Just one point of interest. My wife has a Nationwide account (just in her name) and we are thinking of upgrading it to Flexplus. We checked with them about the benefits and it seems the Travel and Phone insurance cover us both even with a sole account - phones for the whole family and for travel either of us can be on our own or with our children. But the breakdown cover is not so simple, as 'our' car is registered in my name...I am not covered when driving it, unless we get the v5 switched to her name.0

Is there a minimum monthly deposit with this account? ie. can I open this account and just transfer £10.01 a month from my Santander account and get the insurance benefits from the Flexplus account ?0

I applied for the FlexPlus account as a new customer and was accepted. The online form indicated that if I had been to my GP during the last year I had to check that the travel insurance was valid. I duly did this and gave them details of the minor ailments I had received prescriptions for. I wasn't expecting any problem since they are listed (along with 200+ other conditions) by the Co-op bank packaged account as " no need to notify " and I've never had a problem with any stand alone travel insurance either. However Nationwide wanted to charge an extra £70 a year to cover these and we hadn't even covered my husband's couple of visits to the doctor! In case you are wondering the ailments included heartburn and a bout of cystitis. It made me wonder what they would charge if either of us had something a little bit more serious. I decided to stick with the Co-op. Nationwide looks like a good policy but not if they are going to load you for every visit to the doctor whether life threatening or not. I advise anyone taking out the policy for the travel insurance to check on their cover. Then again was I foolish to make a full declaration?0

I experienced the opposite from them, I had my gallbladder removed in March and expected to pay extra for cover. Phoned and told them and they said that whilst I could pay an additional premium for any further associated problems if I wanted to, they didn't see the point as the problem (gallstone and partial blockage) had been removed.
Seems bizarre that they want such a large additional premium from you for heartburn and cystitis. Don't blame you for not paying.

I'm an existing Nationwide customer and have upgraded to the FlexPlus account. It's definitely worthwhile for the benefits we'll receive and it appears to be the best debit card for overseas ATM withdrawals.
I've had a lot of correspondence about my account being processed, being opened, not yet open, delays etc. so I hope I get my card in the near future before I travel. Then I suppose there'll be further delays waiting for a PIN..... They have reassured me I can use my existing debit card and will be refunded any overseas ATM fees incurred.
I've always found Nationwide to be on the slow side - "just pop into a branch"!0 -
I had a delay of 2 weeks when I upgraded but no problems beyond that. Your pin will remain the same for a new card if upgrading from Flexaccount and I believe your existing card will still work for 20 days."Life moves pretty fast, if you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it": Ferris Bueller

I applied for their Flex Plus as a new customer (never help an account with them before). I received a message at the end of the application stating I'd been accepted and they'd send me some forms to sing and also additional information required.
2 days later my welcome pack and confirmation of account opening was received. Nothing to sign or provide them.
Just waiting on my card and pin now. So far, they've been great.0
