No. Your contract has nothing to do with the price you are charged (called the 'tariff'). Your contract, if you read it, will explain that the increases are allowed.

Give notice one month before your minimum term expires, and move elsewhere - but as they are all going up, the net difference will be negligible.

just received my price increase letter - going up 50p per month, which will make my plan £16.14 per month (light user) - but the good news is my contract ends on 6th March, so will check if any retention deals, otherwise get my pac code and sign up for Ovivo - as I have an HTC Evo - fab phone!

    Lucky for some!
Hope you manage to get yourself a good deal :)

    It has.
It sets the limits for tariff/price changes.

Hi, looking for some advice regarding a mobile phone contract i have. Ive had it since september 2011. I received a letter today saying there will be a rise of 0.99p. There telling me this is due to inflation. Am i able to cancel my contract without any penalty due to them altering my contract.

    Thanks
    Craig.

OP, so what does 99p represent as a percentage of your monthly contract payment?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Can't believe this is happening AGAIN. Renewed my Orange contract in October 2011, got told about increase in December (albeit it didn't take effect until June 2012). I complained about it, they never replied. I then complained about the lack of response to my original complaint (and they never offered me a 'best plan review' which they promised August 2011), so they finally responded and credited me with £40, which WAS nice of them to do so, but I felt it was a case of 'too little, too late'.

NOW these nuggets are at it again? The SECOND time in the same contract! My contract doesn't expire until October this year! I'm seriously annoyed and just want to cancel. Been with Orange since 2004 and been happy with them right up until the first price increase last year. Now hit with another. I can't afford to get out of the contact until it expires which is even more infuriating. No idea what can be done about this but one thing's for sure, I'm absolutely never going with them ever again.

    I will spell it out.

    THEY ARE ALL THE SAME

So if you are annoyed with EE, Orange or whoever and move to, say, O2, they will do the same to you mid term as well. None are worse or better than the rest. It's just that you happen to be with Oragne. Read the Vodafone, O2 et al threads on the same topic.

So, you could go PAYG if you like. That will help - but of course if you want decent minutes, expect to pay more per min. And there is always giffgaff or Ovivo.

But if you want to stay mainstream, don't go thinking the grass is greener on the other side. It's different grass, that's all. Same cows and bulls and same bull***t to swallow there.

The answer is not PAYG but one-month SIM-only contracts. These do give decent allowances and often work out much cheaper over a long period than a bundled handset and service, particularly with iPhones.
