That's a good point made above about the % increase being applied to the full £36 my contract should cost as opposed to the £28.50 I pay haing signed up through Phones4U. Must see if I can negotiate better deal. Still have about 18 months on my contract though.0

The answer is not PAYG but one-month SIM-only contracts. These do give decent allowances and often work out much cheaper over a long period than a bundled handset and service, particularly with iPhones.
Absolutely spot on!
I have two sim only contracts with virgin which cost £5 pm each and include call time, internet and unlimited texts which are essential for my daughter:)0 -
In the past there have been increases on networks of more than RPI, and consequently it was possible to cancel without penalty.
This increase is less than RPI, so guess what? No cancellations this time.====0 -
No great surprise - as long as they are allowed to do it they will.
Thankfully my 18 month deal is up in April so will use it to try and get a decent deal. If not then I'll move.0 -
In an interesting twist i got the letter stating an increase of 86p a month (ignoring the 40% discount i get), but was told that this does not apply to sim only contracts like mine and i should ignore it.
I asked him to put it in writing, and he sent me a text message to that effect.0 -

told by who?
I assume you called Orange CS?0 -
Utility Warehouse never increase the monthly charge during the period of a contract and are the only mobile operator to have signed up to the Which? Fixed Means Fixed campaign.0

I'd sooner put red hot pins in my eyes than take anything from Utility Warehouse. I'm pretty sure that talk about UW was restricted to a specific part of this site due of the very strong feelings about the organisation...not sure whether that has changed though.0

I will spell it out.
THEY ARE ALL THE SAME
So if you are annoyed with EE, Orange or whoever and move to, say, O2, they will do the same to you mid term as well. None are worse or better than the rest. It's just that you happen to be with Oragne. Read the Vodafone, O2 et al threads on the same topic.
Tesco Mobile (uses O2 network) have launched a 'no price hike promise' for monthly contracts...

Tesco Mobile announces commitment to fixed contract charges
as competitors reap £217m* of customers’ money in hidden tariff increases
Today, Tesco Mobile has announced a promise to fix customers’ contract tariff costs.
Its Tariff Promise is a commitment never to raise its customers’ core tariff prices mid-contract, the first move of its kind amongst network providers in the UK.
This makes it the only provider to pledge that the tariff price a customer signs-up to at the start of a contract, will be the same price they pay for the entire contract term at no additional cost to the customer.
Tesco Mobile has never raised its Pay-Monthly tariff costs mid-contract and is dedicated to continuing this.0 -
Well done Tesco
