I think the staff didn't (don't still?) know whether it applied or not with the replacement of packetpost by RM24 and RM48. The published literature doesn't mention a min spend, only a min volume requirement ie 1000 parcels per annum. The first time that I was quoted the £5k spend, I got the guy to speak to his manager, who then said, no that only applies to letter accounts and it's only the 1000 parcels that applies to parcel accounts. Now they seem to have backpedalled to a min spend amount. As I said, it doesn't affect me unduely - although maybe if they had applied it strictly in the first place, there wouldn't now be a month long waiting list to open accounts. :undecided
Half of the people on the phone have no idea what they are on about, they told me £1000pa spend the first time I called.
I have passed the credit check, have the licence and have the account in place, it's just that because I was already a user they have not set it up correctly.
As above, if I sent 1000 RM 24 packets, the spend will be 3k, it is impossible for them to give both the criteria of 1000 packets AND 5k spend.0 -

Yes, the price quoted is correct.
Send it by My Hermes, it'll be £5.40 with tracking and they collect it from your door - you do not evenh ave to wait in. You can drop it off at a local place (if you have one) for £5.10.0 -

By my reckoning
Myhermes £3.90 if taken to their shop or £4.20 if they collect from your house
Collectplus £3.99 if dropped off at their shop0 -
Thanks so much for the replies. I will take a look at the couriers mentioned, as it is a big saving

Beware - 3 days in to the new prices and my local Post Office was adamant that a cube-shaped parcel measuring just under 16 cm in all directions had to be classed as a medium parcel. Even showing them a copy of their own leaflet clearly indicating it was a small parcel didn't work - they were adamant they only had one template (the one with slots for small and large letters, plus the new small parcel) and as it didn't fit that, was a medium parcel. Complaint duly made to Royal Mail.0

!!!!! arghhh what the hell are RM playing at?????
Today, I see what the fuss is about, Ive just posted a slightly bulky packet today 1st class, an item on EBAY , and last week it would cost me £2.70 to SEND ,today it was working out at £5.65 if it couldnt be crushed down small enough to go through as a small so the ebay buyer will be getting a crushed up bashed to $%£ item by the girl at counter, who was trying her utmost to fit it through the stupid "measure device" so it went as a small packet
DISGRUNTLED FEMALE AT PO COUNTER she too thinks that royal mail are going to lose customers big time
I dont sell items on ebay often but if I do and it is a smallish item, then I will use collect plus now or an alternative or just use special delivery and it will cost less than a 2nd class packet!
WILL NOW TAKE MY CUSTOM ELSEWHERE !!0 -

I mentioned earlier about 6in cube boxes probably being just oversize for the 16cm cube small parcels rate as 6in is the internal size, and even then it's only approximate.
I therefore took a packed sample parcel to our village Post Office just now and our friendly postmaster just squeezed it through. However he warned that it might be rejected at the sorting office. That's not a chance we want to take!
Earlier we spoke to our box supplier and was told that they'd put their boxes through the RM gauge and they just fitted. However that presumably was without tape and labels. Tellingly though, they are going to bring out a slightly smaller box later in the year - once they've used up their current stocks!
We've therefore sourced a 15cm cube. Moreover this is the external measurement so there should be no problem. However for a pack of 120 it's 27p each + VAT rather than the 20p we pay for the 6in cube. I haven't named the supplier as I'm not sure it's within the rules?
Edit note: I'm told it is allowed to name the supplier so here's a link: http://www.boxbargain.co.uk/goods/goodsDetail.asp?cateCode=0010010000&pCode=079
If you can find a better price for a 15cm cube please post here or PM me. Thanks.0 -
