  • It was a relief to read everyone elses problems as I felt I was going insane after spending hours on the phone sorting out three different mistakes that have been made on our account.
My first was the Woolwich debitcard being refused. Had not received any pin numbers for new barclays card. Had to come home from the shops and ring barclays to be told we could use our old woolwich numbers. This was Saturday morning. Off to the shops again, used our barclay cards with our old numbers and they were refused. Came home, now Saturday pm and banks closed. Rang and was told I had been wrongly informed and that the new pin numbers would be sent by Tuesday. I asked what we would do for money in the meantime and the very understanding man said he was very sorry but he could not help me. Tuesday number arrived. Same as old woolwich number and now it works. Very strange.
Wednesday. Remortaged with the Abbey and funds were paid to pay off my old woolwich mortgage and my offset open plan account which were lumped together as the mortgage then the remaining monies were paid into the offset account and the offset amount was debited again. This took two very long phone calls to sort out.
Thursday online looking at account and find that my cheque to the tax office had been retuned unpaid. Paid on the 31st June and had not been informed by bank or tax office. Phoned barclays. Another long call mostly on hold and told that I was overdrawn. I replied that I was not as I had an open plan off set account with £8000 still available. I was told that it was not coming up as an open plan account. So in the transfer I have gone from an open plan account to grossly over drawn without a letter or anything to notify me. This could not be explained and I am awaiting their investigation.

You can have a debit card on a saving account, the Woolwich used to issue one, the Co-operative still do as do Natwest, and some others. James

Any lnks to savings accounts with debit cards will greatly appreciated!

I currently have a Woolwich Card Saver which I think will change on July 22 and will be looking for a new account if Barclays do not keep the Visa Electron Facility.

I found the Woolwich Card Saver to be a great account, why do they have to muck up a perfectly decent product?!

I was unfortunate to have my accounts moved without warning to barclays in march well I was told 1 account would be moved as it originated from Belfast where I have not live for 22 years. went in to move some money form my account one day and all the woolwish accounts had been closed including kids and husbands who have never lived in Belfast. I was then escorted to the barclays branch accross the road as I had no id with me. NObody in barclays knew what was going on as I had no account no etc. During the tranfer my husbands savings went missing. Some of the sccounts where very different so I ended up losing intrest on my savings accounts. Internet banking was awful as was customer services. When my husband rang CS he gave them my customer number by misake told them what had happened ie wife no. I got a 2 page letter about revealing my personal details to a third party and therefore my accounts were frozen. When I rung customer services they gave me the same lecture I did say that it was my husband and yes he did have access to our money. In the end I tranferred all our money to intelligent finance so it will offset against the mortatge. One phone call to IF and the accounts were set up will no problem at all . Goodbye barclays will not be back!

Youngest son & I had an appointment at our local Barking Bank to find out why he did not get the chip n pin facility that he had with his Wooly a/c.

To be fair, the 'personal *anker' we saw was polite as she efficiently consulted her screen, by saying my boy required a 'regular income' for such a blessing as to access his own money where ever he would please. He HAS a regular income-has done almost since leaving school-& she would have seen that if her bl88dy computer would stop saying 'nah'.

What can the branch manager do if "it's our policy" to screw over the vunerable who won't cause a stink? I'm getting in touch with Head Office over this lot, & probably The Sun & Watchdog again.

I thought it was just me!! I’m being driven to despair by them! I’ve been with the Woolwich since I was 14 (9 years) and never had a single problem. Now this....

I was informed recently that they were changing to Barclays. Last month I moved house and I visited one of their branches to inform them of my new address. This morning I went into the local Barclays branch to pay in some cash (After queuing for 45 minutes) and the lady working there informed me that they had sent me a new bank card, but it had gone to my old address- even though I informed them a week before I moved. She said she had no record of my new address and said it must have been lost while the account was being migrated from The Woolwich. I immediately called the lost and stolen cards number to inform them and they said they had cancelled the new Barclays card which they sent me. I then went outside to use the cash machine with my old Woolwich card only for it to keep my card and give me the message 'card retained' I went back into the branch(And queued for a further 45 minutes) to find out what had happened and her exact words were 'oh yeah that will happen'. I drew some money over the counter; however this has caused major problems for me as I pay my bills by debit card. My phone bill was due a few days later, and was cut off as I could not pay it. I tried calling their call centres and when I finally got through to somebody who couldn’t speak English and was no help at all, so I called back and got someone else who could barely speak English again who was extremely ignorant, told me to stop complaining and hung up on me.

A month later and i've spent hours in the branch, hours on the phone and hours writing letters and i’ve got nowhere. I emailed a complaint to them, immediately got an email back saying they will investigate it and get back to me in 5 days. 3 weeks later and i’ve still not had a reply.

The sheer incompetence of them amazes me, so far they've lost sensitive personal information, sent my card to the wrong address putting my account at risk from fraud, hung up on me several times when i’ve called them, STILL wont send me a new card, wasted hours of my time and money trying to sort it out(lost at least £200 through having to take time off work to go into the branch). Not only that-My mobile is still cut off because I have no way of paying it other than debit card, I have items on Ebay which still need to be paid for after 3 weeks but cant because my paypal account is linked to my debit card (which they cancelled!) and the only answer they can give me is 'Sorry, there’s nothing we can do. The only option is to open up a new account with us'.

WELL SORRY BARCLAYS, BUT YOU'VE F*CKED ME OVER BIG TIME. YOU'VE MADE MY LIFE HELL THROUGH YOUR INCOMPETENCE AND TO HAVE THE SHEER CHEEK TO ASK ME TO OPEN ANOTHER ACCOUNT WITH YOU TO FIX THE PROBLEMS WHICH YOU HAVE CAUSED IS AN INSULT.

Anyway, rant over =o) I'm off to the Alliance And Leicester to open a new current account.

No, the Woolwich account I had(I think it was called card saver?) allowed me to have a Visa Electron debit card, but not Direct Debits

Have two accounts one with the electron card, which is why i opened the account, so barclays send me two replacement cards, both atm cards, the debit card replacement can only be used in barclays atms, was told over the phone oh you only need to go into the branch with id and they willissue you with a barclays debit card, so i did, heard nothing for three weeks called them yesterday and i have been refused as i dont meet the criteria, no letters or explanantion apparently what i have been given is satisfactory, really the electron card i used for online shopping, petrol, ebay etc and is acceptable at all atms, the replacement is not acceptable anywhere except barclays atms, they are not interested, told me they would log complaint - why bother, they are not going to do anything for me i have no mortagage, savings etc, finding it impossible to get a bog standard debit card, i dont want to borrow money or go overdrawn. How are they allowed to do this ? Barclays are hideous
