It is my 40th in two weeks. Sadly, I am not having a party as my invites would be around five people...not too worried though as my husband is taking me to the David Bowie exhibition at the V&A. Family will also be coming to a few drinks at the local pub and i will be treated to a clothes shopping spree!

I have to admit though that my life is not where i would have hoped at the age of 40. I imagined i would be sunning myself on a tropical island by now...

That sounds like a lovely way to spend your birthday nzmegs. Hope you enjoy it.

I had a ladies only soiree at home. We had lots of pink fizz, canapes from M & S, and did lots of games on the big trampoline in the garden. The girls were all wearing posh frocks and heels, and I had a professional photographer to take photos. Then we had a buffet and danced to 80's music, it was brilliant, and one of my male neighbours still talks about all the ladies bouncy bits as he watched out his window!!!!!:D

Just after my 39th I was really depressed about the impending 40th. I was divorced with 2 young lads and had just split up from a guy I'd started seeing. I decided I needed to do something positive and ended up doing a tandem skydrive for charity to mark my 40th...and raised £1300 for Marie Curie in the process.
I also got my belly button pierced and then went white water rafting :)
Never done anything like that since but wondering what to do next year for my 50th to top that!

Good on you for raising so much money for such a worthy cause. Marie Curie nurses are so valuable, they made a huge difference to my friend and her family when she lost her dad last year.

Me? Nooooooo...I just take a few snaps!

But thanks for your kind comment :D I did get a few good shots on that trip, but then again, I did take 1700 in total. Strike rate of decent ones was about 5%

OH & I went to Barbados for my 40th. My actual birthday was on a Wednesday so we did an Island tour and it rained all day! The evening was spent having a lovely meal, got a surprise birthday cake which we shared with the lovely people we met at our hotel.

We left our dd's at home with my parents and did a family meal when we got back.

My 50th is next year, not sure what to do yet, have a holiday or a party. My dd's are all adults so could just repeat what we did for my 40th.

My OH is 50 in May, he doesn't know but we're having a surprise dinner at home with his parents/sister/bil coming along.
  • It's mine ad my friends 40th this year. We decided we wanted to do one thing big so the week of her birthday in May we are going to London and taking part in the moonwalk in aid of breast cancer ( her mum died from the disease in her 40's ) and then for mine we have tickets to see robbie in Manchester on my actual birthday - think we will remember both birthdays :-)

I am not having a party but may have an afternoon tea with lots of cake and wine for close family and friends.

I'm really hoping my life gets better in my 40's :-)
Been stupid but have no regrets starting to slowly sort my finances now the kids are growing

Night out in London. Considered karaoke, but just opted for champagne pre-dinner drinks followed by a cocktail bar and then fancy dinner with a medium size group of friends. Should have eaten sooner in the alcohol cycle was the lesson learnt that night. Great fun though.

I nearly opted for the Northern Lights trip, but decided the late nights/early mornings were a bit much for the age my children were at the time, since I wouldn't have wanted to do that without them.

Also accompanied a friend on a NY trip for her 40th.
