How important are holidays to you?

Not important at all!! I do go away but only in the UK, had a lovely time in IOW last year and love Wales but I am just not a holiday person, perhaps if we stayed in hotels and got looked after it would be different but to me it's just doing the same things in someone else's house with inferior equipment!!Slightly bitter0

Holidays are the reason why I don't cut my hours. It seems to be the rewards for the sacrifices I make in my every day life. I think it is ingrained in me because my parents were the same. They worked full-time, we had long tiring weeks, but it was all made up by pleasant (rather than lavished) holidays and week-ends away. I accepted the demands of my weeks because I looked forward to the special week-ends and holidays.
I've realised that as an adult, I am just the same. This is why I found it so frustrating working full-time as a single mum because despite the exhaustion that came with it, I still couldn't afford the holidays I dream to take with my kids. I started being able to afford it 4 years ago and it is what keeps me going at work full-time.
Holidays are without a doubt the best times I have with my partner and children. I am relaxed, chilled out, and just overly happy. I love discovering new places and experiences with them. It is always an adventure.
My partner and I have taken the decision to pay over our mortgage so that it is paid in 5 years time. We will then have plenty of money to take trips further away. I can't wait to discover the world we live in. The only problem is my phobia of flying, but I know I will have to get over it because my dream is more important.0 -
Getting away is very important to me, I get 6 weeks of annual leave so aim for at least 4 holidays abroad, and a few weekends away in the UK. For me, a holiday isn't about lying on a beach in the sun though, it's seeing new places, new experiences.0

Getting away is important to us, we make sure I save enough money to get a fortnight in the sun each year. We usually go to his folks place in South of France and explore.
We don't really live a frivolous lifestyle month by month and would rather spend the money on having a total two week break than going to the pub once a week, or that kind of thing. We both have interests and hobbies that keep us busy most weekends anyway. It is our time to spend with each other, go site seeing, relax with out the stresses and strains of work, house and daily life.Dont wait for your boat to come in 'Swim out and meet the bloody thing'

Once you have children, I think they become much more important. You should be using them as an opportunity to introduce your children to different cultures and ways of life, rather than spending the same fortnight every year at the same high-rise hotel in the Costa Del Common.0

Some people just want to relax in the sun though, and what is wrong with that?0 -

Most def important but again not lying in sun for a fortnight- that would bore me. Take advantage of special offers etc to make the most of my money. This year got few days away in Mallorca planned with a friend of mine in April- flights £40 and same for share of apartment.
Then weekend in caravan in May with the kids- can drive there after school Fri night and come back Sun- cost £69- was cheaper to book direct than the Mail holiday
The biggie will be backpacking trip to Thailand and Cambodia in Oct/Nov. Looking max £450 for flight and accomadation will cost in region of £200 for 28 nights. So far less than many people pay for 2 week package in Europe lol0 -
I've travelled quite a bit - but most of it is through work; so I often don't get to see much of the place I'm travelling to. I think because of this going away doesn't often seem like a holiday; getting on a plane is like getting a bus tbh. I could happily stay at home - going away always feel like work.
We never plan holidays far in advance either, so I don't get the excitement build up. I'll pack the morning before, often not even thinking about it.
A good holiday for me is somewhere cold and desolate preferably with no internet access
I can't do the beach thing, I don't like the heat and I can't swim, but snow, glaciers and volcanoes make me happy

Love love my holidays.:D Always planning/researching the next one. We do a whole variety of things. We go camping in the uk in our folding camper,- wil be taking this abroad next year to france and spain.
We do weekends in the uk, and city breaks abroad in hotels . We do static caravan holidays in europe, abroad beach holidays, holidays with pool/ villa near the sea etc.. I could go on lol.
Would never contemplate taking my main hol in the uk. Love new experiences, food, different cultures and languages, and loads of places to see..
Off on friday for a weekend in hereford (groupon deal), then back for a few days and off to west wales in the camper.
We still have three hols left this year, and i have a weekend away with some girlfriends, and dh and i are going to a music festival soon as well.
Next year dh and i have six days away on our own as dd is on a school trip. Really excited about this, and are thinking about where we'd like to go already!. So many possibilities:D
Perhaps i should start a new thread to get some ideas
So in answer to your question op, yes hols are really important to me and my family:)0
