I currently have a Woolwich Card Saver which I think will change on July 22 and will be looking for a new account if Barclays do not keep the Visa Electron Facility.
I found the Woolwich Card Saver to be a great account, why do they have to muck up a perfectly decent product?!
To update:
I have had 2 measly letters from Barclays
1. Saying they are closing my branch (Harrow) - my account is based at Pinner their incompitence is soo funny, some random geographical postcode reader may say I live 0.2 miles closer to the Harrow branch but my account has never been based there!
2. Giving me a new account no and date of account transfer (22/07)
I took out £70 on the 20th ....... leaving £103 in my account.
Considering it is now the 27th and I have no new banking materials from Barclays I thought I'd try my Woolwich Card in the ATM ..... lo and behold it worked as normal! So I quickly withdrew my £100 ....... leaving a balance of £4.00 ........ will my new crappier Barclays ATM card ever come lol?!0 -

I am a bit twitchy about the whole exercise of the Woolwich to Barcalys fiasco. But after reading that some peoples direct debits & standing orders have not transferred across I have tried to view mine on the Barclays web page but cannot find any:eek: Can anyone tell me where I can view them? I think I foolishly put so much relliance in the Woolwich handling/listing of them I don't even have a record of what comes out when except for trawling through past statements.
I also have the Woolwich account used as a nominated account for my A&L savings account to transfer into & I have some pending payments coming into the account later this month. Should I wait & see if they are sucessful or try & shift them now?
Any advice appreciated, cheers Madcow
I am furious that as a previous online banker with Woolwich, Barclays have completely wiped out my banking online history. The Manager at the local branch (previously Woolwich) can access it but I am denied this. I have complained at the Branch, Complaints Dept and Head Office but there attitude is "You're with Barclays now" (Don't I know it). My online banking (and everybody else's online banking) only starts on 23rd July when Barclays took over.
I am voting with my feet and changing banks but also complaing to the Financial Ombudsman as they are treating me as an ex Woolwich customer differently from existing Barclays customers.
Anyone want to join me and complain to the Financial Ombudsman and then perhaps Barclays will reinstate our online banking history.0 -

I've e-mailed Watchdog, it's very easy on their website. Spoke to The Sun who are collecting names at the moment. The more that complain, the more likely they'll take the story. It's easy, just goto The Sun website and click on Got a story, phone the number, speak to them and they take your details. It's got to be worth a go, we have nothing to lose!!!!
Thanks for link to Watchdog. I have contacted them regarding my complaint with Woolwich/Barclays about online banking. As an online banking customer with Woolwich I am no longer able to access my online banking history prior to 23 July when the takeover took place. Complaints through their complaints system have got nowhere. Voting with my feet to another bank and complaining to the Financial Ombudsman. Anyone else care to join me?0 -

My OH is currently on the phone to Barclays and I fear the air is turning blue. Having tried the overseas call centre that basically said they couldn't help..and then just hung up on him twice, he finally got hold of the Coventry centre.
Girl there whilst trying to be helpful said she was the wrong department and gave another number where she said they would help...trouble is that it was the same number he had just called. She seemed surprised to find that she was in the 'help' centre!
It seems that only part of the linked accounts have come across from Woolwich, so we have some at Barclays and some at Woolwich still. No new cards yet, although the Woolwich ones were still working last week.

No, the Woolwich account I had(I think it was called card saver?) allowed me to have a Visa Electron debit card, but not Direct Debits
I take it the promises of a connect card being on its way to replace it were just more lies?
It's a good thing I opened a new account elsewhere...The money, Dave...0 -
Hi,
Just some quick facts that may help some of you:
Why your Visa Electron is being lost...
Savings accounts are for 'saving' and not everyday spending therefore a Visa Electron was a novelty of the Woolwich on a Savings account. I'm not sticking up for Barclays in any way however NO OTHER UK BANK other than what was the Woolwich offered a Visa Electron on a savings account and that is not the fault of Barclays. As I have mentioned - Savings are for saving and not everyday spending.
When can you expect to receive your cards.....
It can take up to 3 Weeks following the migration date for new cards and everything to come through. PIN's will remain the same as your old cards.
Direct Debits and Standing Orders,
These will all be transfered across - the only things that will need to be updated are things where companies store the card or account details, such as PayPal, a PAYG mobile or magazine subscription.
This information has come from a very useful leaflet picked up in a branch called "Your Guide to the Move" and a close Friend.0 -
I am underwhelmed with the service in my local branch, both with the length of the queues (often only one position open), the attitude of the staff, and the fact that paying-in slips are still used!
Indeed, what's that all about!!
I went into a branch to pay some cheques in. Sign up saying 'Welcome all Woolwich customers'. The cashier tells me I have to 'fill in a form' to pay in a cheque! How archaic is that? The Woolwich people just swiped your cheque through a reader on the computer.
'Better service than Woolwich', eh?0 -
hi exbarclay, you are incorrect about "NO OTHER UK BANK other than what was the Woolwich offered a Visa Electron on a savings account" the Co-op Bank for a long time offered a Visa Electron Card on their easy access savings account, and Natwest issue SOLO debit cards on their First Reserve savings accounts. There are other small banks and buidling societies that still do issue either card on saving accounts. Airdrie Saving Bank comes to mind. Some banks in this country and others also issued and issue Electron Cards as Credit Cards, so you could not go over your credit limit, Electron is not a debit card proudct, it is merely a 100% authorisations Visa card. James
Edit: The Co-op Smart Saver account does stil come with a Visa Electron Card, this is copied and pasted from the Terms and Condition for the account"cash card means any Electron card supplied by us to you from time to time to use with your account"p>0 -

So that makes it alright for Barclays to offer less services to account holders than they previously had?
How many Woolwich customers must Barclays have lost for ever thanks to their cack-handed change over? The money, Dave...0
