!

I use it as a tool and it helps me be nosey!
  • I'm not a huge fan but I'm just careful about what friend requests I accept. I mainly use it for chit chatting with my siblings if I can't be bothered getting into a phonecall. And George Takei posts - he's hilarious!

Yes, that's the kind of thing I am talking about.

There have been things in the past that I have posted.

Example: I will post 'husband has got a new job' or 'dog has died'.

I meet up with a friend the following week who asks me how I am. I say 'well my husband has got a new job and my dog has died'. Friend will then look sheepish and say 'Oh I am sorry, I didn't know that!' When they clearly did.

These are normal, rational, educated people who just act odd about FB and pretend they haven't seen it.

It has given me a very different perspective on people!
