woolwich to barclays

  • from what i see the chain of events went like this.

Last year when they (barclays) sent the letters out ... we were re credit checked even though been with woolwich for 10 years.

If you have a current account then you get either

    1) Decent credit score, connect card with cheque grt.
    2) Less so, connect card with no cheque grt (really an electron is disguise).
    3) Bad , a cashcard.

I would be interested to know what other people have found, i think it is quite cheeky rechecking people, luckily we got the first, but its a bit cheeky.

My changeover was straight forward (open plan mortgage with the woolwich, complete with savings and current account). Got my chequebook a few weeks back, along with all internet and telephone banking details (all working fine). I received my Connect card (with Cheque guarantee) about a week back. My changeover was at the end of June. Don't know if Barclays did a credit check on me.

I can't understand why people can't see their mortgages on Barclays internet banking. I can see mine.
In a rut? Can't get out? Don't know why?
It's time to make that change.

I've just gone onto www.barclaysbank & used their e-mail service to register our troubles, along with '& we want an answer pronto pal -or else' type finish.

Perhaps if we all do it today they will be hit with a wall of IT all in one go tomorrow morning & realise how it feels to be swimming in treacle!

  • I've made a formal complaint over the issue that my mortgage payment leaves my offset-linked accounts for three days when the standing order is made. Charging me interest on that amount.

This is not acceptable. It did not happen with the Woolwich, has a detrimental affect on my finances negating a major feature of the OpenPlan product, and the interest BACS charges me almost certainly lands up back in Barclays pocket!

My complaint was met with a polite 'sorry, that's how it is' letter. I phoned up and said I was not happy with the response - it has been escalated to a 'level 2' complaint and apparently registered with the Ombudsman.

I am looking forward to my 'letter within 5 days'.

Wow-methinks I shall apply for a position with Bl88dy Barking! Had a reply to my e-mail 11:07 yesterday morning, so once again my Good Ship Cause-a-Stink has been scuttled before it left harbour! Damn it all, I was ready for a good fight too...

    question for you all.

those who get benifits / wages paid into you woolwich account on a regular basis. did the money still go in once you'd changed over without any problems? i was told i didn't need to give the benifits office my new barclays bank details as it would do it automically? so has anyone had any troubles?

i was in Poland trying to draw out cash when I realised my woolwich Electron card was no longer active, this was about 10 days before I recieved my Barclys Connect cards. Fortunately I had other funds available or I would have been stuffed, at no time was I told that my card would be cancelled.

Compared to many of the posts I have seen here, I have got off lightly.

I used to be with Barclays many years ago (30?) and was increasingly frustrated by their service, when the Woolwich began offering a Current Account with interest. I already had a mortgage and savings with the Woolwich, so it seemed a good idea to change.

When the Woolwich began offering Openplan, it was ideal for me as it had always been a juggling act to get the best out my savings while keeping just enough in the current account. I had no mortgage at this stage.

Since the changeover, I have had to manually change the DD details for Paypal and Ebay (I suppose they are not geared up to changing account details in response to a letter from the bank). The worst was my mobile phone was cut off as Vodafone had not updated my details; I'm not sure who was to blame here, but Vodafone customer service has a lot to be desired.

I am underwhelmed with the service in my local branch, both with the length of the queues (often only one position open), the attitude of the staff, and the fact that paying-in slips are still used!

I am hoping that it has all settled down now but I would like to move to a better arrangement before long. Are there any Banks / Building Societies offering a service more like the original Openplan that anyone could recommend?

    Hi,
Just stumbled across this thread. My Dad has been having a nightmare with the changeover too.He has mobility problems and has suffered a breakdown, so the woolwich instant saver account was perfect for him, as he had a electron card (his credit file is not very good becuase of the breakdown issues) However after the changeover he has been left with an ATM card only that he can only withdraw cash from a barclays machine, this is causing him untold problems. We went into branch, but he doesnt reach there criteria for a debit card, told him to reapply in 6 months. He tried to open a step account and after sending in all the paperwork was also refused that. Any help or advice would be very much appreciated. How do I complain to Barclays on line?

    Thanks

  • I have had mostly all the problems in this forum with regards to my Woolwich card suddenly not working, sh*t customer service from Woolwich & Barclays etc, except I'm yet to find out if my direct debits have been transferred... Just got back from holiday on Tues - imagine if my current account card had stopped working while on holiday!?

Anyway a woman at Barclays told me today that when I needed money (if my card wasn't working) I should "just pop in" to a Barclay's bank!? When I asked her what happens when I need money after hours... BLANK STARE. "Oh that's a very good question" she said, "I hadn't thought of that" D*MN that makes me mad!!!

I think EVERYBODY should complain bitterly to BBC Watch Dog about this, it's absolutely indescribibly short sighted and leaves me speechless at how Barclays didn't have the foresight to get cards and pins out to people weeks before the Woolwich cards were cancelled. And I'll be demanding compensation for this - then closing my account. I too closed an account with SH*T Barclays years ago only to be forced back with them now!!! I don't think so!

Morning All. Just wanted to tell you that I typed www.barclaysbank into the address bar & followed their links to an e-mail address for complaints. I've just checked my in box & can't find the actual address, but was very surprised when they replied to me on a Sunday!

The situation now is we are waiting for a letter to tell us what will be happening next; they say it has to be written to comply with some ruling or other.

As yet, I've had an automated response from Watchdog & nothing from the Sun, even though I've contacted them twice. So let's get that People Power working folks, & complain to all & sundry!
