Facebook Question (please only view if you use FB)

So, for those who use it, I am really interested in how you use it and why.

I use FB to keep in touch with friends and family all over the world.

I just don't get how others use it though. There seems to be a culture of people pretending not to use it, despite the fact they clearly read all the posts.

Is it 'cool' to pretend not to use it? If it is so not cool, why not just not use it, rather than read it and pretend not to, lol!

I have a profile on FB but it's set to private, so only people I'm friends with can view it. I know quite a lot of people who enjoy a rather "alternative" lifestyle and I really don't need employers to know anything about that.

I quite like seeing all the daft things my friends get up to but don't really post many updates myself.

I use it every now and then to keep in touch with everyone. It's great for organising events/ nights out. I'm not one of those people who has 1000 friends on it though. I only keep close friends / family as I don't see the point in adding/ accepting people I don't know or speak to.

Tbh if facebook was 'uncool' no one would be on it! ... Ok your on it to keep in touch with fam/friends but the reason everyone is on thier because it was the 'cool' thing when it came out.

I *personally* belive everyone is bored of it now but stays on thier to keep in touch (obvouisly this isnt everybody) so you might find someone scrolls down the posts but doesnt bother to comment....and says its not worth while but same time doesnt want to delete it because then they might miss out on an event or some gossip.

I think your basing this post on one person you know.
People don't know what they want until you show them.

I use it for Farmville mostly . My daughter has her own FB account and she likes and subscribes to all sorts of nonsense (mostly One Direction stuff at the moment).
I keep up with what my nephew is doing (my BIL posts his football fixtures on FB) and some (but not all) of my immedate family is on FB and I've added them. I don't like seeing swearing on FB though, so I delete anyone I've added who swears a lot on FB.

Should I take it from this, that you are not wanting this subject to be debated and discussed by people, with all manner of opinions and perspectives?
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

I deactivated facebook for 3 years and just after christmas I thought I would reactivate myself, I don't post anything but I like to see what old school friends are up to, and family that I don't see all the time.

I must admit tho I am getting quite addicted to candy crush game.... I actually go on every few hours to have 5 goes at once..... before anyone says it YES I know i'm a sad biff lol

I was actually quite surprised to read nasty comments about myself posted from my bestfriend (exfriend now) from various times when my children were poorly and I couldn't meet her in town to sit in a coffee shop for hours on end (very dull and actually bad for me as I am allergic to coffee) so blocked and deleted her and in the last 3 months I have saved over £100 :-) very mse lol and I have been able to take my kids on some lovely days out so far ,weathers a bit pants tho.

I think it's more of a case of the OP wanting to know why people use it, not really a question for people who hate it and don't bother.

yes I can see that point of view completely. I rarely comment or like posts from folk on my FB, and I regularly read one post then don't bother reading the comments after it (just not that interested to be honest).

Use facebook mainly for games, can't say I give a hoot about the old school friends or people I got on there apart from my OH very rarely talk to anyone on there. Facebook is the worst form of social networking sites and see people fall out because of some stupid status or another.

I use it all the time.

My profile is private and I'm careful who I add after I encountered a rather unpleasant bully via a group I was in.

    I am in several groups.

I chat to people on my/their wall and also by pm.

I rarely use the chat feature and I don't tend to go on many business pages.

I have friends who post news items and stuff like that about a wide range of issues and I enjoy reading and looking into things I would not otherwise come across.

I have several FB friends who I have never met in real life but I chat to them often and enjoy reading their updates. A couple are from MSE and the others from FB groups.

I also have local friends and family in my friend list and it is the main way I communicate between face to face meet ups with a few of them - it's cheaper than texts!
