they work on a self employed basis which is good for myhermes
I was surprised to see a private car pull-up outside my house today and chap got out with my Amazon Prime delivery.0 -

Buyers and sellers want cheaper and cheaper delivery that will only lead to more and more problems.
As the supermarkets struggle to make a delivery network worthwhile it may not be long before we see Tesco Parcels or something similar..0 -

eBay have announced they will be looking at postage caps due to new RM costs.
They are also looking at discounted courier services:

If you are a powerseller then there;s this one:
http://community.ebay.co.uk/topic/Powerseller-Board/Selfish-Rm-Price/18000489803
otherwise there are anumber of threads on the general seller boards, you sometimes have to read them to see where the discussion is going as they start of for private sellers and then go into business accounts (or vice versa).
A general read though is probably best as it might be an idea to actually ask for help , especially on the PS board.
ooh there are some nice sellers there, who really don't like smaller sellers aren't there?!
Luckily i have worked my head around these changes and although i will be loosing a small amount of profit i still make enough to keep it going.0 -
Good on you. I think we may see now a proliferation of couriers and a really healthy market develop.Warning: any unnecessary disclaimers appearing under my posts do not bear any connection with reality, either intended, accidental or otherwise. Your statutory rights are not affected.0

what was stopping it before?0 -
Nothing to add apart from thanks to the OP, I'm a private seller that only lists sporadically. I didn't realise that prices were going up & could have been clobbered on my first visit to the PO after April for any medium (formerly small) packages I had!0

They go up every year(or at least some do or change)
its usually plastered all over the internet & some journos will jump over it0 -
They do go up every year, but usually not so steeply, and usually without introducing new dimension bands which are likely to catch occasional users out and kill numerous small businesses. I'm looking through my stock for items over 8cm thick but not particularly heavy, many of which are low value items which will be unsaleable after the price increases. I don't have a Myhermes posting point in my area.
I don't even see how Royal Mail will profit from this: they are pricing themselves out of the parcel delivery market in areas well served by other couriers, so they'll end up with a far higher proportion of their parcels going to and from remote locations.
The only eBay sellers likely to profit significantly from these changes are those selling boxes which fit within the new dimension limits.0
