I've seen so many Woolwich customers coming to my bank to switch (not Barclays) because they are fed up with the changes
one lady I saw said her card was rejected in a shop and the sales assistant said it was happening to all woolwich cards
another lady I saw said her woolwich passbook can not be taken my barclays because their machines are not the same
not very good planning is there0 -
the saga continues !!
well we went into the branch and there was a que of people drawing there savings out and going to another bank haha, saw a guy in the branch who claims he is the manager not sure on that one, he couldnt understand what was going on the computer said that we had FOUR cards on the account, two debit cards and two cash cards, we explained that the debit cards dont exist and we dont have them,
after a few mins on the phone to someone, he said we will issue new debit cards, so we thaught fine, but when he tried they wouldnt issue as the computer was saying we already had them, lol what a nightmare
so the last resort he cancelled all our cards and has put them in the deletion que off there system, he said this will take a week to complete in that time our cards wont work, great, also he said when there off the system they will issue new ones which will take a further 7 - 14 days to get the cards so all in all we will have no bank cards for three weeks, what a complete bunch of mongs.
three weeks time we will prob get cash cards again.
edited: we have now sent in a two page long complaint about the whole thing with a log of who we spoke to, what they said and when they said it, also the other problem is my credit card is due to be payed by wed 16th by debit card and guess what no debit cards, wicked hey there now going to charge me a £20.00 late payment fee, which i have included in the complaint to barclays asking them to pay it, prob wont happen but its worth a try, we have reuqested a bank payment slip for the amount but that prob wont reach me until tuesday, then it takes about three days for them to recieve payment =( not happy with barclays what so ever.:j:beer: :j0 -
We received our new Barclays cards this morning, but no pin numbers.
Went shopping, our Woolwich cards didn't work and SURPRISE SURPRISE our new Barclays cards didn't work either!
My husband was on the phone for 2 hours yesterday to Barclays trying to transfer some money!
What a hassle.0 -
This has also happened to me today.
I rang the Woolwich help desk and they didn't even ask for any of my details - just said that there was a known problem with cards being cancelled before new ones had been issued, and apart from visiting a branch there was nothing that could be done. When I pointed out that it was Saturday afternoon and the branches were shut she said she was very sorry blah de blah de blah but there was nothing they could do.
So this got me thinking that whats required is some kind of people power....
So:
I've emailed BBC news
I've submitted a complaint to Watchdog
...and then it struck me to contact a national newspaper. Figuring I needed one that likes to make a meal of these things I contacted The Sun. I've spoken to a reporter who is investigating as we speak.
About 15mins ago I thought I might try ringing Barclays help line to see what they had to say on the matter.
They said: Ahhh yes - I can see the transaction you tried to make - it failed because your card is damaged. My reply? I was trying to make the purchase over the phone - my numbers must be broken eh?
At this point we went through the whole Them: "You can go and draw money from the branch" Me: "So are they open at 4.00pm on a Saturday?" conversation.
I'll be opening a new account elsewhere on Monday thats for sure.
I would urge anyone affected to at the very least submit your problem through the Watchdog site so that we at least don't take it lying down!

Hi
People power sounds good to me, how do I contact the Sun and who do I speak to. I'll e-mail Watchdog too, no problem.
Just a note on cards, when I asked how long it would be till we get ours, the reply was upto 56 days!!!! Edging their bets? I think so, will they make it, will it be the right card and more to the point will it work?
Something else of interest, a lot of you, like us have spent hours on the phone. Apparently if you get your phone bill and highlight the call costs you can claim them back from Barclays. I got this info whilst speaking to a customer service advisor elsewhere (not Barclays).0 -
Okay Folks
I've e-mailed Watchdog, it's very easy on their website. Spoke to The Sun who are collecting names at the moment. The more that complain, the more likely they'll take the story. It's easy, just goto The Sun website and click on Got a story, phone the number, speak to them and they take your details. It's got to be worth a go, we have nothing to lose!!!!0 -
Up to 56 days to get a new card?!?!
I'd be straight to the nearest branch of a bank other than Barclays to open another account if I were you
Better than that - apply to somewhere like Nationwide online.0 -
I am not sure if this is the right place for this question, but i currently have a Woolwich open plan motgage & associated account. I am remortgaging and it will go through this week. Does anyone here know if the bank account element stays open as i have received different opinions and it is starting to stress me out. The woolwich says yes, but my solicitor says no. - I know who i should believe, but Woolwich don't fill me with confidence!!
Oh also got a letter today telling me that my Woolwich account will become a barclays one on July 22nd!0 -
It's interesting that you have a date for the change over. We were just switched and only found out when I tried to go on the woolwich online banking and couldn't.
If you are moving your mortgage but not your current account then the current account part should stay open. It along with all it's details will tranfer to Barclays and you need to do nothing. However as in a previous post this is not always the case. I like you have little faith in the system after last Friday so unfortunatley it's a wait and see. I called Barclays who said that if there were any charges incurred they would pay. Not much comfort I know!!!0 -
I was so annoyed about this. I have never wanted to bank with Barclays, and loved Woolwich because though they weren't perfect, they were human, plus they had UK call centres which meant a lot to me.
I think I've had it easy compared to some of you here. My internet banking details arrived fine, though my telephone password hasn't arrived yet. Cards haven't arrived, and my account was switched on May 5th. I rang the call centre a couple of times and queued for ages, then they couldn't help. I wanted to view my April statement online, and guess what, Barclays only lets me see transactions from when they took on the account. I can't logo onto the Woolwich any more, so I'm stuck with paper statements for those months now.
At the start of May I did an application for a brand new account with first direct, and I already have cheque book, debit card, pin numbers, phone banking and internet banking details. So I'm moving everything across to there. Our mortgage is a Woolwich offset, which also got moved across, and customer service on that has been dire. So we've just done the paperwork to move that to first direct too. Barclays have not shown themselves to be competent enough to handle my money.
edited for typos.
