How did you celebrate your 40th?

OH and I were both born in the same year. Neither of us wanted a party but we wanted to do something together, just the two of us, as we don't get a chance very often living so far away from my parents.
Parents looked after the girls for both weekends. For OH's we went and stayed at Le Manoir (Raymond Blanc's restaurant) which was out of this world. For mine we stayed at The Bath Spa hotel. OH was so good on mine, we did not get a chance to use the spa facilities on the Sat and I did not want to miss out so we were up and used the spa before breakfast, it was lovely.
Now I just need to find a good reason to return to Le Manoir...0 -
I didn't want to hit 40, dreaded it, so celebrated my 39+1 insteadIf it has tyres or testicles, it's gonna give ya problems..

On my 40th I spent the day with my parents and darling monsters....
The week before I had travelled down from Scotland to Leeds for a birthday weekend arranged by a friend, we had a super night out with 20 friends, took over a hotelhad a super night in some of Leeds finest drinking venues
then a super breakfast, I am not sure that they expected 20 of us to arrive at brekkie at same time

I went ice skating
It's quite a long drive away, and nobody else ever wants to go, but because it was my 40th I could stamp my foot and say that's what we're doing, and if you don't want to celebrate with me I won't be offended

Me too - we stayed in the Chelsea Hotel and at the moment of me turning 40, we were in our favourite theater, watching Burlesque and we walked/ran back to the hotel in the rain [which is quite hard with high boots on] and he took me to my fave restaurant for lunch before we flew home the next day. I went to Vladivostok. Via London, Cologne, Warsaw and Moscow.
The Trans Siberian Express. Cost me more than I paid for my last car but has made memories (and three or four mates) that will last forever.0 -
I didn't do anything on my 40th in way of celebration as such. I'm not a party person anyway and having recently lost my mum I just didn't want even a family get together. I did buy myself, including money I was given, a really great gift of a good camera and I still love that.
Not sure what I'm going to do for my 50th which isn't that far away. I can't see myself getting away but if I did I'd love to visit Iceland, always wanted to go there. I'd also love to see the northern lights. We were in Barcelona, and rode around on the tourist bus all day. Although it was November it was nice and warm.
Now there is an idea. I love Barcelona. I have done that tourist bus. We had just left the lovely park they drive you through, looked back to take a photo and it was up in smoke. Oh wow that sounds incredible. Did you enjoy Moscow? That amazing city became my second home for much of the 90s.
