Being in a warm climate makes ahuge difference to my health, so in once sense a holiday abroad is vital - I feel the effects for several months afterwards. For long enough, too, I hated the job I was doing, so needed something good to work towards.
I won't go into debt though, it's all calculated and saved for.

Not important enough to spend more than I can afford. Definitely wouldn't go into debt for one.

My first post here, and I wanted to find an interesting thread and jump right in. Hello!

OH is in debt (just about to get out of it, but then we want to save for a house). Until then, big holidays aren't on the cards. I wouldn't say that holidays are important to me, but there are certain experiences that I do want to have.

I love Disney parks, so I'd like to visit one of those again. I also want to go on safari, and go to Iceland and view the Northern Lights. That said, I don't think that these experiences are worth thousands to me at this stage in my life.

I'm saving Tesco Clubcard points for a coach trip to Disneyland. I've found an English hotel that offers the 'safari' experience so that I don't need to travel to Africa, so I'll do that at some point, and Iceland can wait for now but is the one I'm going to end up paying for. I have quite a relaxed lifestyle, so I don't need holidays for stress-relief, but I do appreciate overnight hotel stays. Sometimes, it's nice to sleep somewhere new but it doesn't need to be for more than a night.

In future, when we have children, we'll probably make a point of going on holidays and paying for them properly. Whilst it's just the two of us, we're happy with an occasional drive to a hotel an hour away, for a one-night stay.

Interesting topic as my OH and I differ on this. I enjoy a holiday abroad, don't get me wrong but will happily do something on the cheap side, just to get some sunshine, whereas he likes to see different places which usually ends up costing us a fortune!

At least one holiday abroad a year is really important to him and I think it'll be a struggle once little one arrives, especially as he loves his gigs/festivals too. How did I end up with such an non-MSE OH? :rotfl:

Oh yes, I wont get into debt to go away, that would be silly and take the enjoyment out of it.

They are quite important to us but as others have said, we wouldn't ever get into debt to have one. We don't go out much and aren't very materialistic but enjoy saving hard for our holidays.

We are having a month away this year to celebrate our 50th birthdays and we are really looking forward to it.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Dh and I have both traveled a fair amount. He also travels for work. We go on few holidays mainly because of my health issues, but tbh, the only really important thing for us is time together. I miss travelling, seeing new things, visiting places I love etc, but the time with dh is the only thing that matters to me.

Not at all. Haven't been on one for about six years.
  • Never holidayed on a regular basis until my son was 6 months. Since then have holidayed in England every year.
Firstly Hemsby nr Great Yarmouth until he was 9/10. Then mainly South Coast area/ Isle Of Wight since.
Wouldn't do without it now unless it was unaffordable.
    Back on the trains again!
