had to smile was in the post office at lunch posting a large letter

at the counter next to me was a lady posting a shoebox that looked to be approx 9cm thick, counter staff proudly demonstrated with their new template hole in the wall gauge thing it was medium parcel & told them it was >£5 second class as it was new pricing

customer looked rather galled & muttered it was only £2 something last week

    first of many i imagine

I don't think it is much to smile about tbh, people already have little money and now they have to pay more. If the price of food doubled overnight people would be up in arms, and rightly so. Would you be smiling then?

There should have been more publicity to make people aware of the changes, I have told as many people as possible but what else can you do?

went into the post office today , massive queue of course , first he tries overcharging me for a large letter (actually they've done that loads of times ) then I ask them for the new price guide , they give some booklet without any new prices in it , and they tell me thats all they've been sent , if I want to know about price changes I should ring Royal Mail .

what sort of crappy service is this ?

they told me that only the small packet prices have changed , is this true ?

    virgil, not entirely true

    airmail prices have changed

packets have been replaced by parcels (small & medium size ones)

compensation limits have changed for uk stuff

probably more things as well that more knowledgeable posters will add

mrs_sparrow - as an ebay seller believe me I'm not smiling about the price increases, my post was more an acknowledgement that perhaps royal mail could have done more to communicate the price changes, the same point you are making

albeit presumably royal mail is keener on publicising the basic stamp price hasn't gone up rather than all the things that have changed

£5.60 to send my 1114g parcel via 2nd class, or £3.99 (in jiffy bag) via collectplus tracked and £50 compo. Guess which service I am going to be using from now on. Looks like small parcels under 1kg will still be cheaper going via Royal Mail.

Does anybody know where you can get those cardboard size guides from, is it possible to order them from Royal Mails website? My local post office didn't have any, and can't see any info online for them. Thanks.

myhermes prices are generally in similar territory to collectplus so worth considering depending how convenient the drop off point is

myhermes also offers a service for under 1kg parcels which could be cheaper than royal mail if your parcel is MEDIUM rather than SMALL size

They tried to charge me £6.30  for a parcel 40x25x6 2nd class recorded, kept repeating 16x16x16 rule, till I showed her the print off from RM with 45x35x8 up to 2kg and even brought my ruler out too.
She was very apologetic and said my £3.70 was right :D

The person behind me was a friend of the person in front and overhead my conversation and called back her friend loudly telling everyone she'd been overcharged and to get her money back.

The staff should have had much better training, did feel sorry for them.

As an occasional seller don't think there are other options for me :(
