macfly, Royal Mail did make an operating profit of £211 million last year and that's with the universal service you describe.

Yeah, but which bits are profitable?

    Thanks Soo.
Does anyone know how it affects sellers with a PPI Packetpost account?
I know i can be stupid, but on all the pages from RM that have anything to do with business accounts i cannot find any mention of the 'new' small/medium parcels 'thingy'.
Will OBA holders not have to worry about these new size restrictions?

With apologies I fear I may confuse you more. Looking at the various threads (and they are all over the place) it seems that some RM accounts will not have to size their packages at all. I don't really understand it at all but it seems all the accounts will have different requirements , and no one can quite work out what affects what.

Apparently some people have tried phoning their business managers, but they haven't quite got their heads round it either. There's also some confusion about VAT and not VAT registered users, but my brain gave up at that point.

The general consensus is though that business account holders will show very little increase in their costs and will be able to considerably undercut smaller sellers.

the only thing Im wondering is if this is preparation (in a typical RM way) to creating a more simplified packet system such as Tracked for all
so you end up with small/medium & large under 3 prices?

Good point, it is something that you see rumours of occasionally.

probably not as this would create a simple set up that nearly all would understand, whilst offering a better service at the same time.

I thought the long term plan/strategy was to have separate services that could be sold off into separate businesses. So letters, small packets, larger packets and Parcelforce or combinations thereof.

    yup but lets be honest
it will be some b@stardised version where some will be private and others(such as delivery) will be some PPI type monstrosity with UK Gov footing some good awful bill
if you have staff going to the door with letters,it really makes sense to at least send the small packets with the same person
eg with smal tracked that can go through a letterbox, its not really efficient to have a van driver going to the same door

Sorry, didn't see that earlier. I don't, ParcelForce collect. :D

You put them all together into a sack (max 20kg) or box (max 30kg) and stick a packets collection label on (£3.45) then ParcelForce collect.
