Nationwide Flexplus account - feedback

  • I have held a current account with Nationwide for over 20 years with no problems and I upgraded to the Flexplus account at the end of May. The transfer was very smooth and all was going well until just over 5 weeks ago when My Flexplus account 'dropped off' online (all other accounts are fine - credit card, mortgage etc.). I have sent secure messages, rang missing accounts, had my branch ring and every time an incident has been recorded and I'm being told it will be resolved within 48 hours as it is due to a technology fault! As well as not being able to access the account online the branch have difficulty accessing it and I have problems getting mini statements and making lodgements! Has anyone else had any of these problems? Can anyone advise me of where I can go to have the matter raised higher as this is so frustrating and it's costing me money and time and I am also paying £10 per month for the privilege! Are there major technology problems with this account and if so surely Nationwide should be making customers aware of this!
  • I signed up for this account last month. It took them a while to transfer the account from the normal nationwaide Flex account but they kept me informed all the while, gave me £5 to cover loss of interest and the insurance policies offered were put in place from the date that I applied to upgrade. I signed up mainly to get the mobile phone insurance, as I had just got my youngest a Galaxy S3 on contract. Within 2 weeks of her getting the phone, it was knocked out of her hand and the screen smashed. I claimed under the phone insurance, the phone was sent away and returned, repaired, within about a week, at an excess cost of £25, a repairer had quoted me £180. Already the £10 a month has paid for itself for over a year.
This week, my husband's back tyres were slashed on our driveway, our RAC cover is just about to expire, they wouldn't cover it as it was 'vandalism', rang the Nationwide FlexPlus breakdown service, and they are planning to send someone out to take the car to the garage as soon as he is ready for it to go.
So I am more than happy with my decision to switch to the Nationwide FlexPlus account.
  • I upgraded a Flexaccount I already had because of the situation with Santander's packaged account. When I rang the insurance line to discuss my ailments they went through a standard list of questions that I have been asked before with no problems. For example I have asthma and I was asked if I could walk 200 metres without catching my breath and so on. I was then told to be covered I would have to pay £60. I declined. My wife smashed her new mobile. The communication was dreadful and they were not able to source a replacement after saying the phone was uneconomical to repair (a local shop had offered to fix it for £90). They have settled for the cost of a new phone and I am waiting for that to be paid but I am unbelievably unimpressed and we are going to move to First Direct as they pay £125 to join. I can get European family Travel Insurance, covered for my ailments for under £60.

Don't you have that covered with you car insurance? I do.

The FlexPlus Insurance policy doesn't contain the word "keys".

That is weird because the Flexplus policy document doesn't talk about car keys anywhere. http://www.nationwide.co.uk/NR/rdonlyres/CF88A908-E8CB-4179-82A0-8952BE4D826D/0/P2226FlexPlusGuide.pdf

I will be upgrading to this account soon. Going to wait until my current breakdown cover runs out first. It's worth it for the breakdown and mobile insurance for me and were going to Florida next October so the travel insurance will be a big benefit too x

has anyone tried using the breakdown cover so far? who is it run by AA or greenflag or other? just curious on the level of service, as my new car did not come with a full free breakdown cover.

FlexPlus Breakdown cover is provided by Britannia Rescue and is underwritten by Liverpool Victoria Insurance Company Limited.
