I've been through most of the links to ebay items for cables (DKU-5, etc )that are known to work, but all the auctions are invalid. Also doing a search for the name of the item doesn't really throw up anything definite.

I have tried contacting some of the ebay sellers - and no reply (somewhat expected that...)

Does anyone have some active links to low priced cables that are know to work ? (Ebay, amazon or elsewhere ?). I've seen prices as low as £3 on ebay.

    Thanks

It is good to see the offer above, which could be an option. In my case I would also like to use the cable for other purposes and on other phones. There is a local phone shop and the uy there says he has a cable, which is the same as he uses for unlocking. But that is £8 approx (may be negotiable)

    Bump anyone ?

The only cable I have found that claims for sure to be used for unlocking using dejans s/w is :

    http://www.fonefunshop.co.uk/datacables/nokia/nokia_dku-5_cable.htm

    and that is £9.95 +p&p !

There seems to be a few on Amazon, but as always communicating with these sellers is a one way street - never reply !

    Thanks for the reply Ianh82.

I just wondered if anyone had bought a cable very recently from ebay or elsewhere as been successful in using it to unlock a bb5 phone using Dejan's software ? Although there are many links to ebay earlier in this thread, the links I have followed have been out-of-date/invalid. I have tried doing a search for the sellers and had no luck. When I try to contact sellers on ebay or amazon, none reply (so much for their good ratings!)

I have had a look at some of the ebay listings and none seem to specifically mention the number of pins or the ability to use for unlocking.

    Cheers

yes Nikki, there are many advantages to sim free phones. 1 is like you have stated and the other is when it comes to re-selling it when you upgrade. more desirable are sim free phones.

if you de-brand them so they run faster and correctly how the manufacturer intended, then it's even better!

I bought this cable the other day, which also comes with all the required software on it (the same one as in this thread) and I received it yesterday and managed to unlock my 6680 with it:

Here's another person selling a load as well

  • Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone was able to help me. I have a problem with I believe from scanning the thread is different from one that has appeared here before.

I'm unlocking a N70. I've managed to get a DKU-5 cable from my local dodgy phone shop (which has 6 pins btw - I think you can distinguish it from the other types as it is black and the USB plug is about 7cm long in total). I've hooked it up to the computer, managed to read the phone ok (data comes up on the screen) and I've managed to write the log.

That is - a message comes up "xxx LOG WRITTEN xxx" or something similar. Unfortunately when I go to the \psw\ folder where the log should be there are no files there! Consequently when I try to unlock the phone it doesn't work ("File missing" message).

Anyone know what the problem is here or how to fix it?

i think your problem lies with your cable. you generally need the full 13 pins to unlock and debrand. it appears your cable could not be transfering the data because it this issue. that seems to be the problem????

bb5 is the type of phone system (i believe) such as symbian systems on other phones.

    2) no, you cant unlock an N95 except via your phone operator - at this time. people are trying to crack them.

But the cable seems to be transferring some data back to the computer - that is, it transfers the data that comes up on the screen. Is the log data a different type of data / comes through a different pin?

Also the way I understood it was that pins 6 and 7 were for transferring data, the rest (8-13) were for audio signals.

Damn this is tricky. I'll try to track down a 13 pin one and try again.
