How did you celebrate your 40th?

I had a shared 40/18/16 party with my 2 sons, whose birthdays are 4 days either side of mine. We had a fantastic venue of an old 2 storey school and had quiet area downstairs with food & bar, and DS2's band played upstairs. It was fab!0

For my 40th I had a day with a load of birds. Bird of Prey that is. I spent morning flying owls and then the afternoon taking a Kestrel across the fields. Brilliant day.
For Scary Wife's 40th we went to Stratford races, we booked a table in the posh seafood restaurant in the grandstand and enjoyed all the races, it was an evening meeting so we stayed over night and wandered round the town on Sunday.
For my 50th I intend to walk the Camino di SantiagoIt's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0 -

That is a great idea, I am going to shamelessly steal that one
Just love your signature by the way, so true sadly :rotfl:The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.0 -

Wow what fab ideas.
My friend and I had a joint birthday party to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Society. People are so generous and we even had the pasties donated by Ginsters. Had a raffle and auction. Friends ran a bar. Raised over £1000.
For hubbies we flew to Inverness and hired a car for 4 days. Cos it was in May we didn't book anything and just picked a nearby B&B each night. Lovely weather and very friendly people.
Going to New York for friend's 50th in 2 years time.0 -

I couldn't afford to do any of them.
My 40th was a couple of years ago, I don't remember what I did. No regrets from me though, I have my family and they are great.
I am a little bit jealous
I definitely couldn't afford any of my holidays - these were all from my extravagant credit card daysStill paying for them now.
Our first treat when we're finished with our Trust Deed is a break to New York - on a budget this time. It'll be subway and walking - not the taxis we took everywhere the last time.0 -
Quietly.....there had been plans for a party like thing and a family meal out but my dad had a major stroke 5 days before my birthday and another 3 days before my birthday, so everything had to be put on hold.
My parents did however give me money to take the boys out for a quiet meal, not quite what I had planned but to be honest, my heart wasn't in it anyway, I was much too worried about dad.
As it turned out, the best birthday present I received that year was my dad coming home from hospital on my birthday (a big yippee to the excellent clot buster medication he received!)We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
I'm 'doing' Vegas this year for my big five ohhhh! Have been several times before (family live there) but this time don't have to pay for my kids! Bring it on!
When I hit 40 (seems 5 minutes ago), I had a party in France. It was wonderful! Spent the actual birthday on the North Breton coast with French friends. A couple of days later my American family flew over to France and we partied on down for a week - loved it!
Just re-read my post - think I need to grow up
Why would you want to grow up when you are leading such a fun, fantastic lifestyle. Keep going just as you are is my adviceThe best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame.
