Daughter leaving home......

you seriously saying that your spoiled little princess has thrown a hissy fit over a drink? which you aren't sure was full or half drunk, and bro using headphones which were lying around?
You are making your son buy her another - and apologise and grovel and get punished...........WHO is overreacting here?
I may get flamed but my opinion is that you spoil your DD and your poor son ..................I feel sorry for him.
You say you treat them them both fairly - doesn't sound like it to me.
I don't hear of a dog or cat for son, or lessons for him - in fact all you say about your son is that he was in the wrong! for drinking something from the fridge???????????was it labelled? were the headphones labelled?
I would say let the spoiled princess go (with dog) and pay some attention to your son - because you just may end up losing both of them.0 -

:rotfl: My mum had 2 teenage daughters with only a year between us ... every so often she'd get a black bag and give us 5 minutes notice!
Another option would be to dump everyone's stuff on the dining table, then if it's not been put away by the time the meal is ready, it goes in the bin outside. If that means coats, etc. get binned then the teenager can retrieve them from the bin and wash them, or use their own money to buy another.52% tight0 -

If they're in-ear ones perhaps she doesn't like the thought of someone elses ear wax on them?
But in seriousness, we don't know what headphones they are and they could be very expensive ones which also tend to be the most fragile and perhaps brother has broken some of sister's stuff before, or she just thinks that he might, or that she's just protective of what she regards as hers which I don't think there's anything wrong with.
I know with regards to certain things I own or have owned my view has always been if I break or lose them it's my own damn fault, but if someone else does it then I'm none too happy, especially if they've broken/lost them without telling me they've taken them in the first place.0 -
I've just had a runaway 17 year old for 4 days. The school intervened (his parents wanted him to come home) and had some meetings between him, parents and the school where they drew up a contract. He agreed to go back home with the contract in place.
Maybe a contract would work in this situation? If all of your children knew exactly what the rules were, and punishments were decided beforehand for infractions such as borrowing without asking, or leaving headphones lying around where they might be borrowed or chewed, then she might feel that life was more fair.
I'd have loved that when I was a teen, instead of feeling that no matter what my sister did my parents would never punish her.52% tight0 -

I'd have tried... My mother called me Mrs Flounce for most of my teenage years. The annoying thing is that she still assumes that is how I behave 15 years on!Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
