Got caught out today - parcel was too tight to fit in slot and price doubled.

Took it back and sent via myhermes. Worried about feedback , but wasn't prepared to waste almost £4.

Buyer should have paid on time

It's 1000 items. I have just opened one on the basis that I posted around 2000 parcels/large letters in the last year...

So, how long did it take to get your account open and when did you apply?

I applied via email to New Business Manager I'd been speaking to on March 21st and my account is still not open.

While I appreciate they're busy, surely someone should have foreseen that small businesses would need business accounts (rather than pay £5.20 for something that used to cost £2.20). Well actually some did, which is why they've dropped the limits down to 1000 parcels. However, they've not given themselves or sellers enough time to make plans. I figure my account would be open had I not asked a lot of questions - I'm the cautious type. That and only getting a part time New Business Manager I just wish they'd be more helpful in advising when the account will be open, I don't know if it will be today, tomorrow or the end of next week.

I used the post office to post a drill a few months ago. Tracked. It cost me about £12.
This morning, they want to charge me £25.00!

I'm looking to use myhermes instead, although, I'm thinking of quitting Ebay altogether. It's becoming impossible to turn a profit and i'm not sure it's worth the stress.

I appear to have somehow dropped below the minimum seller standard, and got a message from Ebay about further account limitations where they advise me to offer free postage.

From what I gather, messages like the one I received are often followed by a ban, so maybe they'll make the decision for me soon! lol.

I'm sort of surprised. Without bragging, I'd consider myself a pretty good seller. 100% positive feedback with over 400 stars. I always post the item the next day (and sometimes the same day!) after receiving payment.

Lots of my items are fairly expensive, and they've made a fair bit of money from me.

I'll watch this space. Such a shame there's not more alternatives that get as much traffic as Ebay.

That seems a big jump, have you checked it out, maybe as has been suggested look at a courier as well. Postage shouldn't be taking any of us by surprise, we have been discussing it (and worrying about it now) for a month on here.

I know you have had issues with buyers not liking your postage so as was suggested in your other thread you need to be keeping a better eye on costs and not guessing, overcharging will kill your account but undercharging will hit your pocket.

If you are content to lose your account the please remember that will be it for ever, you can't open another one later as once connected that will be banned too.it will also affect anyone considered connected to you, and their accounts will go to. Now you have a restriction it is going to be hard to turn round, it is almost too late, but it can be done and if you post on your original thread I'm sure we can offer suggestions

I applied on 8th March and mine is still not open.

This morning I had some parcels to send but as the account is not up and running I have broken them down and have had to send 2 x large letter sizes to everyone instead of 1 parcel. 2 x £1.20 vs 1 x £3. Crazy or what!!

I've been lucky (so far) that I've not had made a loss on any order, but it looks like I'm going to have a long wait!

Some guidance from RM would be nice on the timescale, just so you can work out if it's worth the effort to change prices/remove products/delay sending orders (currently only selling on own website, so all are valid options).

Last year there were situations when it was cheaper to send more parcels if it was cheaper (e.g. Two items weighing 550g each would go Standard parcels at £5.30, but separately £2.20 each). While it's a bit daft, I added a line to my Terms of Sale to indicate that orders may be broken down into smaller packages, if it was cheaper, so long as the service provided was at least as fast (2nd class being faster than SP).

I first phoned around 10th March and had everything ready in about 2 weeks. Except for mailing sacks which I am having to fetch from the local sorting office.
I still struggle to see how I can split my small amount of orders (9 this morning) into different sacks, one for international, one for 24, one for 48 and then by size! The sacks are HUGE!
Still working on it although I did manage get an order out yesterday...
  • ok , I have an item which is 22 x 14 x 15cm and weighs 220 grams .

how much would that cost me to send 2nd class inland UK ?

Got charged almost double yesterday with Royal Mail. £5.60 instead of the expected less than £3 for a 5 inch teddy bear.

My own fault as although I knew prices were going up I didn't bother to check as I didn't expect them to be going up THAT much!

Double check the postage before you put your auctions on now, although I'm not sure eBay is worth doing now. However WH Smiths had a leaflet for DHL so may look at them instead.

Did you opt for collections too?

Why do they need sorting by size? I thought there was no restriction on RM24/48 only on packages paid for at the post office.
