How important are holidays to you?

Holidays are important to me but I am happy to modify my expectations to suit budget and circumstances. DH and I have always enjoyed city weekend breaks but we have limited these since having M as being to costly and to much of a faff. Last year was the first time we haven't been abroad in the 13 years we have been together. We still had 2 holidays to Cornwall and Surrey and weekends in Blackpool, Cheshire and London. We had a great time
This year we are going to Majorca (our first time) after Easter and will do something else later in the year. I have to have at least 2 holidays a year and if they have to be camping, I would rather do that than not go. We are hoping to do some camping weekends this year if we ever get any nice weather! Both DH and I love to travel and our son enjoys it too. We have taken him to Italy a few times now and also to Spain and Morocco. I would love to take him to Florida - one day...
My dad used to like a holiday but my parents only went once a year and never went abroad. I think my dad would have gone but my mum never would. After Xmas dad used to order brochures from the TV times and mum would humour him and go. She wouldn't have cared if she never went although enjoyed her days out.'Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain'0 -
I don't think its that important we went for years without having one and even now our holiday tend to be going to visit my dad. I struggle in different beds and get little sleep, anything more than a week away from home and I get irritable and just start looking forward to going home even if we are busy and really enjoying ourselves. Its whilst everyone else is asleep and I cant get to sleep I think I just cant wait to go home and have a good nights sleep.
We are only having 2 nights camping this year and then just days out - we do a lot of days out. This is because we are saving for next years holiday which will be on a boat on the Norfolk broads, then 2015 we are planning Copenhagen, which will only be the 2nd time we've taken the kids abroad and the last time was to a wedding in Ireland - there is just so much to do and see in this country.
Copenhagen is a great city and very child friendly so I'm sure you'll have a great time. It's one of the few places on earth I visited and thought "I could live here"
I am waiting on the outcome of a job application there at the moment but it will be months before I hear anything.

Very, but I class a 'holiday' as different.
We enjoy the odd night away to visit friends and luckily have friends scattered over the country so we get free accommodation.
We're going away in a few weeks for 2 nights but got the rooms in the travelodge sale so are only paying £30 for 2 night.
As it's my birthday weekend my parents are paying for our petrol, my brother and sister in law are paying for us to go to the snowdome (we're skiers) and my other brother is paying for us to have a meal while we're there. All it will cost us is breakfast and lunch for 2 days and I'm so excited
We'll fill our times just looking around the local city as it's gorgeous.
Every summer we also do a week where all our friends book the same week off and we take it in turns to cook every night for the group and spend the week going to the beach, the pub (possibly won't be doing all day drinking sessions now we have LO, lol) and local attractions like the zoo. Theres no accomodation costs, we all take a picnic lunch every day and we only have to pay for 1 or 2 'dinner parties' a week. Done it for the last 2 years and already looking forward to this year

“We travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us.”
I love travelling-the cheaper the better. I penny pinch on every single item in the houe-ie hand wash /toile paper / charity shop clothes so our day to day costs are the minimum so that we can have lots of adventures around the world. Research says that positive experiences build self esteem and memories where as material goods are forgotten so I avoid anything materialistic and lots of lovley experiences!
I wouldn't like to tell you the holidays we have booked this year it would be embarrasing! but I research every single detail and for less than people pay for 2 weeks in spain we have amazing long holidays.
Ps Holiday pirates is lethal!
I agree, I will always find the best price for my holidays I am horrified when I hear how much people have paid for the same place as me as they just didn't look properly.
I heard about holiday pirate on the holiday board on here the other week, there was a 14night break to Florida for £425 each, I was tempted if it hadn't been an at inconvenient time for me work wise!0 -
Very!
I start looking forward to next years holiday while on the way home from the current years:rotfl:
Pure fun.No housework. No cooking. No washing (stuff that-suitcases of as many outfits as possible).Splurging without a care in the world:o No need to use phone or computer...priceless time that can never be replaced and allows you to just live without consideration and stress for a while
Me and ds have at least a week away each year and I would never stop it..increase it maybe but it is rather expensive:rotfl:If women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -
I'm also really surprised sometimes how much people will pay for holidays, - or rather a particular type of holiday.
If they can afford it, then good luck to them, but there are certain things i just cannot justify.
I think people pay ludicrous prices for cottages in the uk,- i'm thinking of cornwall in particular!
Friend just shelled out just over £1000 for a cottage in cornwall for 10 days in july.
For our holiday in spain in august, we have got flights, apartment with pool, and car hire for around the same amount. I know people have different priorities but i would never pay those prices for a uk holiday.
I know for a fact that the three main holidays we are having this year is coming in at less than the price that another friend has paid for her two weeks in italy!0 -

Eek!I pay more than that for a week at Haven (although bumped up to 10 night for an extra £50 this year, which is pretty good):eek:If women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -
Holidays are important to me because I see it as quality family time away from everyday things and household chores. Itd doesn't matter where you go too much, the children don't really care if its only 10 miles up the road as long as its something different. Sad though writing this as I don't think we will be going anywhere this year....due to lack of funds .0

I don't like staying in other people's homes, I like the anonymity of a hotel, I don't even like B&Bs I feel like I'm staying in someone's house.0
