I'm amazed at how often I see people buying jiffy or mailer bags in the post office and doing their packing right there and then. The 8cm depth ruling is certainly going to catch a lot of people out.
It's amazing how many people turn up at the Post Office without items packed or addressed, they haven't a clue what the charges will be.
It's probably how they get away with price rises without too much fuss, most people assume the post office will be the cheapest and most secure..0 -
list it as a vintage china jigsaw
You jest custardy- you jest...but I found myself even trying some of the things packed diagonally across the box until my OH told me I was being daft as I just made it more likely that delicate items would be snapped due to pressure if something heavy was laoded on top.
Mind you I just noticed a private seller who has listed a heavy china tea pot as £3 1st class, not one single bit of that apart from the lid is less than 6 inches.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. In a few minutes recently I witnessed someone buying an empty special delivery envelope and guessing the weight for what she was going to put in it and someone buying a stamp for the contents she didn't yet have an envelope for.

many years ago I used to use the Crown PO daily and they had to move their packaging supplies sold by the shop as people thought it was free. As they queued up for the PO counter they would choose the envelope they wanted, address it and get very cross when they were told they had to go to the shop part and pay for it.
I also once saw a lady throw a tantrum as she had some items and expected the Post Office to wrap them and address them for her..apparently this country had a rubbish post office if she was expected to do all that herself- she was 'that' close to throwing her self on the floor and having a tantrum like a toddler.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I really dont know what RM are playing at(if you accept the people in charge arent simply looking to shut it down)
to those that recall. when RM went price in proportion with letters, they sent a leaflet to every door in the UK with a paper size guide
to me this warrants at least the same0 -

I finally got a leaflet from the PO yesterday explaining the charges, sadly I wont be listing alot of the stuff I wanted to this weekend on ebay as the size of the parcel means it will be £5.20 postage - I dont think I would pay that for postage of a gillet!
Wouldnt mind but it only weighs 525g its over the 8cm depth though. Should have listed last week!Mum, wife and dinnerlady!0 -

Consider using myHermes, what you describe above is currently £3 via them. I would suggest dropping off parcels at your local parcelshop if you have one. See myhermes.co.uk if your not already aware of them.0 -
MyHermes makes Yodel look like the world's greatest courier, they are cheap for a very good reason, they are rubbish.0

So far myHermes has worked out ok for me, more importantly for my customers, no complaints received, l admit it is early days of me using them. Fingers crossed l won't be posting anytime soon about how bad they are.0
