new toothbrushes in, old ones out
preloved coat for dd in, old one out
lid of container found, that will go back to MIL
I also have got some xmas presents bought and wrapped, so old cardboard tubes and packaging stuff out
Made some old cards into gift tags and managed to use up a lot of old pieces of ribbon. The gift tags will be distributed amongst family to use.
Recycling will go to the recycling centre tomorrow:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
grass cut, some weeds, and the non-productive pumpkins removed and bagged up - a bit of sweeping.
ds's and my clean clothes away. dd's not - but tomorrow is another day. Some vacuuming, some stuff into recycling.

Can't usually achieve it, but understand the theory, anyway.
Went to the lottie this afternoon, as this morning was a dead loss due to no sleep overnight. Gawd, but I love my neighbours - not! Anyway, got up there in the end and it was a glorious day.
Bramble Island has been savaged down to a mere hummocky atoll of grassy chickenwiry horribleness, all alone in a sea of turned earth and looking just a wee bit vulnerable. Reckon two more hours' graft and it will be no more, mwha ha ha!
Got out the wadge of chickenwire trapped by one end in Bramble Island ans discovered that it's not connected to the big chickenwire bogie in the centre. Folded it up small to tuck in the sharp ends and stood on in to make it flat.
Once Bramble Island has been conquered 3/4 of The Rough will be gone. And I shall turn 180 degrees and set sail for Tarpaulin Island. This is an approximate triangle, one side being 2-slabs wide against the patio and one side against the grass path and the other against the cleared part. It has a roll of chickenwire but I'm almost certain this is just sitting on the top, plus a slab plus flowerpots and the eponymous tarpaulin, most of which is buried. Gee, that'll be fun to unearth, but out it will come.
Prolly another 6 or so hours to get that lot sorted.
Took a half-bucket of misc rusted hardware, plastic and glass out of the soil today, and binned it, plus went to the tip as a detour on the way home with the chickenwire and the leccy toothbrush. And here's a funny thing. It only takes me about 10 mins out of my way to swing by the tip but I nearly chickened out as was feeling a bit tired and CBA. Then I recalled I'd posted that I was going to do it, so I must do it, hey?
Funny how sharing your misadventures with a bunch of friendly strangers on t'web is an encouragement.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I know I've not been on in a little while, but things have been relatively productive nonetheless and this weekend DH decided to help out, which was lovely. Managed to declutter 4 bags of various tat and have added lots to the carboot / eBay pile. Unfortunately however, this was mostly from our bedroom (which I thought was mostly alright, but still isn't finished even after all that
) and we haven't even made a start on the room of doom! Having said that, I think it opened DH's eyes to how bad things had become and he's offered to help a lot more. Things are decidedly nicer and more hygienic in the bedroom now, there's absolutely no mildew or mould to be found - although there are still 3 boxes of tat to sort through and dispose of, as well as my dressing table and jewellery collection to sort out
All in all, things are coming along nicely... but we desperately need to keep up momentum as we're a long way from finished and I can see things becoming worse than ever if we stand still for too long. Money is really tight this month so the decluttering debts side of things has come to a bit of a standstill, but I'm hoping that being organised in my home will help me to be more organised in other areas as well as possibly giving us some extra pennies from carbooting / eBay. It definitely improves my mental health and general motivation when I wake up to a house that doesn't feel like the world's most cluttered prison so it's worth it for that alone.
I can't sleep due to horrendous heartburn, so am going to catch up on the thread and on some of the fabulous dehoardifying that's been happening in my absence.
GreyQueen - It sounds as though you're doing amazing work in the lottie and I hope that the rest of The Rough isn't as challenging as you're expecting. Please look after yourself and take a break if you need to, although hopefully your hips are feeling much better now. I know what you mean about sharing being an encouragment to do more / stick to the plan - I often find I'm a lot more motivated to get through what I've committed to doing once other people know (even if they're internet people)
lobbyludd - I'm another one who's guilty of struggling to put things awayHopefully getting into a routine of doing so will make things a lot easier, I'm planning on starting a quick sweep round the house before I go to bed to make sure that I don't wake up to yesterday's mess.
Whitewing - I love how that you have Christmas presents ready and wrapped already! I've bought a few but am nowhere close to the wrapping stage though, please can you send me some of your motivation?! I have a feeling I'm going to need it this year... I usually love Christmas but there's been a lot of family drama between various relatives this past year and I'm expecting a baby in December so I'm feeling a bit 'meh' about it all.
Pigpen - You are a complete inspiration - I don't know how your house can be anything other than a minimalist showhome with the amount of flinging you do! Your local CS must be very fond of you too. Hope DS1 had a lovely birthday.
Thrifty Fashionista and lobbyludd - Noooo, you've tempted me to watch the 'housewives of doom' programme now, DH will not be pleased! :rotfl: I know what you mean though, these programmes often remind me that money defintely does not guaratee happiness (or good sense)
Roundtuit - You are definitely doing ok, keep telling yourself that! It's hard when you're at the beginning of sorting things (especially with a full time job) but things are going to get better, even if it takes a little time. Having said that, you seem to be racing though, so I'm sure you'll be there in no time at allThe idea of giving away your 21 year old DS's Duplo made me smile, it's only a couple of years ago that I realised Nana had kept all of my old care bears room set on the off-chance that I might want it. In fact, I think my little nephew has it now, it's got to be nearly 25 years old!
kayster - It sounds as though you're blazing through, keep up the good workPAD: £4843.10 (loan paid, yay!)

Howdie,
Not de-richarding house as such at the moment, in fact kind of the opposite as buying in food stuffs for the winter as been lurking on the 'prepared for winter' thread, also car stuff, bulbs,batteries......the list goes on.
Haven't entered the pink room for days as leaving it until in the right mood to be ruthless and organised. Have kept up with my sorting/cleaning plan so far though other than 3 cardigans thrown on the rocking chair and the cleaning kit.....but have been very good by my old standards in general.
Where I need to de-richard is the garden!! I haven't had to garden before and have no clue about it, as had a shared garden for years until now. I need to de-richard grass and weeds, and i'm assuming the annual plants get taken out and thrown?. I am going to have to dig out my old plant books as don't even know what some plants are, and maybe hop onto the green fingered section for a read up.
I did google cutting grass (I do know how to do it)...as everyone's grass over the summer here was going bald and brown. seems I did the right thing by not being so vigorous in my gardening style, as mine is nice and green (and a bit long again now) and only one small bald patch. The people round here were giving theirs a number 1 haircut it seemed every few days so it was just getting scorched and dried out. Anyhow....the garden novice/slob has won the day on the green affect so far....lol.
So, the plan is to focus on the garden on days off if that counts as de-hoarding in any way.
GreyQueen how big is your allotment?......i'm always visualising something the size of the average field for some reason....you certainly are doing some hard labour there anyway, well done and good luck with it, makes me sound pathetic as mine is tiny.
Good luck folks, just popped in for a read really then ended up posting.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
Morning all. Flying visit before work.
Calicocat, my lottie is 300 square meters and The Rough is about 1/7 of the growing area exc the paths.
It isn't so much size of the area, but how badly it had been let go, which is a metaphor for home-based clutter, isn't it.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

You have no idea!!!
We have 12 charity shops in walking distance so when one bans me I can go to another.. also having lots of 'volunteers' to take stuff they don't know it is all from me.. thank goodness!!
The thing is most of the stuff I send to CS is stuff the children have outgrown so it is replaced with more stuff only bigger so taking up more room! There was simply no storage in here so I am gradually sorting through it all and buying appropriate storage.. everything is in boxes piled on the landing and on top of wardrobes etc.. it just looks so messy.
The children barely have any toys now, the little 3 have 5 tubs which is having a cull before Christmas because there is no where to store more and they cannot and would not play with most of it.
I really would LOVE a minimalist home.. I guess I'll have that when they all have left home and then I'll be sad.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Afternoon all
I have been catching up and feel all motivated again. I did throw out one bin bag of stuff and shred on bag of papers over the weekend. The last time I was on I said I would sort some magazines etc upstairs but didn't get around to it. Oops naughty me.:o Anyway as soon as DS wakes I'm off upstairs to remake the bed and sort the mags. I promise.
Actually I think I have changed a lot recently. I was walking around B and M earlier and was getting more and more annoyed with the junk and clutter in there. I would go mad if it was brought into my house now. What's happening to me?
You all have been so busy I feel a little ashamed and lazy. But we all need a rest now and then.;):o
