A great brand and household name in the Uk is being killed off.
Woolwich staff are demoralised and on long term sickness or get "managed" to leave. Woolwich staff are not used to the hard nosed way Barclays do business.
I too will be leaving soon. Please bear with the Woolwich staff, they too are very upset. Especially those who get demoted or whose branches get closed down.0 -
On Monday two bank cards arrived both addressed identically and innacurately! We have the same initial for our first names so always have our middle initials on our bank details, cards etc. These both just carry the first initial and the surname, no middle initial, basically we have no idea whose card is whose!
In response to Bulldog's post above-the Woolwich staff were unfailingly nice and helpful, it is really sad to see the branch go. I wish you luck in your new venture.0 -
hi
i have a basic account with the woolwich and have my benifits paid into it. when they change my account to a barcleys one will it all be automatic or will i have to tell the benifits place new account numbers etc0 -

Well my transition has been smooth so far! Got my Visa Connect card last week, upgraded from a Visa Electron, and opted to have Additions Plus on my account too. The only thing im a bit miffed about is I had an Electron card on my card saver account with Woolwich, and Barclays have issued me a cashcard on my new flexible saver with them. They say they cannot issue a Visa card on their savings accounts, but I am going to keep on at them!
CC limits £26000
Long term CC debt £0
Total low rate loan debt £3000
Almost debt free feeling, priceless.
Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.0 -
hello,
well my wife and i have just had our accounts switched over and omg what a bunch of idiots, we have banked with the woolwich for quite a long period of time and had debit cards on our account.
we had lots of bits of paper and booklets coming through the door saying how everything will be the same blah blah just a name change blah blah, well our cards arived today and we have been issued with basic cash cards on our current account?.
!!!!!! we thaught so we rang barclays got through to some foreighn bloke who said no sir you have connect cards, i explained no we havnt and gave the card numbers, i was then put on hold for about 5 mins, then he came back and said you have cards waiting on the account and you need to go to the local branch and complete an application to upgrade your cards,
i said to him this is bang out of order, its not our fault that the accounts have come over to barclays and the cards should be the same as we had with the woolwich, he then said well we have had 100's of woolwich customers ringing up about the same problem and its because they all have bad credit and thats the reason why.
can barclays do this? is it not that they should issue us with the same bits as we had with the woolwich ? this is really annoying as i use my woolwich debit card all over the country and abroad and now were stuffed, we have got an account with the halifax with debit cards but iam reluctant to go back down that road as the halifax are crap, but what alternative have barclays left us with ? were going to the branch today to see what the score is, so if anyone else gets this problem please know your not the only ones.
ile keep you all posted0 -
I have an Openplan mortgage, current account and savings account with the Woolwich which is being moved to Barclays. I'm so damn glad the current account isn't my main account I use for day to day banking. At least if they balls up, it won't affect me too much, as I hardly use the current account and my direct debits are all set up on my IF account. In a rut? Can't get out? Don't know why?
It's time to make that change.

hi tina sorry its taken me so long to reply had alot going on lately, well we are all sorted out now, we wrote to barclays and complained, they quite promptly replied as i wrote the words , informations commisioners office, watch dog and the banking ombusman, (they were spelt correct in our letter) well about 5 days later we got visa connect cards through the post, a letter of appology, two bottles of wine sent via a courier which was a complete shock, they have agreed to refund my credit card charge, all parking and phone call charges,
i must say that my opinion of them has been reversed they handled the complaint fantasticly, ive never had a bank grovel so much in my life, perhaps thats either due to my wage, or the way the complaint was structured i dont know, but were all sorted now, i hope that any one else who is still having problems gets them sorted.
by the way if you have been given a barclays bank account, (which is a current account) it automaticly gives you entitlement to a connect electronic card which i thaught was an electron but its not, its a visa debit card with no cheque guarentee, go into the branch and see someone if your cards are wrong its the best thing you can do, they have given me a visa card even with a tarnished credit record, as they said the account comes with one regardless of your credit history, obviously if you abuse the card they will replace it with a dredit cash point card lol
to let you know we had a woolwich current account classic before the switch with electron debit cards.
thanks all

it all depends on what account you had with the woolwich before the switch
if you had:
savings account - barclays savings account
basic account - barclays cash card account
woolwich current account - barclays bank account (which is a current acc)
i dont know about open plan accounts tho:j:beer: :j0
