from what i see the chain of events went like this.
Last year when they (barclays) sent the letters out ... we were re credit checked even though been with woolwich for 10 years.
If you have a current account then you get either
1) Decent credit score, connect card with cheque grt.
2) Less so, connect card with no cheque grt (really an electron is disguise).
3) Bad , a cashcard.
I would be interested to know what other people have found, i think it is quite cheeky rechecking people, luckily we got the first, but its a bit cheeky.0 -
Its not that that is the problem - DONT WANT TO BE WITH BARCLAYS ANYMORE!
Want account with internet access and a debit card have les than £500 a month coming into account at mo! (and they have a call centre in England)0 -
We received a Barc. cheque book each today....no cards yet though. And a letter from Woolwich closing our account (to transfer I assume)....when do we get the new cards
I was getting a bit worried the cards had gone astray in the post so I went into the branch this lunchtime. Apparently there's been a delay issuing new cards because of them having to issue so many all at once. Our cards were only sent out a couple of days ago, so I'll give it a few more days and see if they arrive.0 -
What happens to the Woolwich easy access saving account? I ask on behalf of my mum who is still in hospital.
She is unable to use a cashcard due to her disability and is now almost unable to sign her name at times - as her signature varies so wildly depending on good/bad days.
The staff at her local woolwich know her - but I am wondering how she will access her money if it closes and whether her account is being transferred anywhere?0 -

On a related issue, I received my first Openplan statements from Barclays today. We only got statements for the mortgage current account and the offset savings account; no mention of the mortgage account itself, how much interest was added at the end of May, how much we've benefited by offsetting or most importantly what the next monthly mortgage payment will be.
Is this all I'm going to get, or do I expect a mortgage statement to follow in the next few days?0 -

We got our statements through yesterday and had the same issue. Very poor level of information compared to what we used to receive. If we don't get something else which includes benefits of offsetting and mortgage account statement we'll be complaining (and preparing to move to another offsetting mortgage provider).
NOT impressed with Barclays at all, Woolwich customer service was much, much better...
UPDATE 6/6/07 13.00 - OK, I just called Barclays on 08457 555 555 and spoke to Rajiv. I asked if/when I'd be receving the missing info from my old statement. He took all the details and promised someone would get back to me within the week. (I know he typed an email at least because I was on the phone for 5 minutes listening to him type...). He also asked if I'd like a mortgage advisor to call me, I said yes, as long as they can help with this issue. We'll see....
UPDATE 8/6/07
Good news! It looks like we will still get the monthly mortgage statements with all that lovely money saving info. Ours arrived yesterday and we saved £443 in interest this month (assisted by stoozing stash).
Still find that Barclays website a downgrade from the Woolwich one...0 -
i've got an open plan current acc and ive not heard anything about when im going to be changing over??
so at the moment im still woolwich!!
does anybody know when this will happen?0 -

glad to find this thread and realise i was not the only one who felt this way
i had an offset mortgage with woolwich for 5 years and was very happy with all aspects of things
the move to barclays was a big change
main gripes are:
i) when they transferred us they gave me a new sort code/account number - this meant I had to change all my credit card details with about 100+ websites [i am active with many bookmakers/casinos]
ii) they shut down the woolwich website without warning, i logged in one day then it had gone, barclays had failed to send me any new passwords for there phone or internet banking, so days without net/phone bankinng while i waited for them to arrive
iii) they stopped us being able to use woolwich branches anymore to withdraw cash, great when your nearest barclays is suddenly 20 miles from where the woolwich is
iv) barclays phone banking is awaful and takes them forever to answer even at 11 at night
v) debit cards from woolwich randomly stopped working at some point, the two on the joint account at different times
basically it's been as much trouble as switching bank with all my details changing, it's been a total nightmare and to be honest i am so peed off I will move to another bank
i have found barclays complaints depts at all levels to be useless - after about 2 weeks they right a letter confirming something you already knew. Complaints dept seem more interested in closing cases rather than resolving problems

My local Woolwich branch has been rebranded as a barclays. Can't see that lasting long as there is already a Barclays near by.
I remember my Woolwich kids savings account when I was a kid and getting my free Henry's cat magazine in the post every month or so :rotfl:
Long live The Woolwich!0
