Got home to find my husband is chucking out a bookcase. I'm not too pleased.

:( WW hope it gets resolved.

The rain hath now cometh after a glorious bank holiday weekend. Went to the tip twice today and spent time in the garden tidying so things have gone out and nothing in.

    :) Morning all.

I've been extremely busy on my allotment over the weekend so beggar-all got done at the flat. Did a laundry load yesterday and will shove an iron across the work blouses in a minute. If I don't do it now, whilst they're still a bit damp, the next opportuntity will be late evening and I won't be wanting to do it then, for sure.

Allotment is in good order and some seeds have been decluttered into the ground. I also took it upon myself to breakdown a large appliance box which one of my neighbours had helpfully left, still made up, beside the communal recycling bin. Because they're too blinking idle to spend the few seconds flattening it, and then the bin men won't take it, and it'll sit there getting wet and dilapidated and annoying me every time I go past.

The idleness of so many people makes me despair of human nature. The recycle bins are beside the general waste bins. It's very little effort. But people will continue to ram recyclables into the waste bin until it's overflowing, and the other general waste bin, shoulder-to-shoulder with the overfilled one, will be completely empty! Too lazy to move two steps and lift the lid. Sheesh.

:o Sorry, pet peeve of mine peeping out there. I'd better get the ironing done; 10 mins should see it sorted.

ETA; 15 mins and it's now done.

    Lovely blue skies this morning.

My love of empty space has won, so the bookcase is going. DH actually thought we'd discussed it but we had talked about moving the books to a different place.

No painting got done so I was quite irritated by that, especially as I took DD out so she wouldn't get in the way. DH started too late and I underestimated how long it would take to get everything moved. He did chuck 3 items of clothes.

Once the painting is done, we can order the carpet. I don't want to get the carpet until then as we don't have too much free time these days and if DD is ill or anything else happens it would make daily life unmanageable.

I have washing in (still bedwetting) and the dishwasher on.

Spent the morning looking through another two doors of wardrobe and throwing out lots of pairs of trousers as I am now a size down.

One large bag ready to take to charity shop tomorrow.

Later this week I want to sort through a holdall full of disposable plates and cups and free up more space.

Boiled up a load of potato peelings and DH's chickens ate the lot so now all veg peelings can be decluttered.

When polystyrene beads arrive I want to sew a thermal bag which will save on fuel costs and take up less space than the slow cooker.

I have just been pottering around for the last couple of days.I am soooo pleased with how the house looks at the moment:very clean, very tidy,no "little messes" sitting around for days on end.
As you know,I still have wardrobes of "stuff" to be sorted, and that loft ,but at the moment, every room of the house has had a really good sort since I joined this thread, and, with my family under threat,it is staying that way :D.

I am,however, amazed at the amount of tat I still manage to find dunno[1].gif.For example,I mentioned last week that in the Welsh dresser we have in the entrance hall, I found a bundle of old newspapers.I am still browsing through them when I sit down in the evening, looking for the type of "human interest" articles that don't age. When I have finished with those, and donated the long-forgotten games in there, that will be a free cupboard space :T.

Yesterday I thought I would take a few baby steps in sorting out my clothes wardrobe.(The word "clothes" is used very loosely here).Thought I would start with something simple. This is similar to the wardrobe I have (can't find exact one online):
    http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S19029211/
And mine is only the first 2/3rds of this. For some reason this one looks like 2 units placed together thinking.gif

Now,when I first got it,my wardrobe used to be this tidy, too. Now,the drawers are so rammed with clothes you can barely open them without stuff falling out,so I just grab whatever is closest to the front.
But it is not only clothes. In the top shelf above the hanging space,I had boxes containing my boxes of mementos from when my 2 eldest were born:newborn bracelets, newborn hats, name cards, old nighties I used to wear for night feeds, feeding pillow.....Also unworn/never will be worn jumpers (as if I had tried to get organised one summer, putting winter stuff away.Must have tried to introduce a rotating system....).That shelf also housed all my cross-stitching stuff, unused for about 3 years.
On the shelf that the hat is sitting on in the link, well,I swear,it has a MOUNTAIN of clothes that reaches the coathangers hanging down:but not my clothes-they are clothes my kids have grown out of,but I don't have the heart to throw out.On same shelf is gift-sets of toiletries I have been given by inlaws over the years.I am working my way through them, but I will need to live til I am about 500yo to get through them all .
Immediately underneath that bench,is a clear tray that can be pulled out.It is divided into little compartments to hold small items such as scarves,jewellery,make-up,etc.Well,it is years since I have needed to pull it out, because I can't use it!Mine is overflowing with such oddities as teeth left out for the tooth fairy(each tooth in individual envelope with child's name and date on), little notes from my children, letters to Santa, badges gained from visits to Santa by 4 kids over 12 years,pocket-money for kids...............
I definitely didn't start sorting this tray out yesterday .
    So,yesterday I sorted:
    - the top space (moved winter clothes to loft. Most have never been worn -gifts,appreciated,but unworn). Some I will donate, wonder if it is worth trying to sell other pieces. Some so threadbare I will recycle
-the floor space (where white basket is illustrated in link). It contained a couple of pairs of evening shoes-I am not a great shoe lover, and, from the kids,a couple of years worth of notes and cards and pictures "to mum".Those have been put in a large underbed storage box and put on the freed-up shelf at the top.2 prs of shoes put out for recycling,2 prs neatened up.Cross-stitch also stored here, but may move to Welsh dresser when it is cleared of papers and forgotten games.
And that was a whole afternoon.

It was lovely to wake up today,a day off ahead of me,knowing that I didn't "need" to do anything (cos all the mess is hidden :rotfl::rotfl:).
Was able to run a few errands without worrying about the state of the house.(For years I have put things off until the house was "perfect".Can't justify going out for a day....can't justify spending an afternoon just reading a book....can't justify he time to go out and pay bill/browse a library etc because I should use the time to tidy, clean, sort etc.).

One of the errands I ran was to donate 2 huge bags (the ones that charities drop through the door) of egg cartons (plastic and cardboard) to a local greengrocer. Not sure what they use them for,but they do appreciate them.Unfortunately I only drive through every few months,so they do clutter up my utility room for a long time!Still rather that than them go to landfill

This afternoon nearly caught up on ironing (I iron school uniforms only).Might finish that before I go to bed.
My 5yo's teacher was very excited at the suggestion to offload lots of plastic containers and lids to her,so will also gather those up).

Still haven't been to charity shop.Am not sure when we will get the car back from being repaired, but when we do,a big carload will be leaving the loft.:T

  • elona well done on moving a size down! And well done on letting go of clothes that no longer fit too... That's a step I donot find easy to commit too often, as I think I will one day alter things to fit. It is encouraging to hear that you got rid.
I had thought myself of maybe making a 'hay box' type of slow cooker with polysterene beads, so I would be very interested in hearing how you get on.. had thought of using polysterene from old packaging from electrical goods, (rather than just hoard it for NO PURPOSE, which I do at the moment!) but the beads sound an excellent idea...saw one recently on Am***n but too expensive just to buy when I have the sewing skills to make one..but would I use it ? I have used proper hay in a tea-chest to make a huge pot of soup before and that worked really well. You just heat everything up to boiling, then wrap the pot with the insulation material, its lid on of course, and let it 'stew' all day.
Was back to work today after a few days off, so very little dehoarding was done, apart from getting rid of some grey with hair dye before I went off to workt his morning...but maybe that doesn't count!!

    evening all,
seems most of you have been productive. me im not quite sure. spent most of the day trying to wake up, and i thought id had a decent night sleep, obviously not lol.

then spent this afternoon marking out my walls with pencil marks and masking tape ready for painting. then filled in all the little bumps and dents, inc the large ones hubby made taking stupidly placed wall plugs, then sanded down the small ones that dried rather quickly, the bigger ones were still a bit damp so left them. will do them tomorrow and fingers crossed start painting.

now i am suffering with a very bad headache, so going to go sleep it off, i really hope what i have been doing for the past 4 or 5 hours is going to be worth the headache lol.

while going through the hall cupboard the other day i came across some egg ornaments, by ardleigh elliot and sons, masters of palekh collectable items. always forget about them till i sort the cupboard out i have put them away in the last time i tried to sort through stuff :rotfl: and as usual sat down at computer to see if i could find anything out about them, but as usual, i couldnt find a thing.

so i decided to contact an auctioneers place and ask their advice about these items. as i said to hubby they wont come out im always afraid the would get broken if i put them out. so will consider selling them. first i thought i wonder if i could get maybe 20 each for them, then thought doubt ti be lucky to get a fiver. then knowing my luck someone will snap them up knowing something about them, thats when i thoguth baout seeing if they are actually worth anything, i would have thought id be able to find something, anything out about them just by doing a search, i normally can, but as usual with these i found zip.

so sent the email asking if any light could be sent on these item please. on checking my email earlier, i had a reply, to contact the russian art department. giving them pictures and details, with a list of details i should include like any marks, signatures, measurements, artists name, etc.

so i have just spent the last few hours, taking around 70 detailed photos, trying everywitch way to get them to load but too many to send in one email, so having to upload to picture sharing and sending the links, i hope this way is ok, as i would have been sending around 10 emails or so to get them all to them. and i didnt think they would appreciate that

i cant really see them being worth all that much but would be nice to know.
they will be going either way, only difference would be how they would be going. will hopefully know within 3 weeks as theres another local bootsale, but their email said can take up to 6 weeks for them to get back to me.

i think im going to finish my cuppa, take some painkillers and see if i can get rid of this headache and go to bed. hopefully i will sleep better tonight. not sure if i should bother listening to the radio to go to sleep like i normally do tho. they changed my radio station  , i used to listen to real radio, but heart bought them out a few years ago or something, and its not their usual portfolio, so as soon as they could theyve changed the station, all presenters except the breakfast duo, jagger and woody, the guy at drive time for home time, jase, and the one guy thats on weekends only now, brooksy, have all been changed and i cant decide if i like the new ones yet. usually about now they do the 3 am club where the listeners say what they doing awake at this time of the night. but they not doing that and it feels like all the personalisation they had has gone out the window. i said on their fb page about there being a saying somewhere about not fixing whats not broke, and i had people agreeing with me. and seems they had allready lost a lot of listeners within the first few hours of airing this morning, especially when they done an interview with a celebrity, i think, but you could tell they werent in the same studio like they used to be.
give it another day or so and see if i get a connection, but i been listenign for 13/14 years since the station started, and i cant see me coming round to the changes that easily :(. but at least the music hasnt changed too much, yet.

    sleep well, night all xx
