Delurking just to comment on saving memory stuff for kids. I had two big old-fashioned metal trunks, one for each of the kids, and their memory stuff was kept in their own trunk. When they got a bit older they used to enjoy going through all the 'treasures' and laughing at their primary school paintings etc. As each of them moved into their own home they sorted their trunk out and threw most of it away! I was saddened that they threw so much away but pleased I had saved it so they could choose what they wanted to keep. If I were doing it now I would have a plastic crate each - metal trunks are more expensive now!
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

We had to leave early today as DD had an appointment. I didn't think I would manage anything in the house but I did manage to put the dishwasher on, so I felt really boosted by that as we left.

Tomorrow, DH starts painting. I am glad the day bottomed out on Monday because we changed our mind about the colour of the walls. I am very excited about the painting. It feels such a positive change - the room has always been my least favourite in the house.

Advice please - I have a pan drawer that I keep all my small pyrex casserole bowls in. They are getting very elderly & scratched & chipped so I'd like to get rid of them all BUT I use them in the oven, under the grill and in the microwave so what do I replace them with? Any suggestions welcome please. I'd like something that is quite hardwearing & I'm at a loss :(

:) Would it be possible to just replace them with newer Pyrex, which hasn't got so knackered-looking? I do know what you mean, having a casserole dish in just such a condition.

I often see the middling and small sized lidded Pyrex casseroles at bootsales and chazzers (got mine from such places) very cheaply. HTH.

GQ - Thank you -Yes - just done a googly search & can't find anything that is better so I'll just bin the tatty ones & have a look round the CS's & see what I can find. Lakeland do some vitreous porcelain but its quite expensive (for me at least) & they don't do a 1pt size anyway
I also had a look on fleabay but nothing there grabbed me either

Could you just get the sainsburys metal tins currently on offer with v v long guarantee, brilliant quality, and keep just one favourite pyrex one to tip things into for the microwave? I find things cook much better in metal and so so easy to clean. Just my opinion x

Well all my bags of stuff are off to the CS in the morning :T
Also brought a black bag full of stuff home from work today, Was setting up our house corner and also our small world corner to our new topic today so was able to have a bit of a clear out of toys and play clothes aswell as baby/doll clothes. So they've been popped into the wash now along with some other things to be freshened up and will be going to the CS in the morning also.
Have made some good space in the store cupboard for none the less more s**te that my teacher will buy/bring in from home. Yet she's the one who complains about the lack of storage and mess:mad:

Have a few dress up clothes that once dry will need sewed then they'll be coming back up to work with me in the morning. So I'm doing well both at home and in work:rotfl:

The too small Toy Story bike has been passed on to my Aunt's niece (her hubby's side of the family) along with some too small fancy dress costumes so the porch is now navigable without tripping up and I cleared up the bits of broken, de-natured old bucket from outside as well. Made me feel a lot better.

There is lots of great work going on around here, isn't there?:T

rosieben this is exactly what I do.I keep too many pictures,drawings,art-works,pieces of homework,school-books,etc,that my kids have produced. Each child has their own box (eldest 2 are onto their second boxes).I have visions of handing it to them when they leave home.Am sad at the thought they might just throw it out-I could never do that, but I would like them to take it with them when they move out :rotfl:.
I wish my mum had kept more bits of my childhood.I used to spend hours writing stories, and making up my own games (I used to be a "nurse",and would write up notes for imaginary patients, etc. It would be lovely to have some of those notes now, nearly 40 years later:
"Mr Bloggs is in hospital because he has a saw (sic)
finger,His tempiture (sic) is 680.He can go home
    tomorrow.Signed,Nurse Bossy."

I have just been maintaining the status quo today.(Back to work after 4 days off).

Those charity bags that get dropped though the mailbox for donating to charity:I filled one with plastic containers and lids. All except one container was still in original packaging, never used .
I donated them to my my 5yo's teacher, and she did appreciate them,so that makes me feel good.I really must be a bit of a control freak-happy to donate stuff,as long as I can see exactly who is receiving, and what they are going to use my stuff for :rotfl:.
With enough subsequent re-arranging,I was able to retire to the loft one of the 2 wicker baskets that have sat on top of kitchen cupboards for years and years. So that has freed up space.

Will spend abit of time now browsing through old newspapers.Finding that hoard of newspapers in my wardrobe yesterday,to add to the dozen or so I was already wading through has made me wonder if it really is a useful exercise.I am simply browsing 3-4yo newspapers (used to buy papers, esp on weekends or holidays) that I never finished reading.Of course,3 years in,I am just browsing for "human interest" stories, that don't age.
But I am starting to think that really,if I just chucked the rest out without looking at them,I will not lose sleep wondering what I have missed....I will not wonder what articles I have missed out on....I will never look around my house and wish I had something interesting to read....
Might end up chucking out a 2ft tall pile of papers, unread .

Yes, throw the papers. You can look at stuff online anyway.
