DD is due to get married next summer she will be 33 then and has said she wants a child, I'm not a pushy granma to be am already a nana just don't want her to leave it to late. DD has been in the same job a civil-servant since she was 18 and wants to carry on working for a few years before trying for a baby. When I mention her (body clock) and once you get to 35 it fast-forwards she just says stop going on about it mum women have babies on there 40s all the time, should I just keep my mouth shut and hope all turns out ok?

I had my DD days short of my 33rd birthday. I thought that was fairly old but since then a friend of 38 has had a little boy and a family member is pregnant at 37.

Of course if your daughter leaves it late then find out she has fertility problems then that could spell disaster but I think women having children later in life is beginning to become the norm.

Yes, keep your mouth shut. I am sure she is intelligent enough to take into account the pros and cons of having a child at a later age.

Plus, you really shouldn't use 35 as a benchmark, fertility is down to the individual. I am 34 but would be far more likely to conceive now than when I was 30 because of improvements in my health.

Yes. You've already mentioned her increasing age and declining fertility, and you can be sure you'll not have been the only one to raise the issue! If she wants to discuss future family plans with you, I'm sure she will.

For goodness sake, poor woman! No wonder women get neurotic about the whole 'body clock' thing with people and the media harping on and on at them!

33 is no age at all, and I'm sure she is quite intellegent enough to know her own mind.

I am 40 in a few weeks btw and expecting my second child. I have been told I am extremely healthy and that you can be chronologically young with old insides and visa versa.

I was 32 when I had may first child and 35 for number two. Your DD will know when the time is right.

I never heard my body clock not even sure if I have one lol but we had been together for 15 years and it just felt right.

I think one of my under-laying problems is the females in my family have had an early menopause cann't go back to my mother as she died at 27yrs but my sister was 37 and I was 41 when we had our change. Does anyone know if an early menopause runs in the family? My daughter had problems as a child with her kidneys only one was working but all has gone well since. I suppose I do what all mothers do is worry that's our job.

Statistically, early menopause is linked to late onset of puberty. I've no idea whether this is an inherited characteristic or not.

And I agree with everyone else, you've mentioned it once now, and that's once too often, so it's time to keep quiet about it.

Yes keep your mouth shut she's planning her wedding for next year - and you're already mentioning a grandchild!

She might be incredibly fertile when the time comes, and if not there are plenty of options for them. You will only hear horror stories in the press.
