Welcome to the weekly Flylady thread. If you need help organising your week when it comes to housework, or just the motivation to do the dreaded housework tasks you have to do, come and join us, hopefully make it a little easier. You never know, you might start to enjoy it!

Thank you to Dusty for last week's thread :D

The tasks list isn't a must do, just an encouragement. There is a level 1, 2 and 3 with level 1 being very basic it has been requested that this is just one task per day. Level 2 in the middle, up to 3 which is more advanced and time consuming. If you want to do level 2 you add the tasks on level 1 with the level 2 tasks, if you want to do level 3 you add the tasks on, easy peasy. Choose a level to aim for but be realistic, if you’ve got a busy day on or are just starting etc aim for level one, if you get higher then great, if not then not to worry its only suggestions. Every room comes back around next week. Trust me some days I'll only be doing level one myself.

THESE LISTS ARE ONLY SUGGESTIONS AND NOT A MUST DO LIST, ALWAYS WELCOME TO POST AND FOLLOW YOUR OWN.

A few of the basics before we start the week

Hotspots are any areas which if one thing gets put there, loads of other things follow!

Daily routines are anything you need to do on a daily basis like washing, swish and swipe kitchen and bathroom, ironing, making beds, vacuuming high traffic areas, making meals etc

Night-time routines are all things which make getting ready in the morning easier, preparing clothes for the next day, making lunches, swish & swipes of the kitchen and tidying the living room before you go to bed plus personals like shower/brush teeth etc.

27 Fling Boogie - stick on some loud music, grab a binbag and whizz around the house finding 27 items that can go out with the rubbish, recycling, for charity shop, basically anything that will stop it cluttering your home.

Swish and swipe means have a quick wipe over an area such as a sink or toilet to prevent the build up of dirt. This is usually done on a daily basis
HHE/HHC/HHI Half Hour exercise/challenge/ironing ... run around for 30 minutes to the Benny Hill music frantically cleaning exercising or ironing.. other music may be used if you prefer!
5GC five minutes gardening.. make it lovely for your spring flowers and sowing

Ok here goes this week

This week as the children are off school I thought it would be nice to do a little list for them so they can get involved and help the parents...feel free to change it in your own list to whatever you wish! but it has to be nice.

Usually we continue doing this ourselves and feeling unappreciated for the hard work we put in to keep the house looking nice and safe for our families and it would be lovely if the young people would be kind enough to help.. So.. if you are under 16 then the green lists are yours!!!

Killer Kitchen - Monday April Fools Day :D
Level One

Clear and wipe work surfaces
Level Two
Sweep and Mop the floor
Wipe the cupboards, appliances and all those manky corners!!
Level Three
Defrost the freezer if needed!!
Wipe over all those small appliances.. don't forget the inside of the microwave!
Wipe out the icky parts of the fridge and have a quick check for what needs restocking.. I'm sure those of you who are parents have locusts off school!!
Extras
  • Clean oven/hob if you really really want to.. *rolls eyes*
  • HHI ..
  • Clean windows and sills
  • Treat the pets for fleas!!!
  • Go play a game with the children who have helped you today!!
Childrens list.
  • Clear and wipe the table
  • Load the dishwasher (DW) if you have one
  • Can you fill the washing machine (WM) with things that are all the same colour and switch it on?? This is a very important thing to learn.. many big clever daddies struggle with this job.. even our daddy.. so if you can do this.. you are cleverer than him!
  • If you are a bigger little person could you wipe over the fronts of the kitchen cupboards and fridge/freezer/washing machine.. sometimes you need to check the insides too as they get a bit sticky..

Mad Tuesday - Living room, Hallway and Stairs
Level One

Remove clutter from floors, chairs and fireplace
Level Two
Vacuum floors and sofas
Sort that under stair cupboard.. make sure everything is in tidily rather than thrown from a great distance!
Dust those flat fluffy surfaces
Are there any DVd's/Videos etc you can rehome?
Level Three
Vacuum under the furniture you can move
Clean windows, pictures, mirrors and any other glass like things.
Clear a hotspot
Vacuum hall and stairs
Binbag dance.. Get a binbag.. fill it and bin it!!!
Extras
  • Wipe woodwork in the hall and stairs
  • Wipe front door.. inside and out!
  • HHI.. get that mountain gone - or if it is too big then maybe make a huge dent in it!!!
  • I think the children who have been most helpful today should decide what you are having for dinner.. and that doesn't mean a takeaway.. we will consider that for the weekend if you are doing a fabulous job!!! Maybe if they are big enough they can help or better still cook for you!!

Childrens list.
  • Sort out all the shoes.. make sure there are 2 of them all and put them nicely on the shelf or in the box. Encourage the person who has the most to get rid of a few pairs they never wear!
  • Oh.. I think you'll like this.. everyone gets a carrier bag.. and spends 5 mintues running all over the house putting rubbish in it.. not other peoples things just rubbish, scrappy papers, junk mail, used envelopes and things like that.. after 5 minutes we weigh all the bags and see who has the heaviest bag. The winner gets a treat (and so does everyone else!)
  • Pick up all your own things from the front room and put them away in their homes
  • Water any plants in the house.. I'm always forgetting.
  • If you are a bigger little person could you vacuum the floors once they are clear of stuff?

Master bedroom & landing - Wednesday

Remove and wash bed linen and duvet covers.
Level 2
Dust surfaces & make sure no cobwebs..

Sort 10 things from your wardrobe (or someone elses) that you can get rid of..
Clear a hotspot.. or spend 15 minutes clearing one.
Clean windows in these rooms
Extra tasks list, as usual choose one or more
  • 39 fling boogie time, go on grab a bag and clear that clutter
  • Clear a box of clutter from the landing
  • Clean a radiator or two.
  • Clear the top of a bedside cupboard/chest of drawers or shelf
  • Freshen up the curtains if needed
  • Bake us a cake please mummy!! Or Daddy.. he can bake cakes too! Are we having it with custard or ice cream?

Childrens list.. As it is parents bedroom today I thought you could do a few jobs around the house which would still be very helpful..
  • Clear and wipe the table
  • Collect up all the dirty laundry from upstairs and plop it in the laundry basket!.. NO clean things please!!
  • Can you fill the washing machine (WM) with the sheets from mummys bed?
  • If you are a bigger little person could you spend 15 minutes tidying or vacuuming on the landing.. whatever needs doing.. I am sure there is a job that you can do that would be greatly appreciated!

If they are able the children can vacuum their own rooms!! I would say 7 is grown up enough!!
While the children are home.. go through their wardrobe and get rid of everything that no longer fits.. as they are being so wonderful and helping they can try the things on so you can be sure before moving them down a child or moving them on.

I'm going to be in this week but working from my own list as the house is spotless except for 2 wash loads that need to be done :D

DD goes away on Tuesday and I still haven't even thought about what she's taking except for buying her a new travel toothbrush and some new tops as grease marks/tomato stains "mysteriously" appear as they go through the laundry cycle . Guess what Monday is bringing? Yep, provisional packing to see if we've forgotten to buy anything  Then probably a mad dash to Mr A's to get anything missing :rotfl:

Right now though my bed is screaming my name so I'll catch up tomorrow. Night all

Thank you for last week's list Dusty and Natty for this week's.

Good. Some of the things that Super-Flying today didn't include are on Monday's list, so that will neatly square off those unfinished bits.

One of tomorrow's tasks is to have another shot at Hot Cross Buns as I discovered that even on the lowest setting the oven kills all the yeast when trying to prove them in a 'warm draught-free' place. They smell and taste okay but they look a bit small, slightly dark brown and are just a tad dense - as in the texture of a brick.

    Happy Easter everyone.
    Better is good enough.
