Seriously, just go and look at tea pots, the first one up on Best Match is here:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fine-bone-china-teapot-and-cup-/171014282002?pt=UK_PotteryPorcelain_Glass_PotteryPorcelain_China_SM&hash=item27d13edb12

£3.99 1st class recorded. There is no way that is less than 16cms in all directions, so seller is looking at £6.75

and this one, unfortunately for charity, £3.75 1st class

    I've found repackaging a 'medium' 2.5kg parcel as 3x less than 1kg 'small' parcels cost (3x£2.60) £7.80 2nd class or (3x£3) £9 1st class.

Am I missing a cheaper option for a single package?

Can somebody please explain the small parcel guidelines for dummies? I don't understand how they give a size limit incl the 8cm depth then say its ok to be 16x16x16 cm? Am I missing something or should they have just set the limit at 16x16x16?

What if I had a parcel 500g that measure 14x14x12, would this be a small parcel?

Sorry if I am being thick and missing something, thanks in advance for help!

Sorry just had a lightbulb moment, the exception is only for cube shaped parcels, Is that right?

    Yes

I don't understand why RM had to word it so clumsily, why couldn't they just have said there are 2 definitions of a small parcel: 45x35x8 OR 16x16x16

Doesn't have to be cube, 16x16x9 will still be a small parcel but not a cube

But 17x16x9 will have to go medium

Sort of, any box will do as long as no side exceeds the 16cms , there is also an exemption for a tube.

It's in the very small print at the bottom of page 2 on the PDF

Only a courier, someone like myHermes would be £5.10 for that if dropped of at the shop.

OK, hands up! I'm a once a year spring clear out seller and got caught out :o

Of course I will swallow the increased charges on completed listings posted today and others that have bids on them.

Can I change listings with watchers but no bids to reflect the new prices? I could put an edit note on the listing to say that I have done so.

If there's longer than 12 hours of the auction to run you can change it.

I know RM's communication has been poor but so has Ebay's. It wouldn't be too difficult to add a pop up on postage when listing items for sale directing them to changes.

I'd have thought some sellers of bulky books on Amazon could get stung a bit too.

If they don't have any bidders then yes, you can change the price.
It's up to you if you want to put a note - maybe something like "P&P costs reflect the recent Royal Mail price increases".
But you're not required to justify the charge.
