I opened an account with hermes last night and sent the item off today. They only wanted £6.55 (which includes the extras of compensation upto £100 and a signature). Hopefully it'll get there!
I guess I'll need to just basically give lots of small/cheap items away for a loss (free postage) if I want to try to keep my account.
I doubt i'll be able to do it, but we'll see.
I'm not overly bothered if I'm honest (although I'd obviously rather not lose it).
They should use a 'rep' system like how some forums operate.
At this point in time, I'd be slightly red, but If I sell an item to someone with a very good rep, who likes my service and gives me good/positive feedback(rep), I'd be back in the green without any selling limits.
Everyone seemed so happy with my service, but It just takes one person to trash my ratings, and i'm in trouble for the firts time ever (about 6 years I think since I opened the account>?)
As per the other thread, as you have no 1 or 2 * then it isn't one buyer who has trashed your stars- it is 'many' of them. However, in some cases that makes it easier to recover , although now you are on a restriction it may be difficult- but not impossible.
As for myHermes, I have been using them for a few things and they seem OK, a bit slow but I warn people on my auctions that if they choose courier instead of Royal mail then it may well be slower, so far all the people offered a choice have opted for MyHermes.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Yeah, hermes may be a bit slower, but the £25.00 quote given to me by the lady at the post office almost made me pass out! Couldn't afford to do that.
Out of interest, why would it be harder to recover using a restricted accout? (or even using a non-restricted account?)
I think the only restriction at the moment is being unable to take advantage of any free listing days?
If I sold 25 small items this month, all with free postage and a starting price of 99p (so free to list), wouldn't that put me back in good standing come the next evaluation?? (maybe i'm missing something obvious?)
thanks0 -

Once ebay notify you of a restriction 'formally' they often limit the number of things you can list. Since to recover your stars you need to dilute the stars left by previous buyers you need volume- with a limited account that can be an issue as of course not everythign wills ell that you list.
It really is worth reading the posts on the expanded seller dashboard that was linked on your other thread.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. But if I list 25 lipsticks worth around £3-5 for a starting price of 99p with free shipping, I imagine they'll all go?
I don't know if my account is actually limited or not. None of it seems very clear to me.

I'll take another look at the thread you mentioned soon, when I get some time. Had a 12hr shift at work in the bitter cold today!
cheers0 -
To be fair, the large letter gauge probably just *looked* smaller to me as it now has a small parcel gauge above it now which is a lot bigger. A lady in front of me had a large letter that *looked* slim enough to me but didn't fit the gauge so she had to pay small parcel price.
Can I ask, how do you get a gauge off RM? Do you have to have a business account? I may have to fashion one myself out of cardboard0 -

Maybe we can help better tomorrow, you need to recover after your shift first to get your brain round this.
OK, i thought on your other thread you showed no lows at all - but on this latest cut and paste you are showing 5, that is more worrying as it means 5 buyers rated you as poor or very poor. On my TRS account for instance i have no low stars in p and p and I have 1 on my private account.

I haven't been on ebay for a while now and have just came across the new Royal Mail prices today. I am looking tp post out a box, weighing 1.6 kg, which measures 31cm x 24cm x 23 cm. I used to post this via economy delivery at a cost of £5.30, but cannot see an economy option anymore. Is it really going to cost me £8 to send it 2nd class or am I missing something?
Thanks for any advice.Mortgage Free in 3-T2 : Started at £151,000 Nov. 2009 Mortgage Free Oct 1st 2015

I did think that but I can usually tell if something should go large letter and was surprised it wouldn't go through (I haven't got a gauge but using tape measure and past experience)0 -
hiya,
I am getting well confused with all this and I think the ladies down the post office are, I sell various things on ebay including a range of colouring/wordsearch/dot to dot books that my supplier have just got in, these are A4 size and 320 pages, anyway I looked on ebay and the majority of people were selling them at £2.99 with free 2nd class postage so I thought that sounds reasonable, I sold 5 yesterday, took them into post office tonight after work, checked them through the plastic gauge and they went through with no problem ( I thought)
when I got to the counter, the lady tried it through her gauge and though it went through easy enough, she said " it is scraping the sides you won't get away that, it will have to go 2nd class small parcel"
thanks...£2.60 each plus a G4 jiffy bag at 61 pence,plus ebay/paypal/stock costs, I made a lot of money on those deals......Not
I think my ebay business may need a total rethink, it has taken me 3 years to get things running smoothly and now thanks to royal mail, I feel like I am starting again:

1 Stop buying Jiffy bags for 61p, you should be shopping around and getting them for 10-20p.
2 Ship your books regular brown envelopes to comply with cheaper post.
3 Find something with a better margin, £3 books are never going to make you any money."Love you Dave Brooker! x"
