Custardy, I know you say that post offcies are aware of the small parcel exemptions but my mail centre is not.
The managers spoke to me again today and asked me if I had printed out the PDF that I gave them online as their stuff does not show the exemption. They have a gauge with the 8cms slot, and nothing else- not even a tape measure. They have done an hours mandatory training, but that was about the new plastic gauge and the 8cms rule.
Luckily they are happy to take my items and 'cancel' them with the post mark thingy but that doesn't help others who want to get a price.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Just read on another forum of someone being charged for a medium parcel because the PO is not aware of the cube exemption. The poster only realised when I linked to the exemption details on the RM website.0

Looking at the community boards the last couple of evenings there are a lot of people who don't know about the exemption. There was nearly a full page and a half moaning about the 8cms rule, before a regular logged in and mentioned the exemption.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Good luck - I have found them very helpful so far - although still no mailing sacks.
Feedback coming back on items in my first batch of parcels posted on Tuesday
Finally spoke to someone and got my application form completed.
Apparently, they are just processing applications from 23rd Mar (yes, really) so it will be 2-3 weeks before they can even email the T&Cs.
Also, they were again adamant about the £5k spending limit. Fortunately, I am only just below this so they "kindly" agreed to open me an account on the expectation that I will exceed £5k as my business is still growing.
I explained that I had already had this discussion (and that someone had had a boll*cking from their manager about it:whistle:) and quoted the 1000 parcels requirement, but they were adamant that you have to spend >£5k to get "a standard account" opened, and that if you THEN sent >1000 parcels, you could access RM24 and RM48. I said I knew of several people who have recently opened accounts, and was pretty certain that they were under the £5k spend and she said, well they will have their accounts taken away at their annual review... So just to warn anyone on here who falls into that category. (But at least you will have had 12 months worth of cheaper mail!)
Complete fail by Royal mail really. They should've decided on the requirements, and trained their staff consistently, BEFORE launching them! Still, well played any of you small sellers who managed to get an account. I think this is a classic case of "back-peddling" by Royal Mail as they have been overwhelmed by the demand. They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0 -

The £5k minimum spend requirement has always been in place but it was never 'policed' that much. I would imagine with the massive increase in requests for business accounts they are likely to become a lot stricter on that requirement.
I think the staff didn't (don't still?) know whether it applied or not with the replacement of packetpost by RM24 and RM48. The published literature doesn't mention a min spend, only a min volume requirement ie 1000 parcels per annum. The first time that I was quoted the £5k spend, I got the guy to speak to his manager, who then said, no that only applies to letter accounts and it's only the 1000 parcels that applies to parcel accounts. Now they seem to have backpedalled to a min spend amount. As I said, it doesn't affect me unduely - although maybe if they had applied it strictly in the first place, there wouldn't now be a month long waiting list to open accounts. :undecidedThey deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0 -
Shocking, fingers crossed it's not as long as you had to wait for your account to be opened in the first place.
Well, I just received an email from the woman I emailed yesterday and it includes my licence number.
RM should hold onto her, working from her holiday destination, as her auto-responder said she was away until April 16th. :rotfl:
Yet they said I had to wait to be deleted and then re-opened again.
I have absolutely no idea what is going on......0 -

Take care with letting them delete and then reopen if you are below the £5k spend threshold. They may decide not to reopen? They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0 -

I told them I did £2400 last year and they were happy to let me have the account on those figures. It's 1000 parcels sending. Even if I sent 1500 parcels it would would not cost £5k pa.0 -

I am looking tp post out a box, weighing 1.6 kg, which measures 31cm x 24cm x 23 cm. I used to post this via economy delivery at a cost of £5.30, but cannot see an economy option anymore. Is it really going to cost me £8 to send it 2nd class or am I missing something?
Thanks for any advice.
Can anyone answer this? I have came to the conclusion that it is going to cost me £8 to post. I am not a regular seller, so don't know that it's worth trying a courier.Mortgage Free in 3-T2 : Started at £151,000 Nov. 2009 Mortgage Free Oct 1st 2015
