  • Now brother in law is 40 this year - says he wants to go to athletics in London and spend weekend up there - he's not added another day - looks like it may get quite expensive - I don't even do this for OH or children's birthday so feels a bit of a cheek that BIL is asking. He's starting to mention the London eye (with an 18mo and 6yo?!) uh oh. OH said to him that we will need to know costs so we can save - but I've said we may not be able to do all he wants. We've still got a holiday in summer to try and sort as well. Just a bit annoyed as he has no kids and lives with MIL so low rent - but we've got to think of the 4 of us. Thinking cap on for cutting costs now and careful negotiations to be had I feel.

Okay... this is where YOU become more important than other people. Fare enough spending a little something on his birthday but he is 40 AND STILL LIVING WITH HIS MOTHER!!!!...It's be a better birthday present if you buy him a "When You Moving Out of Home" guide book...

At a push you pay for him - not his children!!!...( Use http://www.daysoutguide.co.uk/london-eye for BOGOF on tickets on the London Eye...)

I keep thinking that with my DFD in sight I can "let" myself have a treat now and then - hence the Italian trip... then an at home birthday party funded by yours truly ... but sometimes I think I am letting TOO much in as a treat.. so I am not fitting in a lot of things this year - being debt free is more important.

You NEED to set a budget you and OH are happy with and say this is what we are giving you - BIL should be grateful and happy he is getting anything - you should not be dictated to as to how much you give. You said yourself you wouldn't even for this for your own partner and children - why is BIL so special that you have to start saving for him??

Like you said - cap the spending - he should be grateful for what he gets ...:p

    Good Luck though...

Yeay stationeryspender, the more the merrier :j I'm working my way through my current challenge (which is actually kat's 2013 challenge) but I thought about starting my own diary next year when I have to leave mama's nest and sort the final year out for myself (although I know she'll be cheering along from her debt free sidelines :))

Ooooh you moving out for your final year?? Are you not staying with Mama until the end of the year??..
Bouncyminky (I LOVE that name :D), there are lots of 2 for 1 vouchers for things to do in London over the summer (including the London Eye). London's expensive as a single person so as a family, the best thing you can do is plan plan plan! I'll have a root about and see if I can remember where I saw the vouchers and let you know.

Such a loser I am - just saw this after posting a link to the website you mentioned - great minds think alike...; - )
I'm spending a few unplanned days with my friend

    Special friend???;)

  • ......Just a quick one while I wait on DH getting out of theatre with his new hip....

Car was a write off - had to buy a new car
Have had to buy a couple of wee things for the house
And this month at work there has been a wedding & 4 birthdays

.......sorry I have let the side down....

Oh deary me! What a week you have had eh? You haven't let the side down - you cannot be responsible for another persons health and the repercussions of what is a very serious operation... car's need to be replaced all the time ( was it second hand?).. and I get the feeling there is no way you could not get one...?... seems like with everyone's birthdays and especially weddings April is a very expensive month...

Stick with us though... keep the little things in check ( food) and we will see you through to the end.

I will not lose anyone yet...

  • Hello. Heading straight for the naughty step. Did a food shop with no list or meal plan and i shamefully spent double. After the weekend i will stop and take stock of everything. Have been celebrating a new job and got carried away!!! L2B.x

I am always intrigued how much people spend - go on spill the beans what classes as double..? You have done well with the new job but I am worried that you have not received the new job wages yet... However... it's so easy to not want to bother with a meal plan now and then.. hope you got something yummy to celebrate though that's made it worth it! :T

  • Well I am bidding a good night to you all.. I have scored an SFD...I spent £2 something, on Friday buying yellow sticker yummies for dinner ( vegetables to balance the sugar intake over the last week) and shall update the signature tomorrow.

Managed to save the entire food budget for my brother arriving ( eats like a horse) .....

Lovely day had today with a girlfriend scheming great and many schemes... Early morning at a garden centre with her again and then back to the house to pack up a few boxes.....

    What joys...:rotfl:

    Onwards and Upwards!!!

Bouncymnky - London prices cab be cut down. When we went you could print ff a form online an this got a BOGOF on the London Eye using our train ticket in. I can't remember the site but have a google as there were other offers too.
Also, i believe if you ask your MP has to give you a free tour of the Houses of Parliament - might b a thought. And you can get free tickets for th asking for the "putting away f the rooks at the Tower". So here are plans you can mak to reduce the cot considerbly - hope th helps:o

  • Am loving this fighting voice!! Soon you will get to the point where you will physically hate spending ANY unnecessary money at all and you will morph into a complete miser like me. Enjoy the journey my little Katepillar...:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Prob have quite a way to go on that one! I still have trouble turning down a good deal...i need to remember the bigger picture. Overspent on food budget yesterday but all were yellow sticker or offers, and ended up staying at the houseparty & not going out afterwards so overall yesterday was a lot cheaper than expected.

Learning2Budget congratulations on your new job! Am guessing you aced the interview then.

    Happy sunny sunday Everyone
