How important are holidays to you?

Been thinking about this after reading another thread.
To me, holidays are super important. I love taking the kids away. We like to do a few weekends away throughout the year and I am so glad that I have found MSE to help me achieve that.

They are important to me BUT not to the point that I would get in silly debt
We are going on 5 this year which is the most ever but 2 are being paid by someone else0 -
I love holidays, but haven't had one for years because we just can't afford it or want to spend on our house.
Hubbie used to live for holidays because he was in a job he hated. Now self employed doesn't seem so important.0 -
yes, very important - but they are more a few days away than a fortnight at a time holidays.0

Not massively. My sister practically dies if she has fewer than 5 foreign holidays a year, lol.
We haven't been abroad in over 2 years. Have had a couple of weeklong holidays with relatives and a few weekends away in the UK.
Having said that, I'm now planning 3 foreign holidays in the next 18 months, plus more for 2016 and 2017!!Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -
For the past 7 years I haven't had a holiday at all; I've been in and out of hospital or looking after Mum, and that's the only time I've been away from home. However a recent bereavement has caused me to re-evaluate things, given that tomorrow can be stripped away with no notice. Got a holiday to Malta booked for June and possibly a few days away at Christmas with a friend somewhere like the Canaries, with a big holiday (once-in-a-lifetime) planned for summer 2014. All of this is dependent on the finances stacking up, of course."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000

I wouldn't say they are "important," but they're nice to have.
We try to go abroad at least once a year, but if we "miss" a year, it's no big deal.0 -
Extremely important. But a holiday to me can just be 3 nights in a caravan, camping 10 miles up the road or a weekend in London.
So far this year we have been on a Livingsocial special (luxury hotel in Norfolk, amazing) and a few nights away in a cottage with 15 friends. We have holidays booked for a week in the Isle of Wight as well as two caravan breaks. The caravan breaks came in under £100 each. We also plan to go to a festival, have a weekend camping in the nearby Peak District and have 1 or 2 night breaks in London and Stratford-upon-Avon.
People always ask how we afford to go away so often, but our holiday budget for the year is around £1500 including spending money (often we hardly spend anything when away as use National Trust membership, take picnics etc) £1500 is similar to what some people would spend for a fortnight in Mexico or something, but by spreading it out, we always have something to look forward to

We love our holidays. We are always planning our next one. We do weekends away and holidays abroad.0

Travel is really important to me...I enjoy my job and find it rewarding but I work to live rather than live to work and for me a big part of living is seeing and experiencing new things.
I know travel isn't for everybody though - my mother hates travelling and would rather have time off and just stay home. To me that would be mind-numbing and a total waste of time.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -
When I was single and in my 20's I would go on several holidays a year. They were really important to me and I enjoyed seeing parts of the world that many people don't get to see. Now, however, all we can afford is a couple of days away in the Lakes. As beautiful as it is I really need some sunshine!!:T Looking forward to the future :T0
