Re: newspapers. I never buy papers or magazines anymore. A friend of DH brings weeks worth of newspapers over, I used to plod through them through guilt because he saved them for me. The time wasted annoyed me. Now I cut out the crosswords and the rest of the papers go in the recycle bin. When the crosswords are filled in they go too.

I love reading how well you are all doing, so inspiring. Just off to unload some of my old clothes now. Thank you all.

DH is still painting. DD has already been in and put her hand on the wet paint! We had been discussing the dehoarding thread yesterday and we decided we'd keep DD in the house as we redecorate so she learns. Argh! The only way we could keep her away from it was to give her a new paintbrush and let her play with some water in the bathroom.

DH usually does the cooking so I thought I'd have a poke around in the cupboards to sort out tea for today. Once I started, I couldn't stop. I found enough leftovers from previous meals in the freezer to make a sausage casserole with 3 different types of sausages. It looks yummy. There are also enough roast potatoes and yorkshire puddings left over from roast dinners to have with it.

In the cupboard, I found a box of eggs that had been hiding for weeks. I did the water test and they were okay so I used up the rest of the coconut from the impossible pies at Easter and made a batch of cakes.

I spoke to my brother earlier, who said he had friends coming over for a meal today (nothing special), so I offered him some apple pies that I had batch made and stuck in the freezer. He was pleased and popped down for them and took a packet of mince too. You know, there is one in every freezer - a pack of something that you keep putting aside because you've thought that you must use it up so many times that you can't even look at it any more. As he entered the kitchen, his eyes lit up and he said, 'ohhh, cakes'. I made him try one because they are quite fussy eaters and I didn't know if he'd like them. There were two trays on the cooling rack and he has taken on most of them. I had one tray left in the oven (or he'd probably have fluttered his eyelashes at me for them too); guess what I nearly burnt!

The bottom of our (small) freezer now has quite a lot of ends of packs - a single serving of fish and so on. I think at the weekend, when DH is working, I shall see what I can transform into meals to use them up creatively. I feel a fish and potato pie coming on. I used to have a great recipe for fishcakes but I'm too lazy to make them. Although perhaps I could make the effort. It struck me today that DH and I aren't making so much effort with each other at the moment - we are a bit quick to snap.

I have made a chicken, parsnip, pea, carrot and onion pie for the weekend. Looks yummy. It was adapted from one of weezl et al's cheap family recipes website.

I also made a rhubarb and orange crumble (using up flour and oats).

Found 3/4 pack of broken rich tea biscuits from an event earlier in the year. So I have to make tiffin with that in a minute. I will use up some nuts in it. Yummy.

Casserole is in. In theory, this will force me to declutter the table hotspot so we can eat at the table (and then I won't spill sauce on me).

I didn't think I'd be able to declutter today because of DH decorating, so I am pleased with what I have done.

I have quite a lot of tins in the store cupboard too. They can probably be rearranged as some have been used and other types of food have encroached on them.

It's windy and rainy outside. I could do with a burst of sunshine. I have a cup of orange juice from the clear out so maybe it will have to be liquid sunshine today.

afternoon everyone, hope everyone is doing well,

well, i finally managed to start on my painting yesterday afternoon, left it overnight to dry and been in there today changing over masking tape ready for my second colour.
no idea why but i can never just have 1 colour, always need 2 lol, and is there any where where i can find out why i alwasy seem to go for similar colours, hubby getting a bit fed up of the blue and yellow colour scheme in the bedroom, and blue in the bathroom, planning on burgundy in living room tho.

and i also thought masking tape was sposed to help when painting, but it seems im going to have quite a few touch ups to do just put the new masking tape under the old to try and keep the stright ish line then took the old off, and some of the fresh paint has peeled off even tho i tried being careful. yet i had to keep putting it back on as it was always trying to peel back off .

just thought id have a quick cuppa before going back in and starting on the second colour. havent made up my mind if im going to make a stencil or not yet have to see if i notice a swirl i like.
ive noticed what everyone has been saying baout old newspapers, ive only got 2. one with gramps notice in, and another i kept in the cupboard for when nieces and nephews came over to lay out when they done messy things. but they not been for a while now so i think ive put that one in the bin.

spose i should hurry up and finish my cuppa so i can go and get the rest of the painting done. not even sure if i got enough paint yet. hope so

DH did well with the painting, after another trip to get more paint.

I realised this morning that something I read on flylady was true. There I was thinking we were irritable because we were squashed into different rooms with furniture out in the dining room. But we were irritable because we weren't doing our normal routines. We weren't putting clothes in the wash basket routinely, or keeping on top of the washing or making our beds in the other bedroom. So this morning, before we left, normal routines in different places were done and life is a whole lot better.

Also, I did recently learn (or relearn) the value of doing things before the desperately need doing. We were going by the recycling so we took the recycling, even though it was only a boxful. We feel so much more like tidying, decluttering or doing one-off tasks if there is no psychological block of half-full bins/containers etc.

ww i think i know what you mean about getting things done as they need to be not leaving it till its deperate to be done, as then it seems overwhelming, i think my problem is, that ive never really had my place sorted properly since i moved in, westill had boxes unpacked months after we moved here. and instead of going thorugh getting rid of what was needed to be gotten rid of, i just kept it and found aplace for it, weather i had a place or not for it.
im feeling a little of that block you mentioned myself, as yes i think i have sorted out the room i have, but i have piles of things now in my living room, that are waiting either to be picked up or sold. hubby finally did the tip run yesterday after i been wanting it done for a week, and it feels better getting all that out, actually some of it went to someone elses house lol, as hubby was emptying it, she grabbed all the glitter for her grandkids, and home made christmas ornaments i had started and never got round to finishing. didnt think any one would want to buy them so just threw them in one the bags.
anyway getting that out made things feel a bit better, but i keep looking round my room thinking i need to sort it, but trying to just stick to the one room so we can get that finished, doubt im going to get it done today, so hopefully monday, failing that wed or thursday, im hoping to price up carpets, want hubby to be with me when we look, so will more than likely end up being thursday his day off. get a price, hope it doesnt shock me too much. might have to wait till the end of the month for pay day then to be able to get it, unless we can get some more stuff sold.

im helping my friend from cardiff for a few days at the end of the month, same next month and 2 wkends in june. same every year she owns a burger van and goes to events with it so i help out with the kids as they can be away all wkend depending what event they are doing. so failing anything else, it will be what she usually gives me for haveing the kids that will pay for the carpet. then i can move the bedroom furniture in from the other room. then start remvoing the dining room furniture out of my living room, so should have more space and hopefully i will start feeling comfortable again.

part of my problem was this hullabaloo rubbish with my family the other day, whenever things like this hapens, i start not sleeping properly, constantly feeling tired, constantly feeling angry, and in general, very down about myself and my life. but i am trying not to let it bother me, but unfortunately as soon as the lights are out, im constantly mulling over everything all the time, and thinking of things i wanna say, but never do so i dont offend or hurt anyone. just hope my minds a bit calmer when i have to go down there next couple of weeks.

well my wall should be dry enough for another coat by now, just hope i can get rid fo that marker pen it looks like the previouse tennant wrote on the wall with, doesnt show through the darker paint i used last time, but its coming through the lighter paint ive used this time.

    :) Afternoon all.

I'm on my day off work and have been out this morning to take a bag of stuff to the chazzer and drop my prescription into the GP and went shopping for fruit and veg and for a charity shop browslette.

Have got an unworn pair PJs for brother (with tags) and a Long Tall S ally blouse for me. Some of their stuff is OK but I don't like buying new clothes so dropping my hands on that item for 50p was good.

We're having a day of on/off torrential showers which had made the no-allotment decision for me. Truth be told, I've either got hayfever (do you get a cough with hayfever?) or a cold and could cheerfully just curl up and sleep the day away.

But I am beyond weary of having an undone sewing project on my sofa since Easter Monday and am remaking the curtains I got from the bootsale. They're cotton & polyester with a 50/50 poly cotton lining and are labelled Dry Clean Only. I don't harbour such things so washed them twice to shrink them (the lining and the top fabric shrunk at different rates as I knew they would) and have separated the two, pressed them, and have both narrowed the width and shortened the length and am now re-assembling the front and linings. It will be several hours' work altogether, but will give my little sitting room a lift.

Trouble is, the sitting-room is my only place to sew, the room is only 9 x 12 feet, and I'm doing an elabourate dance with the sewing machine table and the ironing board, so everything takes a bit longer than it would if I didn't have to keep taking things up and down.

Ne'mind, I'll get there in the end and will tell myself that the results of the fresh 'new' curtains and the re-found sofa will be worth it.

:p But it's blinking tiring, all the same..........

We did a car boot sale this morning, made about £40 after expenses which wasn't too bad considering the weather was showery and we had to keep covering up the wares, plus there was a distinct lack of customers. Now going to see what we buy books will take and the rest goes to a charity shop. It's not going back in the loft/garage/spare room wardrobe anyway!
