Just had the loss adjuster out to assess for our patch of ceiling, that we had a our little water leak, to be repaired.. Err no it isn't as simple as that. I am now waiting for a phone call from the asbestos people to come out and do a sample test due to the age of the house! If it turns out to be asbestos we have to have the ceiling ripped out and a new one put in - ok not a problem you say but I have a 24ft through lounge/diner and the whole thing would have to be done!!! And we haven't long finished the decorating on the lounge walls/ceiling. Now remind me why we decided to put a claim in..? Can't they do what we did to the kitchen ceiling, and put a fake one on the top of it..lol We have 8ft ceilings so lowering it by 2in really doesn't make that much difference as the one in the kitchen looks like it has always been thereNow remind me why we decided to put a claim in..?
Precisely why I DIDN'T put a claim in!!! Tiny water leak brought down part of the kitchen ceiling, about 1/4 of it is going to be replaced.. £50 to repair the leak and £100 to replace and replaster the 1/4 of the ceiling.. mine is 19ftx12ft so not a small area!
Washing out on the line.. it is freezing out there but it seems to be blowing nicely so it should dry.
Off to B&Q for a plug for the new bath, then to Dunelm for DD2 some stacking boxes for under her bed. The carpet place next for flooring for the bathroom/loo/back room and them Dot can go to bed and we will head to Tesco... That should clear out the bank account!!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

I mentioned you fairly recently!
2 loads of washing on line. Didn't have any biological liquid and, looking at what DS wore to play football in, you can tell (grr at clay soil). Why didn't I think to chuck a handful of soda in?

Hello juliejim

HB I shall send all the pain-relief vibes I can muster for Dog. Mary sends her love, too.:o
Oh well better get on and get showered as I just threw clothes on as the guy didn't follow instructions and ring Dave first at work so he could warn me. Nope he just turned up!! Didn't do too well with that I can tell you..
LW you will understand this.!!
Have a (((HUG))), mate.
Been busy here, but not a lot of Flying I fear.:( Mainly carting Mary in and out for her hourly pee-break.:D Plus straightening the "carpet" of newspapers we have to have on the floor where she pulls them along with her dodgy leg.
Mr LW managed to find a load more carp in the loft for disposal over the weekend though, so we have no less than FOUR pink recycling sacks outside!:D The binmen are going to love us!
My new pain-relief gadget has arrived; it's a sonic device, a sort of safe-for-amateur-use, domestic version of the sonic treatment I had from the physio-terrorist, which did help, but you only get eight sessions, then you're sent on your way. I'm now desperate enough to try anything bar acupuncture.:(
My tinnitus-relief gadget (over 20 years old) has turned up it's toes; luckily, there is a similar machine on Amazon, and I have more than enough vouchers from online surveys to get it, so that's been ordered.
*sigh* I think it might be simpler if someone just shot me.
Posi-vibes, healing vibes and coping vibes as required are in a neat pile on the table - help yourselves.
Oh, and re Excel - I'm pretty good with it; and Mr LW has given courses on it, never mind attended them, so I'm another resource if anyone's desperately stuck - if I don't know the answer myself, I can consult the Oracle.;):D:D:DIf your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Accounts up to date, first load of dog bedding on quick wash, second load about to go on and third load will then go on. Thank you for posi-painhealing vibes for Dog everyone, she's a bit subdued today but still hopped about when I took her out for her first walk. Honestly, if people saw her at that stage of the day, no-one would know she's at death's door. Wretched tumour.
Ionafan About the dictionaries: I recycled my mother's Italian, French, German and Spanish ones via a book recycling bin in a supermarket car park a few years ago having hung on to them for as long as I could live with them. Now, I wish I'd donated them to the local library as they accept donations of books, which I didn't know at the time. Even if they do eventually have to sell them to clear their stack, at least you'd know the money would benefit that local library. Alternatively, do you have an adult education centre locally that teaches languages? I can't think of any way you could sell them for what they're worth.Better is good enough.0 -
Hi there. I'm in again this week, although - I think - this is my first post, I have been busy! Been working the last two days and been really busy, trying to give/get more treats for the residents - and they did enjoy all the Easter Eggs and games!
I've cleaned the bathroom and kitchen today, tidied our bedroom, and the second WM load has nearly finished. OH has been sorting out some gardening and techie jobs, and I've just written a couple of cards to post as we are now going out and treating ourselves to lunch and some new container plants fom the local garden centre.
We'll then go and get some shopping, including more wild bird food! They are still ravenous as we are still full of frost here, although the sun is shining. We have two regular robins now, lots of bluetits and the thrushes have returned, after quite a few years. We used to get loads, but their numbers sadly dwindled.
Good news about 'new' cat! He is, at last, getting used to using the cat flap, which will benefit him so much! (even though he doesn't know it!).
Good health wishes and good vibes all round, you all sound really busy!
Honeybear - I read your post about your poorly dog with tears in my eyes. What a sad time for you - our treasured pets are family, and can often be closer to us than a 'human' relative, and the grief we feel can be overwhelming. Big hugs to you. R x0 -
Forgot to mention! I'm another Family History geek! I use the Genealogy package and pay for the yearly subscription as - certainly last year - it gave me access to loads of areas.
About 5 years ago I gave a 'talk and slide show' to my nearest relatives on our dad's side of the family, I got back to a great, great etc grandad in the 14th Century.
My mum's side was more difficult as, going back only two generations, I found that practically all the men had the same first name!! Dads, brothers, cousins, uncles!! It was so hard to decipher who was who!!!
I'm currently doing the Family Tree for relatives of a cousin who died sat year, and have already found that she had an older brother who died at birth, who no-one seems to know about.
Good hunting, R x
Edited to add - I meant the Ancestry package.0 -

(((Hugs))) to you Honey Bear and a gentle stroke to Dog. It is difficult, isn't it? - I went through the same with my 15-year-old dog a few years ago. I still miss going for walks with him.Honey_Bear wrote: »Ionafan About the dictionaries: I recycled my mother's Italian, French, German and Spanish ones via a book recycling bin in a supermarket car park a few years ago having hung on to them for as long as I could live with them. Thank you for this. I am donating a few of the more ordinary dictionaries to a local school which teaches German, if they want them - if not, I shall take your advice and go to the library.
This morning I have sent a list of all the more specialist stuff (law, finance, commerce, technical, building, marine engineering - you name it, I've probably got it ) to the secondhand buyer at the university bookshop. Received an out-of-office reply because he's on holiday, but I can wait. I don't expect megabucks, but anything for little effort on my part would be good. My friend has also asked for 5 off the original list, which I will take to her when I next see her.
Shopping done and put away, phonecalls to make now, window cleaning next, then lunchtime, I think! Then I shall bake.
Or maybe I can persuade DH :A to take me out this afternoon to enjoy the sun0
